R2D2 casemod is affordable, convincing evidence of our continued love for old sci-fi epic

We'll let you in on a little secret: we find the constant stream of Star Wars-inspired you-name-it to be a little, shall we say... played? That said, this R2D2 casemod is totally, impressively rad. Made from a grabage can, it's obviously a labor of love, and the results are insanely "real" looking -- yup, that's Artoo-Deetoo, hanging out in that guy's humble abode. This droid's got a webcam, speakers, LEDs -- all the good stuff you'd expect from a highly detailed piece of nerdery, and if you're action-oriented, you can make one of your very own for roughly $150. Hit the read link for tons of photos and detailed instructions. One more shot of the little dude after the break.

But will it wander around my house making witty "beep boop beep "comments that only C3P0 and my toaster will understand? Cause if it does, I'm in.
Does it roll around? Does it randomly make beeping noises?
Will my neighbors think I am weird if I talk it for a walk after work?
It looks pretty good.
take it for a walk...
Successful troll is successful
Not a new idea, but this one is a bit larger.

Y'know...If you want one that'll roll around and make noise...I've got an old R2D2 rom hasbro...It does all that crap...Now, to figure out where to actually fit the computer!
Put it on a roomba!!
Ooooook, cats are better.

This dude in the pic is a tool
what did you expect him to look like... he built a starwars droid out of a garbage can.
I'd like to share this thought with nerdologists everywhere,
"The thing's hollow—it goes on forever—and—oh my God—it's full of ..!"
If I had a grabage can, I'd fill it with things that are fun to grab, not fill it with computer parts. That's the problem with dorks like the one in the photo - they've got their priorities all wrong.
"What are these so called 'titties' you speak of? You can grab them? Really? But I need a computer shaped like my personality to keep me company."
Take out the webcam and put in a projector. Then I'll buy it.
you're a star trek case
next add a pico projector and the build is complete...haha im sick of star wars...lol
Screw the R2... what about those flash tear away pants this toolbag is sporting?
WANT! anyone having a swipe at the guys dress sense or being a geek, please feel free to post a pic of your Brad Pitt lookin/A list self going to the latest nitespots with sevral starlets hanging off your arm. Would you really be in *here* if you were not something of a geek yourself. This place like E-news for nerds. Not a huge amount of technical detail, just newsbytes - and dont we love it :))
YAY! I always wanted a case that looked like commander Data from Star Trek. hm hm hm ^_^

So nobody thinks that guy is a dead ringer for Jonathon Winters from "Mork and Mindy" fame. I know it's a dated reference but given the subject matter of the photo, it plays more ironic!
now to make the flying R2D2 case mod :P
Geez there's one thing older and less imaginative than making such a case and that is 'cleverly' come with remarks about getting laid (as if the people that make those clever remarks get laid more by not having a star-wars case anyway).
To those who made a getting laid remark: You should get a job writing sitcoms for ABC, give them a call.
But can it play Crysis?
Someone had to say it... :P
not really, seeing its a case....
