Autonet Mobile bringing WiFi to Cadillac CTS sports sedan
Autonet Mobile just notched another one in its belt by scoring a deal to hook GM's Cadillac CTS up with integrated WiFi. Starting this April, folks who splurge on one of these sports sedans will be treated to WiFi (a $499 dealer-installed option) in the car, and best of all, it uses a new, smaller router than can be easily transferred to another vehicle that's equipped with an identical dock. The agreement is a first for Caddy and also the first luxury brand that Autonet Mobile has managed to invade. 'Tis a shame that monthly subscription still starts at $29 -- we get the feeling that even the affluent won't much care for that.

$30/month is for for a whopping 1GB.
The standard $60/month for 5GB.
I hate caps as much as the next person but you are talking about internet for your car...1gb is going to be enough for the overwhelming majority of people who sign up for this...
IMHO, it's another thing they put in the car that people wont pay for, like onstar
Why wouldn't someone pay for Onstar? I have had 3 Cadillacs with Onstar and I pay the subscription fee because it is amazing. Specially with the CTS and it's Keylesss-Go it is easy to misplace the remote. Anyway, it has a huge amount of benefits if you look into it....
Yup, BMW started including BMW Assist for 3 years (I think), because nobody was renewing the membership after the free 1 year trial.
another thing for car companies to waste money on and then expect a handout from the government to bail them out...
Why even bother with this, when there's 3G and WiMAX?
Autonet AKA Skynet!!! arrrrrhhhhh ol
yeah, but think of all the applications for internet in the car ... from telematics to just consumer geo-targeted apps .... I think it's a pretty big platform.
..............wha?...
Oh! You should have said so! $500 + $30 or $60 per month! For what? For having a "status". Get over it, walking money bags. Children in africa are starving, start sending $500 + $30 or $60 per month to them, might actually be useful.
I dont know the network behind this, but I have wireless hotspots for a long time.
1. Get a data account/card from Sprint or others.
2. Get a Cradlepoint portable router. It is a complete full featured router that takes a data card as the internet connection.
Plug in to car, or get an 8 hour battery and take it to the field in your bacpack. .
The Cradlepoint ctr-500 is very cool technology. It is used by many who need remote hotspots for many users, at a convention, contruction site or just a picnic. Best of all it has auto failover from dsl to the card. Use it at home/office for high availability situations.
Costs much less besides. and on your normal 3G account.
This Autonet product is the same I'm sure, but targeted at the non-tech mass (affluent) market.
NOTE: If you already have a data card for your laptop, reading email at 80MPH is dangerous.
