DJ Hero's site goes live, doesn't drop any clues, beats

A little while back, Activision -- the fine folks responsible for bringing Guitar Hero to the world -- confirmed that it was working on a similarly named new title, DJ Hero. Well, the official site's appeared, and though it gives us no information about the actual game itself, well, you get the idea, right? Please, please let the above setup work in cooperation with Guitar Hero so that we can finally fulfill our dream of playing the part of Mr. Hahn with the rest of our band, Linkin Park.

first, this is awesome
now to elaborate further, I have been waiting on this since I first heard of guitar hero. I myself am a fan of all music, but would love to scratch some hip-hop and house music. I could see myself throwing a party and blasting this on the TV, I've thrown worse parties. I wish we could import MP3s or CDs, but music industry exec's can't possibly allow us to have that much freedom or fun, could they?
I understand why your first post got down voted, but why the second one? I agree, this game looks sick...I would pick it up in a minute (well, depending on price) because I L*O*V*E DJ music. And the last thing you said....hit the nail on the head man.
@ Jon Graft
Just what in the hell is "DJ music"?
Man, engadget just read my mind. everytime i ever think of DJ as part of music in a bad or anything, i always think of Linkin Park as they used to be my once favorite band... ladies and gentlemen... please welcome, Mr. Hahn!
that said. im not getting this game. i get enough linkin park from playing my rock band 2 drums to custom songs.
Beatmania
I think I'm going to go kill myself now
The home release for Beatmania sucked ASS. I can't BELIEVE I wasted so much money on such a poorly made game.
imports my friend....imports
I'm not sure about this.
wokka wokka woo woo!
I seriously just pictured Fozzy Bear saying that.
Cautiously interested. Don't screw it.
This game sounds like a good idea. And it's great for people who don't like RB/GH, and DJ Hero is great for people who want to enjoy more music: Hip-Hop, Pop, R&B, Techno, etc. This game could be good.
what the world is this?
A shameless ripoff
A ripoff? Of what?
This is a blind shot into the stagnating music genre.
Beatmania, as was said above

DJMAX: Fever
i would never put it past activision to ruin an idea/game...
They didn't come up with guitar hero, Harmonix did, and a small company called RedOctane published it as their second game (In The Groove, programmed by RoXoR, being the first, it faded into obscurity after Konami sued the pants off of RoXoR). Activision bought RedOctane after GH1 became a hit (and discontinued all of their old products, though there is some old stock still available), and then Harmonix moved to EA for Rock Band, (and rightfully so), while GH moved to a different developer after GH2, which was in development before Activision bought them. GH has since then sold out, and been over-merchandised by Activision while the players moved over to Rock Band, although GH is still a top selling game because of the brand. It also explains why Activision hasn't sued for Rock Band being a ripoff, the actual patents are owned by Harmonix.

@telepheedian
For the record....ITG has definately NOT faded into obscurity. A good portion of the hardcore dance game players still prefer it to DDR and the community is still solid (hacking the machines helps alot)
That said, it does sicken me so much what GH became. When it was first announced (long before anyone outside the bemani community even knew of it's existance) I had such high hopes for the Guitar Freaks that never was (ie, the one released outside Japan) and then suddenly it gets some word of mouth from MTV and everyone has to have it. I couldn't even get it when it actually got released cause it sold out (opposite situation of ITG for PS2 which I couldn't find cause no one stocked it)
and then Redoctane sold out (in the other sense of the term)
Good that the players are still hacking the machines, I was an ITGer back in the day, though I noticed ITGfreak went down, I'm still hoping one of the Stepmania devs sneaks out the stuff that was to be itg3, Stepmania 4 development's really slowed. Ah, the good old days...
Actually, ITGFreak just changed domains....they're at rhythmatic.net now
and there is an ITG3 pack available http://rhythmatic.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19130
Well I'm excited..this game could be really freakin awesome if they pull it off right. Maybe throw in some integration with the other games for some live samples or to simulate a real hiphop collective sort of feel. Don't screw it up!
"work in commiseration" ?!
I think you wanted a different word, there.
It would be nice if they released this for the PC, along with Turntable controllers or something, and it analyzed your entire library of songs, and let you use those.
From there it would tell you when to scratch, bring in another track, fade, filter audio, etc.
That would be something I'd buy instantly. But I have a feeling this is going to be pretty lame.
Ugh.. this is a fucking MESS. The same ruination that Guitar Hero did to actual guitar playing. Except here's the deal. DJing is EASY. It's SO VERY EASY to beatmatch within about uh.. 2 hours of starting your first mix. While it takes years to master, as opposed to just learn, it's so easy to pick up and try that I don't know why the fuck anyone would honestly want to play a DJ Hero GAME when they could just do the real THING. This isn't even like guitar playing. Guitar playing has a much steeper learning curve as opposed to spinning records.

