Samsung and Sharp, like any good pair of competitors, have been
slapping each other around for
years now. Specifically, Sharp tagged Samsung with an
LCD patent infringement lawsuit back in the latter half of 2007, and at long last the courts have made a decision. In short, Samsung wins.
The Wall Street Journal has an exceptionally brief writeup noting that Sammy has declared victory in the case as a Tokyo court "upheld a Samsung Electronics' countersuit filed last June that claimed that Sharp LCD TV products infringed on Samsung's patents." There's no word on what affect this will have on either firm, but feel free to cheer / cry at the office today in order to truly show your fanboy colors at work.

Oh wait...yeah, I have a Samsung LCD HDTV. Pretty damn good. So, I guess I'm a Samsung fanboy.
I'm kind of a Samsung fanboy too. Every product I've ever owned of theirs has been fantastic. From cell phones, to PC memory, MP3 players, hard drives, PC monitors, DVD players, to the 50" plasma I just got last week. All have been top notch and solidly built.
Yep, except for their early cell phones (from 2/3+ years ago). They used to hang for no reason.
Actually, a couple of newer ones do too.
Don't know about their smartphones, though.
I've owned many Samsung products and I'm glad to see that Samsung won. So call me a fanboi. Their products are damn good and I'll keep buying more in the future.
what happened to sharp? they used to be at the forefront of tv tech but by last year they seemed dead with no new sets out or on the same schedule as samsung/sony/panasonic.

Yeah. One of the first times I saw the Samsung logo was on construction equipment. Bulldozers and stuff.
I love everything about Samsung except for their damned Red Touch of Color. Not that I object in principle, I just don't like the color and wish they didn't lock you into buying red on most of their LCD models. I'm planning to get one of the blue or charcoal upper end series when I upgrade soon.
