Microsoft's new ad shows how people shop for computers in the real America
Microsoft's latest ad -- a companion-piece to its new "Laptop Hunters" website -- stars "real person" Lauren. Lauren's a little funky, a little folksy, and 100 percent real. She doesn't have an agenda to push, she's just out in the world, living in "reality" searching for a sweet laptop that's under $1,000. She admits to herself she's "not cool" enough for a Mac (though cool enough for a Volkswagen) and gets on with her life. She's a real American -- with an unpretentious, pragmatic life. The ad rather smartly puts the focus on our current economic climate, while expertly reinforcing that age old Apple-user-as-dick stereotype, pejoratively wielding the word "cool" as an underhanded insult -- odd, since the Microsoft portal it wants you to visit helps "socialites" pick a laptop. All in all? It's kind of a brilliantly mean piece of work -- check it out after the break.

The commercial doesn't lie it's true that Apple hardware is more expensive then you're standard hardware, but you pay for something that you like. I bought my 24" iMac cause I wanted it and not because I'm on a budget. If that was the case I'm sure I would've bought something else like that $600 pc that can apparently play Crysis, and comes with the game.
!
This ad is more true than you Mac fanboys want to believe. Mac always have been expensive since back in the " Think Different" day. Anyone remember those days, guess they are gone.
This ad goes work for the average consumer and not the Fanboys. People buy lots of items based on looks.
This ad is true, if you want to buy a cheap computer, you'd better buy a dell or HP,... but... does it fit on the mac vs windows competition? hardware vs software?....
The bottom line is that, hp is cheaper than a mac..., and mac os X IS CHEAPER THAN VISTA
i love how it doesn't show her using it
Best Buy would never let her leave that store without Geek Squad Black Tie Protection and at least an optimization, and where was the tax.......commercials......
First, does anyone find it odd that Microsoft is putting out a commercial that doesn't sell Microsoft products? This is a "get-the-biggest-computer-I-can-for-the-least-amount-of-money" ad, not Windows. Windows does some cool stuff, and they should push that! The "I'm a PC and I'm 4 and a half" ad was brilliant. Show the features, show that those features are easy to use. That's why the Mac vs. PC ads were effective. "Mac" pretty much said "Hey, PC, I can do X job, can you?" People learned that Mac had features.
Microsoft is a software company, why are they sending out actors... sorry, "real people" to buy computers? They need to SELL SOFTWARE.
I'm not against well made, accessible computers for everyone. There is a market for lower priced (and lower quality) computers. SOme people want one they can use for a year. Some want one they can take to work and not worry about spilling coffee on it or filling it with sawdust on a construction site. These $600-700 laptops are for them. For people wanting quality components, valid/serviceable warranties, and more, these laptops are not for them.
Microsoft, however, is getting a little deceptive in this ad. First of all, that woman didn't even go in to an Apple store. Did anyone else notice the bald guy walking towards the store when she walked in, and was still walking towards the store when she walked out? And, according to the AP, she is an actress from LA, not a "real person".
hp puts in giant hard drives. But they are slow, and lack the sudden-drop protection circuitry of macs and lenovos. And they have 1/4 of the cache of lenovo and Mac drives
802-11g and megabit ethernet? Am I buying an 18 month old clearance product?
hp ships graphics cards that are not even listed on the makers website anymore. They are EOL'd... maybe I am buying a clearance product...
hp Bus speeds are slower
hp lacks LED backlighting
hp lacks battery life. 2.5 hour rating on a 17" screen is pathetic, considering most ratings are overblown, it probably gets less than 2 hours. hp ships 6-cell batteries standard. Dell 17" is rated 3.5-4, and the 17" MPB realistically gets 6-7 (and it's rated for 8!)
hp is 75% thicker, and 50% heavier than a 17" MBP (of course, it's 30% of the price, so...)
hp lacks digital audio
hp lacks resolution (really, a 17" HP has the same res as 15" Macs and 14" Sony's)
hp lacks multi-touch trackpads
hp lacks iLife, which is consistently rated as the easiest photo and movie editing/organization software out there (and that's Consumer Reports, ComputerWorld, and PC mag, not me...)
hp lacks warranty. 90 days? really? I get a year with Apple, and can buy more that doesn't require some "geek squad" to take my computer away for three weeks to say they can't fix it. (actually happened on a Gateway I had the warranty on...) I've had Mac issues, but they were always either fixed on site, or OVERNIGHTED to the service center. For $300+ warranties, as the Apple Care and BB Extended warranties are, you should overnight them!
hp comes with tons of bloatware, that has to be removed instantly. And virus, backup, and ISP popups. Who wants that?
hp has Windows... I'm a Mac user, but not fanboy. The windows registry is a joke teetering on the edge of disaster. People complain about not being able to run new Mac software on older PPC platforms, but I'm OK with that. It means the new software is leaner and faster. On a related note: I also don't expect my DVD player to play my VHS tapes.
