Sega's Storm-G arcade experience puts the "g" in puking
An uncompromising vision of a future world dominated by roving, power-up-collecting bobsled gangs, Sega's new Storm-G arcade game puts a "spin" on things by rotating the rider a full 360 degrees in accordance with the action. It's not exactly the most immersive arcade experience ever produced -- at some point you'd think Sega would get tired of rolling people down virtual tubes -- but it does look pretty wild and stomach-wrenching. The folks at Akihabara News got to try it firsthand at Sega's Joypolis in Odaiba Japan, and found the experience rather exhausting. Check out the video after the break.

I was just laughing the entire time cause he sounded like Mario.
Wah-hoo
there are tons of games this would be fun to play with... wipeout for one.
..............lol. "Do a barrel role!" LOL!!!
OK, so you're playing the role of the barrel? Who's gonna be the sombrero?

They betta bring this to Six Flags Great Adventure........ I wud be dere all the time playing that with my season pass......
Ah, I remember my first time at Joyopolis. Played the Jurassic Park game a couple times, went to a (boring) haunted room thingy, looked at all the fancy new techno wonders, then me and my friend spotted amongst all these state of the art high tech arcade experiences, a House of the Dead 2 Arcade. And spent the rest of the time right there.
that was a nice story Jon. .......I like stories.
I'm gonna puke if I'm in such kind of keep-rolling thing...
That's sick.
This looks like a lot of fun. Although like many others I'm interested in finding out what each person's "job" is.
just like some ppl thought
if Engadget didn't mention Sega, i'd thought it was a Nintendo game...
It may sound semantic, but this isn't an arcade game - it's a VR ride. Sega's Joypolis is a VR amusement park, and all they have are rides like this.
The main difference (aside from the size) is that these are not mass produced. You can't go down to your local arcade and play this. You can only ride it at Joypolis. It's also obviously timed, you don't get to play it as long as you can depending on how good you are.
I highly recommend visiting the Sega Joypolis for anyone who travels to Tokyo; it is really fun. I was always skeptical of VR rides before going there, but it really made me a believer. This actually looks a little tame compared to some of the stuff they have - once you get over the inversion novelty, it doesn't look like much else happens. They have 360 degree wraparound rides there with all sorts of tactile feedback. My favorite ride they have is this hang gliding thing where you're really put into a life-size hang glider and then they drop the floor out from under you and blast you with 70mph winds as you race like 300 other hang gliders through a canyon. It's pretty wild.
I'm not impressed. As has already been said, Sega's R360 was much better than this since you could actually control it and that was back in the 1990s. Further, the actual "game" itself looks eerily familiar. I can't remember the name of it but there was a game back in the 90s from Namco (I think) where sat on the machine like it was a bike and you piloted a craft along a tunnel-track. The only thing that I remember was that you had a weapon called the "Shockwave" that would send a destructive pulse up the track. If anyone can remember the title of this game based on my rather crappy description then that would be appreciated.
It has no vibration or tilt. It only rotates on one axis. Fail.
I've tried better.
I want one, with an enclosed cockpit, and screens as my "windows" to the outside.
Keeps on dreaming about Iwar2, flight sim, racing games and X gameseries in such a thing :)
I played this game in sonic 2(I think) already you have to dodge spiked bombs and collect a certain amount of coins before you reach the end of the vibrant bob sled tunnel. oh yeah dont forget to have 50 or more coins at the save points.
I didn't notice the emotionless dude in the back until the last 10 seconds of that video. Typical.
I wonder if the corpse is always strapped to the back. I would feel like Luke Skywalker after R2D2 got shot.
It's gonna be okay, bud. I just have to destroy the Death Star, and then this will all be over.
sonic the hedgehog would be a nightmare on this thing...
How can this be a 2 player arcade game? Strange!
For those wondering, the two of you play as a team, you both need to steer at basically the same time and when it gets to the 360 flip parts both players have to hit the trigger buttons to "Link" and get the extra speed boost from the spin.
It's a co-op game, they have it set up with four different sleds for a total of 8 players.
