Mercedes-Benz's F-CELL Roadster is chock-full of win
Mercedes-Benz has been toying with alternative-energy prototype vehicles for awhile now, but we're fairly certain this little gem is amongst the most bodacious. The obviously conceptual F-CELL Roadster hearkens back to M-B vehicles of old, though the engine is far from retro. Controlled with drive-by-wire technology and utilizing a joystick rather than a conventional steering wheel, this whip is (theoretically, at least) powered by a 1.2kW emission-free fuel cell system located at the rear. We're told that it could reach an enviable top speed of 15.5mph, and the 217 mile operating range definitely has us salivating. Frankly, this one's all about the design, and we can't implore you enough to give the read link a visit for lots more high-res action.

I love it! I am a big fan of Mercedes Benz and Lexus luxury cars. Retro-classic revival has been all the rage for a long time, but this is more extreme than anything yet.

I'll bet it corners like it's on rails...

Where is Dr. Z? Put him in the driver's seat and they'll sell a million of 'em.
I think that car looks good, the 1890s design details fit in nicely.
Now, Steer with the power of your leaning once again!
If it is truly electric.... why do you need a raised floor where the shaft was?
Cool, but looks like it would be a harsh ride too
I know the rain will hit my head but does it have to splash my legs too ?
Tyres are obviously for show, no grip and I wouldn't want to hit a bump, sore arse and I'll need to head off to a mercedes garage to get my spoked wheels trued up Hurrah for progress !
lightweight wheels are the least problem of a vehicle (15" aluminum wheels get down to about 7lbs each). The heaviest part of a car is the engine and chassis (hence why carbon fiber and aluminum blocks lighten a supercar so much). If you want to shave 20 pounds you could do so by going on a diet. And if I read that right, it's using a 1200watt motor? I've seen bicycles with that small of a motor, no wonder why the top speed is only 15mph.
that's the ride that every guy can use to pick up any chick
15.5 MPH?
I can ride my bike that fast AND get exercise.
maybe you could rent these out for city tours and replace horse carriage rides ... less maintenance i presume and less fecal matter
To slow to actually join traffic, to large for a multi-use trails or sidewalks, wheels that will only allow for flat roads?
Where are you actually suppose to use this thing?
15.5 mph is not hard on a decent road bike, which I am sure would costs less, and allow you to travel in more places....
That is pretty awesome, I would love it if they actually put it into production, I'd love to buy it if I were able to afford it. Maybe Zipcar could buy a few and put them around my city. Now if only it came in black, then i'd be one step closer to fulfilling my dream of being the monopoly man.
That is some seriousely messed up nastiness. I see Mercedes has some extra engineers they could fire.
F-cell - is that like Vitamin F?
er, Powdered Toast man
Too bad the real numbers behind this article are a speed of 25 km/h and a range of 350 km exactly. It would have been nice to report this in original units. There is a worldwide audience reading this, not just the one in the US.
The wheels are a nod to the first Mercedes Daimler-Benz
Do you really think quiche-eating yuppies who ask for Grey Poupon at stop lights will go for this? This looks like a rolling dildo on bicycle wheels. The "save the earth" crowd certainly isn't very imaginative. What's next? A Rolls Royce skateboard?
We care about this compared to helping Tesla make a cheaper car why?
I don't understand why companies are having issues making an electric car, If Tesla did it, why can't they follow suit?
Someone should inform the MB engineers that bike wheels (spoked) will fold when they turn their first corner. They may be vertically strong, but any lateral force will fold them like a potato chip.
If it's just a 3D rendering why not make up 300Mph and 10000 miles per charge I wonder, and it can do teleportation since you can download the picture and it magically appears a thousand miles away.
1.2Kw GREAT SCOTT!!!