I'm going to debunk your stupid post for you:
1)quality components: Mac has just as many issues with parts as PC, only difference is they exchange more hassle free, part come from the same china company
2)lacks LED backlighting: The only reason you’d want this if you’re a hippy, most don’t have two shits how their screen is lit
3)hp Bus speeds are slower: What’s this? The new Core i7’s are only in PC’s? Ouch Mac, oh well, try again. And PC’s where selling the Quad-Core before Apple was.
4)hp lacks battery life. 2.5: Try a 6cell battery numb nuts.
5)17" MPB realistically gets 6-7: Only if it has a 6+cell. See post #4
6)hp lacks multi-touch trackpads: Ah no… Windows Vista lacks it, not the brand. Windows7 will have it, if you really care about that. Most poeple use something called a Mouse.
7)hp lacks resolution: That’s all personal opinion. No fact their.
8)hp lacks iLife: Because it’s a PC! Would you like them to dual boot osx on it for you? Many of the new PC come with Microsoft Works that’s a scaled down MS Office. And there are free things like Open Office.
9) hp lacks warranty: Incorrect. All HP computers come with a default 2 week return policy, no questions asked and a 1 year warranty parts and labor.
10)hp comes with tons of bloatware: Incorrect. Most all do not, ie not 100%. My HP I bought this year came with none.
11)I'm a Mac user, but not fanboy: No, you are most clearly a fanboy.
@ tank:
1) "quality components: Mac has just as many issues with parts as PC"
Absolutely false. Apple products are constantly rated best in quality and durability. This is exemplified by how happy and pleased Mac users are with their purchases.
- American Customer Satisfaction Index ranks Apple as #1 year after year.
"Apple defies the industry by moving in the opposite direction and posting its largest gain ever to 85, a new all-time high for the industry. The 8% leap puts 10 points between Apple and its nearest rival, one of the largest gaps between first and second in any industry measured by ACSI."

- ChangeWave ranks Apple as #1 in customer satisfaction:

Production glitches do not mean wholesale quality deficiencies you tard.
2) "hp lacks multi-touch trackpads: Ah no… Windows Vista lacks it, not the brand. Windows7 will have it"
Yes HP lacks multi-touch trackpads. Vista may lack support for multi-touch but when Win7 adds support for it it will not be capable of the sophisticated abilities built-in on every new Mac laptop: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VeAOK8Rxoo
Besides, HP nor most laptop makers will bother adding multi-touch pads.
3) "hp lacks resolution: That’s all personal opinion. No fact their."
Wrong once more troll boy. Her screen sucks big time and that's no personal opinion. Some facts here for you:
Her HP 17-inch screen has 1280x800
MacBooks (13.3-inch) have 1280x800
MacBook Pros 17-inch have 1920x1200 (thats true HD capable)
4) "hp lacks iLife. Many of the new PC come with Microsoft Works that’s a scaled down MS Office. And there are free things like Open Office."
He is talking about iLife you tard, not iWorks. Also, everyone knows MS Works is garbage dumps it and installs MS Office. By the way, Open Office is available on the Mac as well. So yeah, HP lacks the extremely useful and productive iLife package, with such things as photo management with built-in face recognition.
You claim you're a Mac user, yet you do not know the difference between iLife and iWorks. You don't really have a Mac.
Apple will make a fortune if they reduced the price for Mac.
The only thing stopping most PC users is the price tag.
cardinal rule of business...
if you give a inch, customers will take a mile.
Seriously, Bently could sell more cars if they lowered the price. But, a Benty at a lower price ain't a Bently anymore. The best thing about a Bently is that most people are too broke-ass to have ever seen more than one in their entire lifetime. Much less afford one.
You lower your prices and you PERMANENTLY lower your worth.
sorry dude, but I just don't think you are cool enough to be a redhead person.
