Cyberpower Gamer Dragon 9500 desktop gets reviewed
It's not the first Dragon-based gaming rig out there but, according to ComputerShopper, Cyberpower's new Gamer Dragon 9500 may just be one of the best bargains around, with it even able to do double duty as a media PC if you're looking to keep your number of boxes to a minimum. That latter attribute comes larger from its addition of a Blu-ray drive, but the system expectedly really delivers the goods when it comes to gaming, with the ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics (with 2GB of DDR5 memory) helping to pump out some respectable frame rates at even ridiculous resolutions. The $1,499 base price will also get you a generous 1TB hard drive, 4GB of RAM and, of course, the 3.6GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940 processor at the heart of the rig. Hit up the link below for the full rundown, and a few benchmark numbers.

Hmm, for the price and other specs you'd think they'd be featuring an Intel processor.
Like a Core i7 (its future-proof, you'll just change CPU in a year or two, won't have to change motherboard and ram).
Tomshardware made a 4850x2 for $1250 (but you have to build it yourself, which is oh so hard, and for $1500 you can get 4870x2 and a better CPU cooling as well).
But basically its a nice trend that pre-built PC prices are going down.
Did you seriously just name an Intel product and use the term 'Future-proof' in the same sentence?
@ Leindurstit: What you would have used AMD???
@ZenStyleJunglist
What, you wouldn't have?
Note: I love this game where you ask a question to try to make someone look dumb without even having to provide any actual information or a counterpoint.
What, you didn't know that's what everyone does in the comments?
Wait, you're still reading this?
Are you seriously reading Engadget comments? Really? Wow.
See how that goes? It just never ends.
Does it breath fire?
That feature is only enabled once you attach a Acer logo sticker to its body.
Yes, it breath fire.
It's too bad this isn't a laptop... Oh wait, build quality for Cyber Power PC laptops blows...
You want your laptop burn a hole on your lap?
I don't.
Thank God its not a laptop...
I'm waiting for a decent laptop with 4gb 1066Mhz DDR3 a 1900x1200 display and a 4860 or 4870 with GDDR5 in a lappy... Companies seem to be incapable of putting all of these parts into a laptop at once...
The Asus W90 has two 4870s
Holy crap Josiah! I just wanted to say....Stop stealing my name! Seriously, my name is Josiah as well...)
Queue up all the usual "I could build that for $2.27 with parts from newegg and OC it to 24 gigawatts using my custom liquid nitrolium rig" comments.
Just a guess... you use Apple?
No, he uses sarcasm.
I don't blame him for making such a comment. A lot of arrogant douches have been making such claims recently. They seem to forget that there is an opportunity cost for the time it takes to select parts, assemble the machine, overclock it, and test for stability. A lot of people have neither the skills nor the time for that, and would rather just plunk down 10-15% more money for a pre-assembled rig.
Exactly. But since I know from personal experiences of fixing other people's (brands and companies shall not be named to protect the occasional good job) computers, their "testing" is load of shit and chips.
But you are completely, right. I mean who has a two hours to spend buiding a computer, installing an OS or two, testing, etc. to play HOURS of games on it.
If you are buying a "custom" build GAMING RIG, then you are lazy, should be a console gamer, or really like wasting money on brand names.
The only DDR5 on Wikipedia is the Fifth mix of Dance Dance Revolution, which is supposed to be one hell of a work out...therefore I call vapor ware.
referring to Wikipedia as some sort of authority on the latest in ... well, anything... doesn't help your cause much.
That's because you looked up "DDR5", not "GDDR5"... Here you go!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GDDR5
:D
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GDDR5
This is what they're referring to when they say DDR5 in a graphics card.
damn haha beat me to it :)
So how do you open the CD drive?
The cover opens
For an extra $500, you can get a Blu ray drive that opens remotely.....with magic. Unfortunately, you have to buy magic seperately because it not including in the packaging. See store for details as other limitations may apply.
They overclocked the processor lol!
"... ridiculous resolutions..."
Is there such a thing? Can a resolution be ridiculous? I'm running a WQXGA display and it feels quite sensible. Took some time, but it does. Everything else is just small....
What I wanted to know is how well does it plays Crysis?
I think that "gaming" and "hard core" rigs should have a different design, they are the same standing brick design with stuff tacked on. Where are the cool shapes? I've see modders do pyramids, starwars ships, castles, etc. These rigs are meant to show off, they should be wild.
Yes, it breathes fire...why?! read here: http://www.theblogismine.com
