TASER's AXON on-officer recording system could revolutionize COPS
Oh sure, technically COPS is still a current show, but seriously, the formula hasn't changed in eons. TASER International's AXON / EVIDENCE.com tandem is gearing up to change all that -- so long as officers agree to strap the hardware on their person, that is. In short, AXON is an on-officer recording system that captures audio and video of arrests, and after the scuffle is complete, it sends the data (encrypted heavily, of course) to EVIDENCE.com servers that are managed far, far away from the potentially dubious grasp of police departments. There are built in sensors to see if any data has been tampered with, and if all goes to plan, the entire system should be ready for deployment in Q3 of this year. In other words, go ahead and get all your stupidity out before the summer ends.

First of all, I think cops should have to have camera implanted in their bodies so that we can always see what they do. They want the job with that much power? We should have the right as a society to make sure they don't abuse it or become a danger to the community they're supposed to protect.
Second, I think this device would put to awesome use in the adult film industry.
VERSION 6.0 will include facial recognition connected to criminal facebook database.
Yeah. I'd love it if these were mandatory for cops. Who will protect us from our protectors? TASER, I guess. Who'd've thought?
For the same reason, I'm sure these aren't ever going to be mandatory.
This would be excellent if used on space marines who are reconnoitering derelict spaceships or planetary bases; real time transmissions could be sent back to an inexperienced, cowardly senior officer, who may or may not be hiding nefarious corporate experiments and/or secrets.
Well, it should be noted that these video systems are meant for the officer's protection, not to keep tabs on them. This protects the officer in court (hence the tamper proof encoding, like red evidence tape) when lawsuits or internal investigations occur. Taser International came up with this product due to the fact that in most cases when a taser is deployed, questions rise about the justification of force. With this product, the officer can quickly initiate recording by pressing a button on the device. The officer's two-way radio communications are also recorded through the Axon. This ensures that the officer followed departmental procedure before deploying their taser. Especially with intoxicated individuals, the now-sobered suspect has definite proof of their behavior and actions, ultimately preventing a future lawsuit. While it would be nice to regulate the efficiency of our officers, the best we can do is leave it to their superiors. The officers in my area do their job, and I have no complaints.
Who watch the watchmen?
"chatting from car to car in parking lots instead of patrolling;"
The single most common thing that I see in my area. To be fair though, cops don't have much to do in Arlington, Virginia.
Can't wait to see all the YouTube videos of cute Indian girls working at Dunkin' Donuts.
I like your positive outlook.
this camera does the same http://www.microvicam.com/
pretty cool
Agreed, this is awesome technology. Hope to use this when I'm in Law Enforcement.
Small correction to the article: "EVIDENCE.com servers that are managed one short phonecall away"
itd be great if that means the end of fucking reports, damn