Go here. Pick up the Numark DMC2's. Burn some CD's. Learn to DJ. Forget this mess. If you love to DJ after playing with a starter kit like these, upgrade to CDJ's or a Tech 12k vinyl setup/Serato or something similar. If not, hock the tables to EBay and get on with your life.
You missed the point...this is a damn game!
Yeah you don't know anything about DJing. It's an art. Yeah, it might not be super difficult to mix a song together, but the real creativity comes in the type of songs you pick and creating a totally new song from an existing song.
". DJing is EASY."
OK.... This coming from someone who is playing "PornStarHero" in front of his PC every night.
Say wha?
DJing is NOT EASY. Some people simply can't ever learn to beatmatch, which is the main activity of the working DJ, because they don't have the timing skill. Playing records is easy, and sliding the fader over to the next track is trivial, but that's not what a real DJ does.
This game is a terrible idea because, if it's anything like spinning records, people will be trainwrecking like crazy, and that's a horrible thing to hear.
Still, why buy a game for this - low quality equipment is cheap and buying accessories for this would probably cost as much or more.
Activision peaked with Pitfall...
Just wonder how many ppl will play this and actually think that they are a dj afterwards? :)
probs same amount of ppl who play guitar hero and think they are the bomb too :D
i myself look forward to you tube clips of kids moving their djhero skills to 1200's and trying to recreate
Actually the difference is that DJing is a lot easier than starting a band and writing songs. Also a lot cheaper. These days you don't need a turntable and mixer when we have all in one CDJ units or USB Midi interfaces where the software autobeatmatches the tracks for you.
exciting!
@Engadget: give me a job. I am a better journalist, do my research, and know what the hell I'm talking about before I post for thousands I people to read it.
Activision are NOT the "fine folks that brought guitar hero to the world."
HARMONIX is. Activision is the rich corporation that bought the creative people.
Jesus Christ guys, you're supposed to be tech geeks?
Ps: apparently telepheedian beat me to it. +1, sir/madam.
Why can't guitar hero release a game with a real guitar , and make the button presses the real cords! , it just seems like that would be the way to go
I guess this is gonna be more into scraching and stuff and less of the tedious real DJ stuff like beatmatching. After all, it's a game, it's meant to be fun, and having a steep learning curve is going to make this a shocking game to play. But I really don't think this is such a good idea or concept.
Harmonix already made this game, twice. and we didn't even have to by a special controller. Frequency and Amplitude kicked ass too, it is so sad that there is a lot to make in selling special controllers. =(
The good news is that ain't a scratch battle style mixer and more of a mixer used by Electronic Dance Music DJs thus the music it will feature only?
I am a professional DJ and here is my take:
ill get it just because everybody and their mother will ask me about it and would be inappropriate to not know a thing about it. Maybe DJ's will be cool again. There are too many people that just put the 2 letters, D and J, in front of every acronym in the english language and make a myspace. that being said ... it really diluted the fact that there are some big names out there and never get appreciated or the recognition they deserve. Also don't forget that DJ'ing is basically playing somebody's else's songs/re-mix's in ways its never been played or mixed before over a couple hour long set (in a 4 hour set i go through about 130 songs). Big difference compared to just sliding a crossfader from one side to another. dont forget scratching / turntableism is recognized by USC's (U of Southern California) music department as a legit instrument.
wow. i dunno. just rather play a real party. wanna see some A list hollywood parties i have done in the past? go here. www.DJDIK.com
Just what the world needs..... even more "DJs."
The Site's annoying..............I see they used my idea I posted on the Playstation Blog about Six Months ago.
lol, I agree, just learn to DJ instead of getting a game. You don't even need decks or learn how to beat mtch, just load up a copy of Ableton and away you go! You can make it a game, if you're friends start dancing, you win, if they all leave, you lose.
