mophie launches $99.95 Juice Pack for iPod touch 2G
Dropping a Benjamin on mophie's iPhone 3G Juice Pack didn't seem too painful considering the alternative of possessing a brick after about four hours of 3G usage, but we get the feeling iPod touch 2G users are going to have a slightly more difficult time rationalizing this one. Launched today for $99.95, the Juice Pack for iPod touch 2G was specially crafted to hold Apple's latest touch, and it promises to practically double the amount of jam time by including a rechargeable Li-ion. The case / battery extender also sports a pass-through USB cable design, and the four light LED status indicator gives you visual cues on battery level. Specifically, mophie claims that this device adds up to 42 hours of audio playback or 7 hours of video playback, and if you've already decided to become an early adopter, you can head on over and get one shipped out today. Full release is past the break.

Juicy.
I would say its a bad idea if we didn't buy bottled water that's more expensive than gas.
Anyone own one of these for the iphone? How troublesome is it compared to not using it?
nothing like adding a fat appendage to a sleek phone that doesn't come with a user-replaceable battery like all normal phones do.
can you read?
Not a phone.
please look up "appendage", guys. Then re-read what I wrote.
Thanks, Management.
hum dude, you really can't read so ...
NOT A PHONE
and there is nothing obscure about the word appendage.
Owned
This would be awesome if it included a microphone.
Hell Yeah!
and a speaker!
Kinda sad considering that the Cowon S9 gets 55 hours of audio playback or 10 hours of video playback without a bulky juice box attached to its back side.
Yeah, too bad the Cowan S9 is fugly and doesn't even have WiFi.
yes, even more upsetting that you are finding PMP's "sexy" and "fugly".. I'll never understand... are you hoping to be sexually attracted to your device or are you hoping that others will think you are more sexually appealing because of your non-"fugly" device?
I won't even bother responding to your charge of ugliness. And why does it always come down to WiFi with you Apple fanboys? Oh that's right, because the iPod Touch gets the battery life of a two-generation-old device, and nothing can touch the audio quality of a Cowon, least of all an iPod Touch. Did I mention the S9 has an AMOLED touchscreen? And despite that it's competitively priced.
I forgot to mention, you do realize you're comparing the S9 to an iPod Touch with a chubby Juice Pack attached, right? And which one is "fugly"?
Oops, I guess I responded. Oh well.
@ steve.
aposexual nerd.
try having an intercourse with ur ipod, if u find it so sexy.
To each his own I guess. You enjoy your welfare PMP. Oh, by the way how many apps does Cowan have in it's app store?
I'm with Steve.
Since when did applications matter to a PMP? I'd rather get an OLED screen, better sound quality and extra battery life than the ability to install fart apps...
Battery tech really needs to step it up now. Everything else has advanced by leaps and bounds yet batteries have pretty much stagnated.
I'll take the hit on battery life any day for a slim and sleek device, When I'm at home, at work or in the car I'm able to top up the battery so 30 hours of walking around outside time is way more than enough.
@ sffffeve
its. cowon.
the main job of a PMP is to play good quality music (and cowon is miles ahead of ipod in terms of audio quality.)
and what use are apps which make ur ipod fart (when u can do it better urself). 90% of the apps are useless anyway.
10% of 20,000 is 2000. So 2,000 useful apps. That's pretty amazing.
@ steve
i meant 99.999%
lol. I thought you'd regret saying 90%. Give it up dude, the S9 isn't even in the same class as the iPod touch.
atlast,
u agreed.
The S9 is waaay better.
Ah, I see what you did there.
Well, it sounds like you've found what you're happy with, K2. Now allow the rest of us who want more (AppStore, e-mail, WiFi, web-browsing) out of the little devices we carry to do the same.
It doesn't matter you can only have 144 apps installed at a time anyway. In typical apple fashion there is no notice, it seems to download the extra app, then nothing happens even though there is room in the UI for more pages dots.
That being said, this product seems cool as now I can play GALCON for 20 straight hours on the toilet.
whats a cowan?? that some sort of "other" player... ah the peeps without iphones/touch, always taking pot shots when deep down they wish they had bought the apple one instead...
This is what I mean, Apple.
People are going to add many inches of bulk to their iPods and iPhones ANYWAY, why not just make them a bit thicker?
Wow. The only anti-ipod statement that I can agree with.
Any real geek who bad-mouths an ipod touch has either never played with one, or is just jealous. I hate apple as much as most people, but the touch I recently bought is one of the coolest toys I have ever owned. Get over it people! If you hate the things so much, why are you even reading threads for their products!?
Heh...all you Cowon vs. iTouch losers are starting to sound like the Windows vs. MacOS losers. Cowon has what, less market share of the PMP market than Apple has of the OS market?
Can't you find something else to compare your penis sizes to?
I'd like to consider this an alternative to poping open the ipod to replace the battery, since my girlfriend's ipod 2nd gen already doesn't hold a charge (less than 6 months having it). Apple just needs to stop making players that DIE SO FAST!
Apple could have made the ipod the same size as the phone and I don't think most would have cared/noticed. Actually, I prefer the thickness of the phone over the touch. Then maybe they could have doubled the battery life ...
I don't understand apples obsession with thin ... it's good to a point, but the ipod touch (I have one) doesn't have good battery life - especially when apps are used.
