Portland customers to get bundled WiMAX courtesy of Comcast

Portland, Oregon was the first place to get a taste of Clearwire's own WiMAX service, so it's not exactly all that surprising that it's also going to be the first to get Comcast's version of the very same high-speed wireless service. Of course, this being Comcast, you can also expect to see the WiMAX service offered in bundles with its TV, phone, and broadband services when it launches "midyear," although there's no indication of pricing just yet (Clearwire charges between $20 and $50 a month). As The Oregonian points out, this is also a pretty clear indication that Comcast will be following Clearwire's lead as it expands into additional markets, and it's apparently even pushing Clearwire to deploy its service as quickly as possible, with Comcast COO Stephen Burke saying, "we didn't invest in Clearwire to make money on the stock. We invested in Clearwire to roll out a product that our customers want."

I've personally had good experiences with Comcast... it's just really expensive.
I guess you get what you pay for. :/

I was hearing about this a few days ago from my grandpa, who works at Comcast. I've been wanting Clear for a while, so it was nice to know that I will be getting wireless internet way before tethering comes to the iPhone.
Lonin @ Mar 20th 2009 12:08AM
Interesting, wonder if it will reach a bit farther north than Clear's service, I'm about 5 miles out of range for that. Also wonder what the price would be if I already have cable and TV.
Lancelot @ Mar 20th 2009 12:47AM
I'm getting Clearwire the moment it's available in the Tampabay area. Where else can you get broadband wireless service for your pc network & mobile wireless for your notebook for $50.00 per month. The test speeds results I've seen are very acceptable.
WiMAXian @ Mar 20th 2009 1:08AM
It has been said by John Storch, the vice president of network deployment at Clearwire, that the biggest factors influence where Clearwire target for next WiMAX rollouts is Clearwire’s investor group,Comcast, Time Warner, Google, and Intel.

FUCK Comcast, go At&t.
ashstoashs @ Mar 20th 2009 5:20AM
Comcast bought out At&t internet service here in Portland...
Amun @ Mar 20th 2009 6:10PM
I haven't had a great time with comcast... I just know they'll find a way to try and charge people $79.99 /mo for wimax. >_>
Jason @ Mar 20th 2009 5:38AM
I wonder if they will call it the "fourplay". The marketing opportunities are hilarious.
Eddy120876 @ Mar 20th 2009 7:56AM
@Hex
".and monitored by the RIAA/MPAA via Comcast." yes and you also forgot that they want to enforce anything else they could think of if it suits their needs...LOL also the thettering with the iphone is already available if you have a jailbroken one..or upgrade to the dev kit for 3.0 (but you need to talk to some people that already are using it) also Fios has been encountering some stiff opposition from the cable Gianst and the politicians that are taking money from then. (you can also add building landlords that receive money under the table from cable comps)

"Portland customers to get bundled WiMAX courtesy of Comcast"
Well, SOME Portland customers, anyway. I live in Portland and Clearwire's WiMax service isn't available wqhere I live; hence, Comcast's service won't be available to me either.