Just an observation at this point, and totally off topic, but I'm going to look back and do a little comparisons... Right now, it's a totally unscientific observation.
Whenever a Mac vs. PC debate breaks out here, there are a few things that you can count on. For the purposes of this, I will refer to the two camps by the name of the "friendly" failures of their respective histories. Windows fans will be "Bob" and Mac Fans will be "Lisa"
Bobs tend to use more ambiguous screen names, usually a string on numbers and letters that approximate a word. Lisas tend to use actual names or nicknames.
There are more spelling and grammatical errors in the Bob posts. This may be to the fact that Bobs are more international, and also (according to Windows themselves...) available to lower income and the less educated. (Don't read into that, people. It's just true that lower income people are more likely to use windows because of cost. It's not a social "mac-people-are-smarter" commentary. Windows is just more accessible)
Bobs tend to use more foul language, and more derogatory monikers towards Lisas. (see iTard, iSheep, iDiots..)
Bobs tend to trash Lisas both for their computers and their (assumed) personalities, habits, and tendencies. Lisas tend to trash Windows, not the users of windows.
Bobs say "we're cheaper, and have more options", Lisas say "of course it's cheaper to buy a plastic laptop instead of one milled from a solid block of aluminum."
Lisas say "it just works" Bobs say "it does everything I need it to do, and I can get 60 FPS playing Crysis!"
Lisas overestimate the actual value of Macs. Bobs underestimate the actual value of Macs.
Even Bobs who don't like Vista love XP, and tout new features and stability in Windows 7. Lisas rarely mention Snow Leopard or Tiger.
Both Bobs and Lisas have stories about successes on their side and disasters on the other.
There are no winners or losers. There's no right or wrong. Buy what you like, and use what you need.
OK, so... you want us to call you Lisa?
"1) "quality components: Mac has just as many issues with parts as PC"

Hmm....
http://www.pcworld.com/article/162091/asus_takes_top_spot_in_reliability_report.html
Look! I can quote link too!
Your Mac is made of pretty much the same components as any other high end laptop. Deal with it.
@Mark Anderson
First, let me commend you on using your name (if that is your name :->). So many people here hide behind the anonymity the internet provides to make douche comments without responsibility.
Second, you are right. My Mac has NVidia graphics, Intel processors, Crucial RAM, and a Samsung Superdrive... The same stuff available that may be in that Asus you linked, as well as a hundred other computers. That's not the point. (PS< you responded to the wrong thread, but I know which post you're quoting...)
We can quote links all day about hardware specs, speed comparisons, and all that. But I haven't found one non-commercially sponsored survey that is scientifically accurate (i.e. large geographic, demographic, and socio-economic sample) that says people enjoy using Windows more than they enjoy using Macs. I love my Macs. I used to be anti-Mac. All my roommates in college had Macs (of course, this was the mid-90's) that were a pain to use, constantly crashing, and super-expensive. Windows 95-98-XP transitions all went flawlessly for me. Now, I've ben Mac only for almost 4 years, and I'll never look back.
My computer life used to be about specs, upgrades, inexpensive components, and bug-release-Thursday (or whenever it was...) Now, it's about a computer that works when I need it to, for as long as I need it to. My MacBook Pro is thin and light enough to go in the side pocket of a laptop bag, and I put books in the laptop part. You can't do that with most Windows machines. If I need a part, which i have fully admitted above that you occasionally do, I can call Apple and say "I have a 2006 Macbook Pro. The bluetooth is dead" and they will send me a bluetooth card to stick in. With my Gateway, it was a 30 minute conversation with serial numbers, model numbers, what-version-of-Windows-are-you-using?, and more.
I pay more for Macs because of the entire experience. I don't think they have better hardware, I think the same hardware works better because Leopard is optimized for a small subset of PC hardware, it's not trying to support 300 video cards, it supports the 5 they use.
To me, it's not about cost, it's about Value. I'll pay more for that.
OMFG.....
Where to start, has anyone here ever shopped with a non-techsavy person before?
Shes has done what every person I've shopped with has done.
You all have been knocking the battery live, but she can easily get 1 1/2 to 2 hrs outa it. More than enough for the average person.
Screen resolution, one word document open at a time / IM and the screen size is obviously for usability purposes and DVD Playback.
I know of no laptop in this day and age that comes with 1gb of ram or less other than netbooks.
