DSiWare to include Game Boy and Game Boy Advance downloads?
We really would like to think this is inevitable, but it's just been sourced from Nintendo itself (albeit at a GameStop meetup) that the DSi might be getting Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles as downloadable DSiWare -- in addition to previously announced apps like browsers and calculators. This was heard second-hand from a Club Nintendo member, and Nintendo has pointed out to the folks at Kombo that reported it that so far such functionality has only been announced for Japan, but didn't go on the deny it outright. If it does come true we're supposed to expect some first party titles out of the gate, with all games being region locked and ranging from $5 to $8. There were also mumblings of playing downloaded titles off of SD cards, which Nintendo shot down as well, but hopefully we'll at least be able to make backups -- we're still waiting on similar functionality for the Wii.[Via Joystiq]

I thought this was a foregone conclusion but good news nonetheless!
Whats good, iWhore. Seems someone's got a thing against blue hedgehogs.
Choose your words carefully, mortal. Me n the mario brothers go back further than ur mom even -thought- of conceiving you in that threesome with zune guy and yogi bear. and you're just a text message away from gettin ur ass rolled on.
This is certainly a good idea, but I hope that these games come to the Wii VC as well. Better yet, allow us to sync the accounts and share games between the two.
Dealextreme sold a bunch of fake R4s this month. It's all over R4 forums. You've been warned.
About R4 not being updated.... well i don't know i saw the compatiblity list and everything seems to be running ok.... I haven't heard about the others and hear they are too expensive for being R4 rip-offs...
Sorry, not gonna pay for any downloads on my DS.
I don't put the thing down since I got my R4.
I do still have a DS Phat so I am considering a DSi nonetheless.
shame, shame on you.
That said, which website did you use to get ur R4? :D
I still have a launch-day DS too. But I'm kinda strapped for cash after buying a laptop.
I got 5 from http://www.dealwoot.com/ for everyone I know that has a DS.
@TareXDealExtreme if you want to get the lowest price. But please, choose something else than the R4, it's not updated by the manufacturer anymore.Go with something like the AceKard 2 or the CycloDS.
TTDS from dealextreme for the win :)
If I don't have to pay for games I already own, then I might consider getting a DSi a few months after release. I have both a phat and lite, not to mention a Pocket and Advance, so it might be a little redundant, but I do miss backlights when playing Pokemon Yellow.
haha i still have that game. its a classic
agreed.
So they got rid of the GB slot just to make more money? Way to please your fans.
YES THEY DID... well they also needed space for the SD cards... but they could have let us use MicroSD cards or something.
Thus why I bought a spare NDSL, Sold my Wii and will never buy another Nintendo Console in my life unless they get their heads out of their asses.
So that's why we're losing a slot for GBA games... I'm still miffed I can't play GBC in my lite. Now we can't play GBA on the DSi...
...I'll just play these on my PSP, thanks.
So that Nintendo can continue to make hand over fist in cash by selling us stuff we already own. Simple.
I wanted the next DS to be more backwards compatable. I want to play my original GB carts on it.
So where can I download the app to make Guitar Hero work on it?
:P
Dear Nintendo,Please make the games I already own on the Wii VC linkable to the Nintendo DSi (I take under account the power of the Nintendo DSi, and I don't expect Nintendo 64 games on it without a port). Playing NES and SNES games wherever I am would make me extremely happy.Thanks, m-p{3}
Dear User,
NO SOUP FOR YOU
Love, Nintendo
Maybe this will provide a much needed cut-down in price for the used game market for GB, GBC & GBA games. They seemed to have rather high prices in used video game shops in comparison to other used games.
True. I saw Pokemon FireRed and Super Mario Bros. 3 for $20 at Gamestop. Might as well buy them new.
Marvelous news - more Castlevania titles to choose from...
/bliss
why are people still buying R4? I bought a M3 DS Simply a couple years ago and it was better then my friends R4. I have an Acekard2 now with an Acekard 2i for my DSi on the way. Acekard plus 8GB microsdhc card = like 100 games on one cart FTMFW
I agree. It's the R4 Clones that are still doing well. I personally like the R4 interface better due to the fact that you can erase games if they suck right off the cart which my M3 Real doesn't do. ....and please don't have someone respond with "Duhhh Game Piracy is wrong shame shame shame". Go wag the finger at yourself and don't try to hide the fact you have Gigs worth of movies and MP3s about your computer (be it mac or Windows). Effing Hypocrites.
How am I supposed to play Wario Ware: Twisted and Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand on the DSi. I guess I'll have to keep my DS Lite and GBA for now.
No thanks. I am not going to pay again for games that I already own. One of the reasons I sold my Wii. I don't see why I need to pay for cart based games I already own.
$5 is what is a travesty here. Most games on this platform are slimmed down versions of real games. Some fun there, but $5 -$8, way to milk the consumers more Nintendo. I guess its working so good on wii they figure keep up the trend.
if this is true, I'm totally picking up a DSi.
test
The original carts weren't region locked, so why restrict us now?
sticking with my DSL and my Cyclo DS with ALLLL my roms!! till the DS2 is released, then you'll see my ass first in line!!
OK let me get this straight, the DS incarnations never came with Native GB Support because according to Nintendo it was cheaper to not but that kind of old processing in the DS and to keep the form factor down (which I never understood cause a GB cart fits in a normal GBA slot), but now they want you to pay to download a GB game to play on your DS. I'm confused, does that mean that the DS does in fact support GB support? Are they using some kind of software emulator in the DSiWare?
