Develop, the suits at
Nintendo are thinking of making the
DSi Shop a bit more than it is right now. Reportedly, bigwigs from the Big N who met up at a company developer conference in London discussed "an exciting and major new app strategy for the DSi," with one source noting that the firm was keen on having devs "offer all kinds of software once the DSi store fully launches in Europe and America." It makes sense to have downloadable short-form titles available; after all, the DSi has an inbuilt camera and microphone, making it perfect for downloading "DSi Ware-like" apps. We'll be keeping a close eye on Iwata's Game Developers Conference keynote for more insight, but 'til then, we're filing this one in the "we want to believe" folder.

I feel like I'm the only person that still uses the Original Nintendo DS.
I never had any interest in the Lite, but the DSi looks promising.

I think they are facing a dilemma here, the base of DS is too big to be ignored, but DSi doesnt really have capability to do much more than DS, I will stick to my psp1000 and ndsl

I can't say I agree. Big points in its favour:
1) onboard SD card storage (and embedded, too). The DSi has the capability to do lots of things it could not before, at least could not without a flash card or add-on of some description.
2) app store. Yes please to this. The DS can be so much more. I was always perplexed at how they needlessly limited the capabilities of the original DS (and DS Lite). At the very least, that calendar was begging for an organiser with text input by default...but user-storage was never offered. The default alarm was also shocking...
3) finally it can support WPA encryption (but not for regular DS games...)
All these add up to a lot more possibilities. Better internet integration and included browser adds up to far more possiblities in itself. Of course all this costs more :)

I'm not really too into the DSi. Don't think I'm gonna give up my GBA port. That's where my Final Fantasy VI lives.
I agree, especially since Nintendo has in essence EOLed the GBA, GBA SP and Micro.
playing GBA games on the DS is not the best experience, IMO. If you can, you owe it to yourself to just get a Game Boy Advance of some description.... plus there's no multiplayer capability on the DS for GBA titles.

Yup Software is the answer. That will DENFINATELY distract from the fact the DSi is still using 5 year old hardware.

While they are at it, how about a internet plan for the Wii that doesn't suck? Nintendo - I like being able to find friends and play online without knowing a long string of numbers from their console.
Yes, because " knowing a long string of numbers from their console" is a horribly confusing and time consuming task that makes online play a chore, right? Speaking to a friend and then clicking in 12 numbers into a 12 space field? My god, what will they make me do next? Sacrifice a lamb on an alter to get downloadable content?

Completely agree. Despite what Ozzman says, there is room here for improvement. Maybe entering a 12 digit code isn't as bad as getting shot in the face, but things shouldn't need to be that bad in order for a simpler mechanism to be figured out.
I'd heard earlier on that Nintendo was considering downloadable apps for the DS by utilizing a similar solution to their Opera Browser: Two cartridges. One for the DS-slot, one for the GBA-slot. The GBA-slot would allow for the memory storage, similar to the homebrew solutions on the market now.
However, with the DSi losing the GBA-slot this wouldn't be a viable plan. They could still come out with a DS card with a large amount of storage. Yes, they haven't done anything over a Gigabit in commericial releases, but releasing something with capacity and DS-compatibility would lure in buyers.
Didn't I keep hearing that the DSi would support SD cards for photos, music, and DS-Ware apps?

Those of you who are complaining that DSi has no game boy advance slot are dumb because you can use emulators and download free GBA games and play them on your computer same thing with DS games which suck so bad. I dont why everyone thinks DS games are so good.
