Looking to find out what's the better gaming experience out there right now --
Windows 7 beta or Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 -- the folks at
PC Perspective put both operating systems through the ringer with help from seven graphics cards running the gamut of price ranges. Overall, three
ATI Radeon HD and four
NVIDIA GeForce cards were pitted with six games and applications in one of the lengthiest benchmarking features we've ever read. AMD / ATI gets credit for being the first to release combined drivers that work on both OSs, and with one lone exception, performance on the Windows 7 machine was equal to or better than Vista. That said, the recomendations for each system is the same: ATI gets an advantage here for cards in the $120 to $130 range, but the competition is much closer as you start looking at more expensive models. Hit up the read link for technical details that you can shake an anti-aliased stick at.
Was this windows 7 Beta build 7000? The build that MS said wasn't ready to be benchmarked.
not to burst your bubble engadget, but ive been using proper nvidia win7 drivers at least weeks before ive read about ati launching theirs...
what about windows 7 performance comparing to windows xp?
XP is probably as tad faster. I'm running 7 and I'm not going back to XP. Vista was kinda crap, but this, this runs flawlessly. Support from major companies will slowly die-out for XP, so essentially you will be forced to upgrade to 7 anyway, which in all honesty isn't a bad thing, looking at how good the beta/RC versions run.
I'd be jealous if I wasn't already sporting an OCed GTX 285 at the moment.
-and gaming on my Corei7 machine running Win7 has been absolutely great, with only a couple of exceptions that I'm pretty sure are program based anyway.
Hey...why am I surfing tech blogs when I could be playing some Bioshock or something?
Gotta go.
Oh, that's why. (I'm ripping a DVD)
-as for the pic in the article: I'm ALREADY seeing that screen on my CURRENT gaming computer. Awesome.
Sorry kids, but I've NEVER EVER had the chance to build and own a gaming rig this far near the apex and I have to enjoy it for the 28 seconds that it has left to remain at this point.
I've seen similar articles on 3 other web pages - and the feedback is always the same - unless you include Windows XP DX9 vs. Vista vs. Windows 7 most people don't really get much from the article. You might as well compare Red Hat vs. Ubuntu performance specs - sure there are people running those OS's but compared to the majority - it is hard to gather anything that says that is better or worse than your XP performance.
I don't remember where but i saw a benchmark showing that windows 7 (for games) is slow than windows vista.
Also, i saw many benchmark showing that Vista is quicker than XP and in my experiencie it is not true at all.
So i am start think that MS is FUD the net with misleading benchmark.
Also, sometimes a specific driver will increase the performance but off the record, the performance increase is at expensive of stability and/or quality, speed is not everything.
would of been nice to see some test results....
seconded
Im playing GTA4 and Fallout 3 on my laptop's 8400 GS running windows 7.
yea.. that was completely impossible with Vista.
this seems very promising indeed. hopefully ms takes their time with this and makes it a better alternative than to just downgrade.
headline: "XP beats Vista!" - I would friggin hope that 7 beats it to. - i still contend that 7 needed to be a ground up rebuild (as mac OSX was). get rid of all the shitty old legacy code. grown up and step into the now already. I'm tired of having to use google products to fix all of my windows problems. MS should be fixing them.
