Do you need to drive more than 160 miles without a 4 hour break? Then don't get the car. I drive maybe 300 miles a WEEK with lots of 4 to 8 hour breaks for recharging. Yeah it's $57,600 - $7,600 tax break: That's a BMW 5-series. Sure the BMW will go 280 miles before it needs fuel, but if you cna afford $57,000 for a vehicle, you can buy a cheap Acura for $20,000 when you need to drive farther in a clip.
Wait a second, I'm supposed to drop $57k (+ tax, registration, licensing, upgrades) AND buy a $20,000 Acura for those times where I might need to drive for more than 2 hours without having the luxury of pulling over and recharging for 4.5 hours? Wow.
I'm all for electric cars but they have got to come down in price. Not a lot of folks out here today can plop down $80k for the solution recommended by MadMike.
There are a lot of E-Class/S Class, 5/6/7 Series, A6/A8, Lexus (GS/LS), not to mention the expensive SUVs, etc.. sold in the USA each year. This car is certainly within reasonable range for someone who could afford any of those cars. Thats not to say it will be affordable for "avg joe", but you'd be surprised how many 50k cars you see driving around...

It does not have a $50K base price. It costs $57,500, and there is a tax credit. And that's for 160 mile range. This is a very expensive car.

Why do I need to buy two cars when there are single cars that can fulfill my needs better?
When you try to tell me how affordable this car is by comparing it to a BMW 5 series, something is really out of whack.
