Apple announces WWDC 2009 dates; iPhone, Snow Leopard countdowns begin
Here we go: Apple's just announced that its Worldwide Developers Conference will take place June 8-12 in San Francisco. If you'll recall, last year's WWDC was where a little gadget called the iPhone 3G made its appearance, and we'd say chances are good we'll see new hardware this year as well -- especially since there'd be no bigger way for Steve Jobs to make his planned June return to the company. Also on the list of expected attendees? Snow Leopard, possibly with a revised interface. It should be a big one -- you know we'll be digging for all the info we can get in the leadup, so keep it locked.
Update: Jobs said he'd be out until the "end of June," of course. Still, we've got a feeling he'd want to be involved in any iPhone hardware announcements. We'll see!

I JUST SH*T MYSELF!
Also shame it's so far away, time which will be drawn out by inevitable "rumour" and "breaking" posts about what might be mentioned by yourselves.
trevor @ Mar 26th 2009 2:42PM
ew... chocobo poo......
Indyaner @ Mar 26th 2009 3:21PM
@Trevor
Why do you guys always know the names of the pokemons? Am I to old or the average age on engadget so low?
Derbeste @ Mar 26th 2009 3:23PM
Indyaner...
Chocobos are not Pokemon. They are the default mount for almost every single Final Fantasy game ever made.
Yes....you just dated yourself hardcore.
Ranio @ Mar 26th 2009 3:34PM
Geeze I'm about to turn 40 and I knew that FF has been around forever.
Chocobos are like Emus, they get you from place to place very quickly.
You ride them!
On with the repetetive diruption....discussion.
Indyaner @ Mar 26th 2009 4:00PM
shame on me I only know FF from one of its movies.
utahnkid @ Mar 26th 2009 5:21PM
You're obviously not TOO old TO learn proper spelling! ;)
-grammar nazi
mike @ Mar 26th 2009 9:24PM
@Derbestre
I'm guess the closest thing to a 'mount' you've seen in a while is, in fact, a Chocobo?
Get back in your hole.
iphonerulez @ Mar 27th 2009 3:08PM
OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG, OMG! I can't wait for that four-inch OLED HD display, multi-core chip, with HSDPA running on the iPhone. By then, there'll be 50,000 apps and I'm gonna download ALL of them to my 64GB iPhone 3.0 geniusphone (it's gone beyond just smart). I guess the rest of the handset companies are going to start producing electric shavers or something before they go out of business.
I just knew the iPhone was going to take over the U.S. smartphone market share and I'm gonna see it in just a few scant months.
dburkizzy @ Mar 26th 2009 2:10PM
Why are they using a 1G (not to be confused with 3G cellular capabilities) iPhone in the promo?
oneMadRssn @ Mar 26th 2009 2:14PM
maybe because the 3rd iphone (this iphone '3'g shit is about as confusing as the vista ready sticker was) will bring the look and style of the 1st one. the current one is a bit too bloated and soap-y.
Tom @ Mar 26th 2009 2:15PM
actually there using a 3g.
check the top toolbar it says "AT&T 3g"
Cameron @ Mar 26th 2009 2:22PM
It is an iPhone 3g...the volume buttons on the side are chrome, not black
benricemccarthy @ Mar 26th 2009 2:21PM
As far as i know the fronts of both phones are identical but the volume buttons and silent switch are all silver on the iPhone 3G. And it says 3G in the carrier display
Michael @ Mar 26th 2009 2:26PM
The 1st Gen iPhone had black volume buttons. The current iPhone has chrome volume buttons. So its safe to assume that the phone in the promo is in fact the 2nd Gen iPhone.
