Video: Sanwa's throat mic for city-bred sissies
Throat mics have been around for decades. However, unless you're manning a tank or involved in black ops, you've likely never seen such a set beyond the reach of a typical paintball turret. Sanwa's throat mic (pictured) is an urban take to the otherwise, combat-inspired gear design you'll find at retail. Unfortunately, we can't find any additional detail beyond the images. We can, however, drop in a hardcore video of the $50-ish US Special Forces Throat Mic (as it's called) from Real Action Paintball. This rugged mic with voice-box positioned transducer is compatible with VOX-capable radios and features four styles of discrete listening devices (special forces, secret service, SWAT, and Socom) and a remote push-to-talk (PTT) switch that can be strapped to the index finger supporting your sniper rifle. Fake-war is so much fun.

Not that bad, I'd buy one.
Wonder if it works on the PS3, ahem SOCOM. My Clan kicks ass! The Unforgiven! (UNF)
This type of product would connect directly to a two-way radio. To use this with the PS3, you would also need a bluetooth transceiver.
This would work well with a PS3 and eliminate echo as well as background noises for people that have their TV/Stereo system turned up to loud.
Voted up because voting him down is a pointless act of negativity and I think he's just sincerely enthusiastic and there's nothing wrong with that dammit.
hello .nice website
why hello there fellow gadget lover :)
have a seat, make yourself comfortable, enjoy your stay but whatever you do DONT SAY THE iWord
By the way, I like how you break from the norms of punctuation.
I think you'll really fit in here.
I for one welcome our new brethlen overlords.
This looks really cool. Definitely if the "urban" one has a decent price point, I'd consider it.
Wouldn't that tickle?
That's what she said!
Do want for motorcycling. There are a few throat mics around for riders but because it's such a small market they're stupidly expensive.
Throat mikes are great for high noise environments...
I just wish someone made one with bluetooth.
For the last 3 years I've been saying this. The current bluetooth headsets do too good a job at making you look like an ass. If they removed the mic to a throat mic and just an ear piece for sound, then the world would be right... sort of.
They (sony for starters) make BT devices with jackplug connectivity in which you can plug most anything you know, add some cost but once you have it you can use it for a variety of devices and headphones and that compensates a bit.
They had this 4 or so years ago though the technology was not there. Maybe it will get better
Now my GF can call her friends when she gives me a BJ!
i guess there isnt much filling her mouth then, huh
That's not what your Mama said...
This can also work extremely well for voice recognition software. These products are highly dependent on the user positioning the mic in exactly the same place every time, which is often hard to do. Move the boom 5mm either way and the software doesn't know what you are saying. Devices like this allow for more consistent voice input.
I was under the impression voice recognition was by now slightly more advanced than how you describe it.
Although from voicechat I heard I know there is a fair number of people with speechissues like hard breathing and smacking sounds of their lips by the way they turned out, and such, which might be picked up easily if the mic doesn't sit right and would indeed confuse software.
Seems like a good idea to me. Just in case cell phones and wireless headsets DO cause brain tumors...
Yup! So now you can become infertile from keeping the phone in your pocket instead! ;)
I've got one of these, and the performance is lousy. On the plus side, its sound quality is just as poor regardless of how noisy your environment is.
Clearercom.com also does throat mics. Everything from cell phone, radio, motorcycle, and full out military grade.
I keep wanting to buy the cellphone model but I always remember the headset when I have a phone they won't work with. Case in point, my Fuze will need a stupid adapter for the 2.5 jack.
:(
Headlines for people with issues of their own sexuality.
The term "sissy" doesn't even sound all that manly either.
I can see (hear?) it now -- you are deep into a frag session when someone out there started shoveling Cheetos into their mouth and washing it down with Coke..... and everyone gets to hear the details in glorious Thoat-Mic enhanced sound.
Is the video from a screen capture of DOOM II?
great, another way for people to look CRAZY as they walk down the street talking to thin air.
Real Action Paintball representin'!
Are you talkin to me?!
This looks remarkably similar to the Firefox throat mic available for $30 from REI.
Did you try one? Are those any good?
... need one for the race car!
It isn't really that terribly noise when talking on Moto or Nokia
Voice Clarity or Crystal Talk works nice in Tube,
unless you are using SE or LG, which is sadly another story.