She also went for the spec sheet with the most items and the biggest numbers. Basic consumerism 101.
Apple fanboys, shut the hell up!!!!!
The "cool" comment she was mentioning was obviously something she regurgitated after reading/hearing it somewhere.
Windows Vista is solid. 90% of my customers have been unable to break Vista once a good antivirus was installed (Norton 09) and I have had few or no complaints.
PC manufacturing quality in the past was just as good as Apple's however with the move to cut costs there are a lot of cheap PCs out there but there are also better built systems available (Voodoo, Dell XPS/Adamo, Alienware, HP's higher tier systems). The end point, with PCs there is a system for every budget and need. Just like the iPods; a size and storage for every need. It just so happens that in the case of Personal Computers, Microsoft and its OEMs managed to grip that market quite quickly leaving Apple with no room to grow without spreading themselves too thin and making themselves all to vulnerable.
All in all, the fanboys are defending their true loves to their inevitable end, ATM I'm getting my chops wet on Linux Mint which has become my goto Linux Distro.
Seeeya
Wow, while good in theory, this commercial is not without a few flaws. The problem with windows computers is build quality, which is associated with manufacturers, not necessarily microsoft. My boss has a 3000$ business HP, which BSOD's quite often, even after the on-site hp tech repairs it...Nothing against HP's, but it happens.
2nd thing, a few people on this board noticed this already, but, how many people are ganna know what those specs mean, they just want something to get their stuff done. This goes for mac and pc users. Average users wont know the diff between the different wireless bands. My university uses 802.1X wireless... most of the students have no idea what that means, they just want to connect and be on their way...
This the message that the commercial encompasses, as she said, she wants something affordable as well, unfortunately/fortunately, mac isnt always the case...
Conficker alone is one reason not to own a Windows PC. Yeah, it can be avoided with AV software but the fact that such a disaster even exists is one reason I'm fed up with Windows.
Okay, everybody here has very valid points....
But, did anybody notice how cute that Lauren is?
Rare to see a good looking red-head. But, I honestly doubt that she is a "real person". After all it is a commercial.
Man, shes good looking..
are they payon people to buy PC? howe low is tat hehehee.
Wow, Microsoft is REALLY threatened by Apple.
I am typing this on a year old HP Pavilion tx2000, which I have used EVERY DAY for the last year for my job (Photoshop). Behind me is a year old HP Pavilion desktop which belongs to my husband (gaming rig). In the corner is my two year old HP Pavilion desktop, which I use for heavy duty graphics (Photoshop, etc). In my daughter's room is a four year old HP Pavilion laptop. That's four HPs which run perfectly fine and are awesome machines. I'll never get a mac. Why? Because mac people ARE obnoxious with their whole: You do graphics? You should get a mac! cult like statements.
Oh. And I also drive a Kia. We have two. I'm sticking with my HPs and Kias. Cars are for getting you from here to there. Computers ... the same.
"One little ad and now all the Mactards are falling over themselves trying to prove everything wrong."
Dude, this ad was really defensive.
All it did was illustrate the impact that the apple marketing war machine is having on overall PC sales.
Literally five years ago, Microsoft wouldn't have even MENTIONED Apple in one of its ads. Much less single it out.
That's like Apollo Creed giving Rocky his FULL attention at the beginning of Rocky I. But, by the END of that movie, Apollo KNEW to respect and fear Rocky as a fighter, even though he won the bout.
Now, Microsoft KNOWS who Apple is.
Wile I will be the 1st to admit that the DV7 is NOT equal to a mac book pro 17, anyone that believes that is a pure fan boy. But I do believe that is a better fit for the customer. It is a solid mid-end system that will me more then acquit for most peoples PC uses for the next 3-4 years. If you want to look at total cost of ownership of a laptop like this (lets use BB services seance that's where she bought it)
System $699 + 3 year ADH $299 + 3 year Premium Security (with virus removal) $289 12 cell battery $189 add some soft Office $119, and Photoshop / Premier Elements $149, lets not forget a nice bag $89 and wireless mouse $49, Wireless router $79 and wireless Printer $89 and Geek squad wireless network setup $159, and how about a good digital camera $249 (4year ADH) $89 Case $24 Mem card $24 witch adds up to about
$2,695
vs 1 Mac Book Pro 17 @
$2,799.00
So yea your only saving a $100 :P
I'm a computer service department manager, plain and simple people, no laptops break more often than HP's. There receant stuff is garbage, thats not to say that she couldn't have got a dell or even MSI say for a similar price, but this just struck a particularly bitter cord with me.
the funny thing is that they require you to download the "silverlight" virus to view the ads on their site...so, guess not many folks are going to view it!