KarlW @ Mar 26th 2009 2:42PM
Who cares?
pina @ Mar 26th 2009 3:40PM
The iPhone 3G also has a slightly wider black bezel around the screen whereas the 1st iPhone's screen is basically flush with the chrome trim... So that phone is indeed an iPhone 3G
gdxk @ Mar 30th 2009 9:46AM
going by the mock up they're using (no labels on icons, label free dock) some of the folks in cupertino are partial to a jailbreak.
claudiosalvia @ Mar 26th 2009 2:10PM
WOHOOOOOO!!!
lax @ Mar 26th 2009 2:10PM
totally cannot wait!!
my phone contract finishes in june so all the new phones coming out gives me crazy choices
skyblaze @ Mar 26th 2009 2:30PM
skyblaze doesn't do contracts. he buys his phones full price and gets the newest swag everytime something great pops up. then he gives his "still kinda new but now not used" phone to his lil sis who he loves to death.
devi @ Mar 28th 2009 2:42PM
same here, i realy hope for new hardware revision
holycow @ Mar 26th 2009 2:11PM
I think it'll be an iPhone Nano or something like that.
enz1ey @ Mar 26th 2009 2:11PM
Can't wait to see how the new iPhone tops the old one.. if that's possible...
tyler @ Mar 26th 2009 4:26PM
They should just call the new one iPwn
Joe @ Mar 27th 2009 4:38AM
Better camera and OLED screen?
Either way, it'll probably be the point at which I jump on board the iPhone Bandwagon.
who? @ Mar 26th 2009 2:11PM
Woot! I'm going! Now... Back to the Woot Off!!!!!!!!
Christian Martin @ Mar 26th 2009 2:44PM
You and your Shiraz that needs to get the hell off the screen have a good time!
who? @ Mar 26th 2009 4:13PM
Wtf? Anger management not working out for you or something?
Mike Johnston @ Mar 26th 2009 2:12PM
Pre-ordering two new iPhones (in my mind) as I type .
rHrHrHrH @ Mar 26th 2009 5:22PM
Maybe the keyboard will be less shitty this time. =]
chris @ Mar 26th 2009 2:12PM
Expecting anything new at this event like a touch screen Mac Book or iMac?
liamf555 @ Mar 26th 2009 4:52PM
No. This is wwdc. Software only usually. (iPhone and mac pro exceptions)
Flaystus @ Mar 26th 2009 2:13PM
aaaaaaahhhhh YEAH
Magallanes @ Mar 26th 2009 2:26PM
Definitely happening:
Higher-res screen
Not really, a hi-ref screen is more expensive and eat a lot more resource, also its break the compatibility with many programs.
Iphone lack of a decent camera, i think it is the missing feature in comparison with the rest of (smart) cellphones of the market, over 4 megapixel with autofocus/macros/flash will be fine.
bernardino @ Mar 26th 2009 3:13PM
@Magallanes
FAIL!
pina @ Mar 26th 2009 3:44PM
@Magallanes
I used to have a phone with a 3MP and autofocus camera, but my iPhone takes way better pictures than my old phone ever did... I don't understand why people think more mega pixels means a better picture
TareX @ Mar 26th 2009 2:13PM
Definitely happening:
Higher-res screen
May be expected:
Front cam for iChat (as At&t roll out the service)
Relative big bang:
OLED screen (50% sharper, brighter.... better battery life...etc)
Even better:
OMOLED screen
Big bang:
Tegra-like processor
Saad Rabia @ Mar 26th 2009 2:28PM
I also expect Jobs to make an appearance, within the audience though.
r3loaded @ Mar 26th 2009 3:13PM
It'd be awesome if he walked on stage from the audience and said, "Boom!"
Jakob @ Mar 26th 2009 4:20PM
Why do you expect a higher res screen? Wouldn't that mean 15.000 broken apps?
Would love to see it though, and a OLED screen - come to MAMMA!
TareX @ Mar 26th 2009 5:33PM
They won't be broken apps. The normal HVGA apps would just stretch to fill all pixels.
We're not talking about the camera here, we're talking about the screen... the iPhone screen. It can't be HVGA while evreyone has moved on...
OLED/AMOLED will be a lot more battery friendly.
chris @ Mar 26th 2009 2:14PM
Can we expect anything new at this event like a touch screen Mac Book or iMac?
pina @ Mar 26th 2009 3:50PM
Well engadget has like 324907829 articles on the rumored Apple netbook, so maybe...
MJZimmer88 @ Mar 26th 2009 2:17PM
how about one of those front-facing videocameras for live videochats on the go?
... ive been looking for a new thing to distract me from watching the road while i drive
=D

Joe @ Mar 26th 2009 2:24PM
The return on Jobsy AND two new iphones AND maybe a touch screen device. Better than Christmas :-)
