BenQ's nScreen i91 all-in-one PC gets the hands-on treatment
BenQ's nScreen i91 came straight out of left field around a month ago, and while it definitely looked striking in the press photography, the live-in-person look is even nicer. Said machine has been unboxed and photographed somewhere in Asia, and it somehow managed to pick up a svelte looking VoIP phone along the way. Hit up the read link for a few more good looks, and if you're a native Chinese speaker, you may even learn some of the pros and cons of ownership.

No, I'm 2nd.
You underestimated.
Misunderestimated.
Specs:
CPU: AMD Sempron 210U, clock 1.5GHz
Chipset: AMD 690E + SB600
Memory: 1GB
Hard Disk: 160GB
Screen: 18.5 inch, 1366 × 768 (i91 models); 21.5 inch, 1920 × 1080 (i221 models)
Operating System: Windows XP Home
Expansion Interface: USB × 6,4 in 1 card reader, 1.3 million Webcam, CD-ROM drive (optional) and the VoIP phone (optional)
Looks nice, but the specs sound like garbage...
wow that's some old tech.
i was gonna ask why xp? but now i know.
They should make a 27 inch and 32 inch version instead - specs sound good enough for at least 720p playback, so with a larger drive, it could make a budget media pc / Entertainment center if it had the proper graphics imputs.
specs are better than i expected, as i thought there was a junky atom inside. but what the hell is with all the STICKERS?! they should just make the whole computer a stick; peel the back off and plant the thing on your wall.
that looks like a nice voip phone.
...Because it's impossible for a non-native speaker to learn a language...
Holding out for 7, are we?
Runs Windows. Meh.
Despite that I agree, I'd like to hear what OS you think is the most suitable replacement in the Chinese market ;)
That's because Windows doesn't artificially lock its software to specific brands of computers.
Wow Windows Xp looks ugly....it didn't age well (I'm talking about eye candy OS here like Vista/Win7 not performance Since everyone knows Xp have a great performance )
that looks niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. somehow just looks better than the rest AIOs
its a ipc
Hi,
Just wanted to suggest something to the Engadget team. Can you guys please STOP saying "the hands-on treatment" at the end of tittles? It's really getting old.
love the site.
:)
thanks
Nice copy of Chindows XP running on there, btw.
Excuse me?
Last time I looked, we don't refer to the English version of XP as 'Englows XP'.
Perhaps we should call the North American version 'Chessburgows XP'.
For all the Chinese articles you guys (Engadget) link, I wonder why you haven't hired someone who speaks a few of those dialects.
Here's what the Taiwanese site says
"BenQ made available a Nettop, named nScreen, based on AMD's Yukon platform, a month ago. We've managed to get our hands on the 19" screen i91, which combines both screen and main box into one. And, Annti (presumably one of the reviewers) can't wait to find out the audio output and the power usage.
The i91's audio output and power usage were tested under a fully-loaded CPU, running a 1080p movie, with all power management off, and the screen set to the brightest. The results was a power consummation of 48W with an audio output of 26 decibel.
Performance is one notch better than the Intel Atom, especially in displying 3D. When managing HD movies, the quality of 1080p is plus or minus 11frames, while 720p handles alright. Seems Yukon is still unable to handle full HD. There's something to watch out for if the i91 is to be treated as a pet unit (animal machine, literal translation. whatever does that mean), the audio and the brightness controls are both located on the bottom right of the unit. The screen however, does not come with an on/off switch. The only power switch is that of the unit, so the only way to switch the screen off is to go through the power management in the OS.
The recommended retail price of the i91 is about NT$17,900, while the 22-inch i22 is at NT$19,900. Although not fully capable of handling full HD, the unit is still good for light to medium usage, and is suitablke for dad, mum or the kids to use.
"the quality of 1080p is plus or minus 11 frames"
Oh noes! :)
Regardless of the screen resolution, (not) being able to play back 1080p content (BD) is a problem. First one of these cheap and energy efficient buggers to pass that hurdle gets the win.
I managed to putz out my Atom netbook yesterday trying to watch digital TV via a USB-connected outboard tuner. CPU was at 100%, fan was in hyper mode, and it was still dropping frames every second or so.
NEEDS MOAR STICKERS
..upgrade to Vista while you're at it.
XP is great...but it's time to move on.
Move on to Ubuntu? Otherwise you are moving back.
With Ubuntu, you never stop moving. Bleh
I think that it suits XP.
What do I see? Is that a matte screen? Finally a company that understands that looking at your computer screen and into your mirror are different activities?
doh move on to Win7 beta!!! Its free..... for now...
XP?
Not really excited about the machine as a whole, but it has a knob. I love knobs, my cell even has a knob, kinda, but I've never had a computer with a knob, and I think thats pretty cool. I know, weird.
so its already obsoloete! LOL! at least put Winblows 7 on it. xp was so half a decade ago!