Silverlight is a virus? Please tell me you fill the Mac pool.
She really didn't explore the true range of what $1,000 can buy you at Best Buy in terms of 17" laptop...you can get much more value for your buck if you know what the hell you're looking for. Once again, trust the chick to buy the 'pretty' laptop.
Haterrrsss!
Heh, while I admire the people who did the research, and discovered just how underpowered and feature-lite the HP is, I'm afraid that does not matter. Just as it did not matter how well the Vista upgrade went for the majority of Windows users, Apple were still able to parley the common belief that it was a disaster, in their ads.
This is the first time I've seen MS advertising that could work. But it is a terrible time for that company to be getting it right - although they are trying to leverage 'the current economic climate' in the ad, the fact remains that the climate will significantly drop new computer sales.
One also has to wonder who the target is. Ads like this are not trying to make existing purchasers feel happy (what would be the point), they are trying to drive new sales by people who would not normally have bought a PC. And I think that although the ad looks yummy to someone who already believes the notion (well, lie) that Macs are overpriced, it does not appear to me to be likely to convince many of those who are thinking of getting a Mac, that they should get a PC instead.
A lot of new Mac purchasers are iPodders, they want to buy a computer with the same logo that is on their flashy white music thingy, thank you very much. They will not be convinced by this ad, because price is not high up on their checklist.
Many other new purchasers are diligent purchasers - they research themselves and decide what system to buy. They will not be convinced by this ad, or any other ad. This is why Apple does not bother going after serious gamers in its ads - it knows they are diligent purchasers and will run away when they they do the research and see what graphics cards the Macs come with.
I reckon that this ad is aimed at people who really have no idea about computers and are suddenly prompted into buying one. These people would normally walk into any computer store (including Apple ones) and just buy something that kinda looks right. Think parents who are told to buy their child a laptop for school.
This ad will definitely work on that group if it becomes "common knowledge" that Macs are overpriced, and will stop many of them walking into an Apple store. But it confuses me still, for two reasons; one, that group is pretty small and not responsible for the majority of computer sales, and two, is this a time when that group will be buying? I would have thought that Christmas and back-to-school would be the right times to be trying to influence that group.
Anyway, after a one-sided fight for so long, it looks as though MS is serious about using advertising to both promote the brand and rubbish the opposition. I look forward to seeing Apple's response, and the MS counter-response.
I'm a PC, and I don't know sh!t about computers
You do realize that MSFT paid this actor to buy a PC. If MSFT gave me a grand to buy a PC I would, and then install OpenSolaris on it and run a ZFS2 back up system for my mac cluster. The REAL TRUTH is that MSFT must pay people to buy there shitty OEM computers. MSFT spent 60 Billion winning contracts in China, and then China installed Linux when MSFT wanted their monies back China laughed. MSFT spent 30 billion to crush the XOPC. Just saying, if msft wanted me to buy a PC, they would have to pay me.
Good ad from Microsoft, looks like they finally got it right. Hits Apple right where it hurts. But I'm not about to run out to buy an HP and dump my trusty Macbook Pro. Guess I'll be stuck with the "cool" crowd, huh?
MACBOOK 17" BASE CONFIG on Apple.com
2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Resolution Glossy Widescreen Display
Backlit Keyboard (English) / User's Guide
$2,799
Apple 17" MBP 2.6Ghz (base) = $2799
HP Compaq 8710w Mobile Workstation KA451UA#ABA (base/non-customizable) (Slower Ram on only 2GB, same screen res but not led bl, same cpu, vista biz,) = $3149
Ummm Yeah. I don't know, I think the PC is cheaper than a mac? hahahahahahahahahaha.
Even with the 2.93 Ghz Cpu the mac is cheaper, and better at $3099.
Good one. Your Macvision let you see she was indeed a user shopping for a laptop that fit her business needs. We definitely need more people like you pumping money into the economy.
