First. Meh.
How can I change my comment password on this site to something I can remember, anyway?
Meh? Then why'd you exclaim first?

1080p at 20fps? That can't be right! What a waste! Why don't they do it at 15 or 10!! 720p at 30 sounds good but I'd much prefer 720p at 60fps like the Panasonic G1H.
My EF and EFS lenses and I will find room in our hearts for this camera body.
A few more FPS and I'll finally go DSLR...so close.
i just blue myself
I have something of a mess on my hands as well.
They're going back to the film SLR name? Nice!
*owns a Rebel T2*
if it was 1080p at 30fps i'd sell my K200D and start saving up for this baby right now.
I just got a Rebel xs.
:(
I doubt it will be in the same price range as the XS. So you don't have anything to be :( about.
@TJ
You comment is as erroneous as it is uninformed.
a.) How do you know the price range of this unannounced camera?
b.) How do you know harriss would not "pony up" the extra dough if it twas more expensive?
c.) Suck it.
@Billy Fool
I can answer a and c
a.) The T1i is the replacement for the XSi (450D), I believe it is the 500D or Kiss X3, SO there you go.
from dpreview.com http://www.dpreview.com/news/0903/09032504canoneos500d.asp
Canon has unveiled the EOS 500D (Digital Rebel T1i), the latest addition to its compact DSLR series. The upper-entry-level camera features a 15.1 MP APS-C CMOS sensor with 1080p HD video recording at 20fps. It also offers a 3.0 inch LCD with 920,000 dot resolution and an ISO sensitivity range expandable up to 12800 equivalent. It includes a faster Digic 4 processor offering better noise reduction at higher ISO's and continuous shooting speeds of up to 3.4 fps delivering 170 large JPEG images in a single burst.
b.) I don't know I can say he wont but he might say he will. He can say whatever he must not that he can be proven right or wrong.
c.) IN YOURS!!!
damnit! i just bought the XSi... it hasnt even arrived yet and its already being replaced :(
Still a great camera. We got ours a few weeks ago and have been really loving it.
Well..at least you didn't buy an XTi a week before the XSi was announced =(
imagine quality is better on the XTI over the XSI
imagine quality? i didn't know that was a feature of the XSi/XTi.... and here I am with my XT and no imagine quality whatsoever :(
http://www.canonrumors.com/ follows the latest rumors if anyone is interested
finally someone posts something useful in the comments. thank you.
this one looks pretty cool
All you have to do is Google it ; Cnet + t1i
First result is Cnet and Cnet Tv. They pulled the video but they haven't pulled the link.
Good thing I already own an XTi, so I know better than to waste money on another POS again. Next upgrade is probably going back to film... medium format is calling my name
Anyone else think 15 megapixels is getting a little cramped?
And to the people worried about their recent purchases...I shoot an XSi, my roommate shoots XTi, and we both agree what's really important is the lens we use, not the megapixel count.
-Oh, and if you want video, buy a freaking video camera! That has got to eat batteries!
maybe we want video with interchangeable lenses! maybe we want video on occasion, not too often, while out shooting photos.
suck it!
I agree with every statement you make.. XTi/XSi and the the 40D are about as good as it will get in the cropped sensor dslr.
If you want more out of your images... like I do then it's time to go full frame or back to film... and sadly i'm thinking about turning back to film because full frame digital is too expensive right now and it really pisses me off because it shouldn't have to be like that...
@guest..
it's okay to want that
but don't be like one of those annoying humans who complains about bad video quality, slow video fps, or no video autofocus when your buying a damn photo camera.
I am just on a rampage today, taking my anger about the media out on innocent people.. I really should get back to work
You can still find the original video here:

Gizmodo has a hands on:

I can see the kit lens being really really bad on this thing...
It's the same kit lens that come with the other Rebels. They're surely not the greatest in the world but suffice for an entry level type camera... Plus you can always buy the body only.
the whole article and hands on video on cnet is here as well:

It's official; Canon has come clean on the T1i:

(Now watch the number of hits on that site jump a hundredfold. ;-)

I hope this means that a T1 is soon to come...
Yeah who knew that T-1's kin was a dslr camera. Or did Canon morph into Cyberdyne...
Nice camera, but why are the US names so rediculous? 400D, 450D, 500D makes much more sense! It would be helpful if engadget used both names so that people from other countries around the globe knew what they were talking about. :-)
