HP's debuts new Pavilion Elite m9600 series desktops, range of widescreen monitors
For middle-of-the-high-road types, HP just debuted its new Pavilion Elite m9600 series of Core i7 excitement. Things don't get quite as wild as Dell's new 24GB monsters, but HP packs in a respectable amount of power for the price. The base configuration includes a Core i7 920 2.66Ghz processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB hard drive, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GS graphics and a DVD burner, all for $950, and you can escalate up to a Core i7 940 2.93GHz processor, 12GB of RAM, a couple of 1TB hard drives, 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics and a Blu-ray burner. HP is also outing four new 16:9 monitors, the 18.5-inch w1858, 20-inch 2009m, 21.5-inch 2159m and 23-inch w2338h. The latter two include HDMI inputs, and the prices range from $170 to $300 -- not bad at all.

Decent i7 rig for under one grand?
Count me in.
Microcenter's been selling the dell 435mt for $950 for a while, but its current MSRP is still $1299.99. At this price, I wouldn't be surprised to see this machine on sale for around 800 - definitely a good deal.
Engadget writes create headline, use comma again
It's not just Engadget, every single blog I visit uses that form when creating the title. Well, not every single one of them, but the vast majority.
Everyone's copying the iMac's design in their monitors! EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!1eleventyone
Seriously, I mean this thing screams MAC, minus the price and lesser specs oh and don't forget the obnoxious following. Just another rip-off, ah yup.
Sorry, forgot to include [/sarcasm]
I was gonna go budget and get the $170 version, but what the hell I'm going big...and for $300.... I'll put one in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom... I will even bring my own computer to work. They're a little bulkier than a netbook, but worth it.
I just hope I can find a friend or co-worker to proof read my blogs...or just do it myself before I post things on the web!!!!
Copying Macs design? May I ask how? Seems like theres a pretty standard design for all LCD monitors... Flat.
Plus, I I remember correctly, many HP lcd rotate - and based on the base, I think this might be one of them. It's a great feature if you're setting up a multi- display system and dont want to put a few hundred towards a custom VESA mount.
i have to say HP makes some nice desktops computers but the main issue i have with HP is that the abilty to upgrade there computers is so hard that you need to take half the desktop apart. it got to the point with my m8100n i ended up getting a new COOLMASTER case and took everything out the HP tower and installing it in the new case the new case gave me space for a 2nd hard drive which the HP tower did not have. the new tower made it so easy to install ram and a 2nd dvd-rw and installed a nice video card. also the HP tower were running hot because everyhing was so tight inside of it.
MY SPEC'S

You are correct regarding upgrade. But you have to understand what you are getting. HP do sell ATX series desktops which are fullly upgradable. Of course they cost more and they don't have any crapped installed in it. What you pay is what you get
i'm so tired of things being called Elite...
let's come up with a new adjective to play out, like Bestest
4GB/3 channels = 1.33GB/stick??
do the i7's run in dual channal also?
Hackintosh candidate?