I checked out this laptop at my local Best Buy. Personally I would never lug around something this big and heavy -- I mean, this is what they called portability in 1990. But if you are going 17 inches, the screen better be good. This one is not. It sucks. I defy anyone to actually open this laptop and check the viewing angles under a variety of lighting conditions. It is horrible. The single most important usability factor on a laptop is its screen, and so this is flushing $699 (plus the lifetime cost of anti-virus plus upgrading Windows) down the toilet. No other spec matters if the screen is this bad.
I'm using a 6 year old G4 iBook running Leopard that I bought refurbished for $450 1.5 years ago. I could probably sell it for the same price today. I used Windows computers most of my adult life and one thing Windows users know is that their 2-year-old PC is essentially worthless. So I'm not sure why anyone thinks PCs are cheaper. I spend way less owning Macs than I ever did owning PCs.
but mac users ARE generally pretentious d*cks...
as are people who make blanket statements
/irony
Surely all this does is highlight, to Apple and Microsoft, the fact that if Apple released and affordable 17" Macbook at around $800 Microsoft would be out of business in the notebook market??
After all, she wanted an Apple notebook first didn't she?
Oh, and when she is working/browsing she will regret the day she delays the security updates and ends up with a malware infection which turns he notebook into a spam node. Her ISP blocks her smtp access, she loses her warcraft/hotmail/bank details. Ends up out of pocket to a tech support company for them to rescue her data and reinstall her system for her. (hey, this isn't a bad thing you know. If no one used Microsoft OS's there are plenty of us out there that would have nothing to do)
I quite like the ad and what it suggests, and I'm writing this on a Macbook Pro.
Then again, I'm not the target market for that HP. For people looking for something that fits their budget and requirements, you can't deny you're going to get a better deal finding and buying a Windows PC. Especially when you get to things like screen size, and until relatively recently, a goddamn DVD-Burner as standard.
Pretty much anyone who's seen my Macbook has loved it. But once you tell them how much it cost, you get a few less interested parties. Like it or not, Apple computers are more expensive for a given set of specifications. The joke here is that until the switch to Intel, the fanboys hated talking about specifications, because pretty much everyone knew the Power architecture (especially in laptops) was a complete joke. Now all I see here are people trying to base a comparison on specs that the vast majority of consumers don't give two shits about. The shoe's on the other foot, and it doesn't fit as well as some would like, apparently.
First off...can i ask why microsoft is advertising for PC's when they don't even make them??? this is the stupidest thing ever. Why don't they compare software prices??? Why don't they compare customer satisfaction??? Why don't they talk about the number of people conficker could affect??? This is just stupid, senseless mud slinging. They're advertising for HP, not themselves. It's like comparing Wal Mart to a high end retail store with trained employees to help you get just what you need. HP computers are mass produced pieces of s****, why waste money on them??? Of course they're cheap, as wal mart has learned it's cheap to mass produce. But you can't seriously expect one of these bargain computers to hold a candle to a mac. In fact, the first time ol' fido runs past the table it's charging on and sends the whole damn thing flying, because it doesn't have a mag-safe charger, they'll be wondering if that 700 dollar computer looks so great. Good luck with that guys
How me a 17" Laptop from anyone that has up to 8 hour battery life. Is that thin, has a 1920x1200 LED backlit display Intel 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB DDR3 Memory, Bluetooth, wireless n,backlit keyboard, etc. Good luck.
Oh btw make it 999 plz.
Yea apple doesnt offer cheap computers, wanna know why? They don't want to sell shitty cheap computers. 40% of the low end computers we sell come back with defects. Maybe 2% of macs come back defective. R & D and quality control costs money. Screwing plastic together, not coming with restore discs, etc, PC's are just getting cheaper and cheaper and macs are getting better and better. This argument isnt going anywhere.
Of course this is right. I mean, the 17" Apple MacBook Pro costs $2,799!! There are plenty of sub-$1,000 Windows 17" notebook PCs though. And of course, price has been one of my greatest problems with Apple.
She is not a real person and i wouldn't say that this ad is 100 % real as claimed above. Here's the evidence:
She did not even enter the 'macstore' (apple store)! You can see the guy in a dark jacket walking past the store and reflection of the guy in a blue shirt approaching the store at the edge of the screen, as Lauren approaches the store. This is at 0:12 - 0:13. At 0:14, as she is walking away from the store, these two guys can be seen in the frame. Thus, she approached and turned back.
out of the box macs for video and audio, pcs for gaming and accounts
