SwitchEasy's ThumbTacks are the cutest iPod mics you ever did see
SwitchEasy's ThumbTacks are far from being the first third-party microphones designed to function nicely with Apple's iPod nano 4G and second-generation iPod touch, but we'll be darned if they aren't the cutest. Clearly designed to mimic the iconic thumb tack, these itty-bitty microphones function with all third-party voice applications and can be selected in black, white or red. Not too shabby for $15.99 shipped, wouldn't you say?

All third party...AND FIRST PARTY! iPhone OS 3.0!
Hmm, I never know that the headphone jack was at the top of the iPod Touch, I always thought it was on the top like the iPhone
Huh?
"Hmm, I never know that the headphone jack was at the top of the iPod Touch, I always thought it was on the top like the iPhone"
Should have said...
... at the bottom of the iPod Touch...
Wow, terrible post on my part! 'know' = 'knew' and 'top' = 'bottom'
That's what I get for trying to sneak a comment in while at work.
I want one!
I want one that goes into the USB port so you can use the iPod touch as a VoIP phone. I guess you can use the speaker with the mic (ie no headphones), though that would probably very annoying for the person on the other end.
What do they think we are, little girls? Seriously, I'd get beat up runnin' around school with a pushpin sticking out of my iPod and with me talking in it.
In my school, you'd get beat up just for having an ipod alone.
At my school, you get beat up for talking about getting beat up.
i beat up a kid today who was talking to his ipod...
serves him right
i beat up a kid who put an apple sticker on his HP Pavillion dv 6000. be proud mofo. serves him right.
Yeah, I remember last week, I was kicking this guy’s butt real good. And he leans over and says, "Hey, you know, life’s like a bucket of wood shavings. Except for when the shavings are in a pail, then it’s like a pail of wood shavings!"
nice but i cant use headphones at the same time? not worth 16 bucks...
15.99 for a condenser mic with a plug? both are $0.05 parts and another $0.20 in manufacturing. That don't look like 15.99 worth of device... Looks like a garbage mic that you pick up as a bin of 100 for 20 bucks, because nobody else wanted them...
wow, thats TACKy
pun, you win
You win!!!
what no pink?
ain't paying that much to have a nipple implanted on the ipod.
I would pay way more
I can't see it being better than the built-in mic.
But it could be better than something nonexistent.
I didnt think the ipod had a built in mic.
WOW...they really missed the boat on the best name ever
"ThumbTracks"
How cute. An mp3 player without a built-in mic.
how cute, it does what it's supposed to.. PLAY MP3S..
if you want a news reporter gadget get a sony recorder..
I would agree, but other players have built-in mics for much cheaper than the iPod. While I agree mp3 players' main purpose is for music playback, almost all players out now have a mic. It's time for Apple to catch up.
Instead of these stupid aftermarket mics for iPods, how about if Apple rubs a couple of brain cells together and integrates a mic?
yea, right, cause apple really wants to recall all the ipod touches just to install mics.
Who said anything about recalling?
Anyway, like apple want to take buyers away from the iPhone
@Mick
Recalling has nothing to do with it. I'm not sure what even made you think of that based on what I said.
The point is that it's stupid that we even have to add aftermarket mics to iPods in the first place. Hopefully, Apple will get it together for the next round of iPods and integrate a mic which would be a useful component.
(And adding a mic to the iPod isn't going to sway anyone away from an iPhone. Those are two different animals).
ipod touch clearly greatest ,revolutionary pmp of all times!!!!!!! it will be years before something can dethrone it. only thing missing is ability to make calls, thats where iphone comes in.
One of those "I wish I'd thought of that" things.
Not that you HAVE to, but here's the link as to how to get an avatar picture set on engadget:

Since I notice some articles with me being the only one with one and I like to blend in and not stand out so much.
dude, these mics are SO far from cute...
I would hate to break that off in my ipod
thats an iWant right there. Just becuase. Thats it, Just because. I'm in a consumer kind of mood and that is just really clever and good design even if it seems completely out of place.
Cool
genius product design
anyone knows what brand is the Iphone case in the 2nd picture?
cool
They are cute, but too big and bulky for the slim iphone/ipod. Looks like a wart gone out of control.
if i understand well the OS3 improvementes, than you could have BT headset even for iPods (not nanos) - so in June, you could just simply use any bt headset without connecting any such device, doesn't matter how cute
with the 3.0 wont touch users be able to use a bluetooth headset to talk and hear for voip calls and other recording apps?
