I've tried the IE8 beta already, and to say the least I didn't like it. I got rid of it and reverted to IE7; I guess that I will keep it for some time before trying out IE8 again.
I think the current IE codebase (Trident?) is done. If MS wants to compete in the browser wars again, they should do a reset for IE9/10.
What, owning a 60+ % marketshare of the browser market isn't enough to "compete"?

I tried to install it on Vista Ultimate and it keeps giving me an error at the end of the install, although it works great on my XP machine, meh..... go figure.
