Struktable multitouch table is as fun to use as it is to say

Sure, you can make a multi-touch table out of just about anything these days, but it still always pretty impressive when a project comes together as nicely as this so-called Struktable multi-touch surface built by the folks at Struk Design Studio. Like some other rigs, this one relies on the FTIR (or frustrated total internal reflection) effect, which makes use of some infrared LEDs placed around the edge of the display, and a mirror and a short-throw projector to actually display the image on the surface. As you can see in the video after the break, that works remarkably well, with the table able to support up to eight simultaneous users and "unlimited finger touches" at the same time (we'll let you do the math there). What's more, while the table is one of a kind at the moment, the folks at Struk are more than happy to build more if the price is right, or simply rent out the one they have if you're on a bit more of a budget.

if the screen got hot enough, you could fry bacon on it.
haha :)
bacon!
cool!
alright!
multiplayer pong!
to all the ladies out there, I am also multi-touch
you get drunk off budlight?
i am now more embarrassed than the guy that gets drunk off budlight
yes, but can it withstand a slammed down bud light ? or a spilled bud light ? or a sraped bud light cap ? basily is it drunk resistant ?
If it can only support up to 8 users how the hell can it support unlimited finger touches?
What are they doing? Charting the Kessel run?
That wasn't intended as a reply!
Well, maybe only 8 people can stand around the table.
looks pretty cool
:) yeah... about the 8 people: it's really a space issue. So if everybody is slim there will be more touches...
PS: the Studio is called Strukt. I know, it's confusing with the table... but strukttable seemed odd...
strukt.com is the url if anybody should be interested...
It actually does withstand drink-attacks. first of all it's safetyglass, you can basically stand on it. and secondly the glass surface is sealed off so drinks won't run into the part that holds electronics. The table was presented at a design conference where at least 2 drinks were spilled over it as far as i know. =)
thanks for the post!
You have to make a device like that washable anyway, if people put their grubby paws all over it, stands to reason, although there are some companies that would actually not think of that I bet.
So, is this like Reactable V2 or what?
No, it's a different thing. It's a totally different technology (FTIR instead of direct illumination) and we don't support fiducial tags (but it's in development). And the reactable is a music instrument. We wanted to build a multipurpose tool for all kinds of applications. What you see in the video is just a small portion of the apps we have currently in development and pretty soon we'll have some new tools to show!
So can we have the circuits and plans for this beautiful device? :)
Hand sanitizer.
Nothing new, but an excellent execution.
