Ulysse Nardin's Chairman caught in the wild!
Sure, we've seen all those purtied up renders, but what does the Ulysse Nardin Chairman look like in the flesh? Well, they're keeping it under wraps pretty tightly at BASELWORLD, not letting photographers near it, but our friendly tipster Greg's phone "accidentally" snapped a couple pictures. He says there was no way to touch it or see it in action, but he was struck by the sheer enormity of the device. We're looking forward to selling a few organs for a shot at one ourselves, but for now those two shots up top will have to suffice.
[Thanks, Greg]

Not as nice looking as the renders.
I thought "in the wild" mean "on the streets," or "in actual usage by a consumer." This is more like "in the zoo."
And thanks to this "Greg's phone", the KIRF $99 Version will be available in 24 hours...
Did anyone else read this article before the images loaded (I know, slow Internet) and think it was about an actual person who is a secretive chairman of ulysse nardin?
ur gonna love this one then.

Tacky looking. Like a generic KIRF phone.
it kind of has that motorola look to it with that round circular emblem on the top...
Engadget were never as pumped about those Vertu phones as they are about this one, i wonder why.
Because they were low-end Nokias with random bits of gold tacked on. This actually has a decent middle-high-end feature set.
Don't forget the diamonds.
Still ugly. Ulysse Nardin watches are not as pretty as IWC or Jaeger LeCoultre, either.
JLC watches under $10k look cheap compared to UN watches from the same price range.
That looks like a knock off of a 2003/4 sony ericsson, n not a good one either, why is it so good Engadget?
Actually on second thoughts its like a cheap kids fake phone that you'd find in an arcade machine across Blackpool's Broadwalk
With a 5mp camera and touchscreen?
Wonderfully crafted phones - I checked 'em on www.uncells.com recently and don't mind getting a feel of the price. I think these phones are well designed and exclusive - way ahead of the Vertu I presume.
Exclusive is right, and that's what you're paying for. Someone says that it's good and luxury so you buy it. Any of the mainstream smartphones on the market are a better device than this (judging from the specs released so far). Get an iPhone or Blackberry or any phone running Android/WinMo and you have a better device than this. Have fun tossing your money away on a phone because they stick gold and diamonds in it to make you feel rich.
@ dirtysocks
Don't worry. From the sound of it, Bobby won't be buying one anyway. With that kind of rhetoric, I'd put money on Bobby being a Ulysse Nardin employee.
@ Bobby
It doesn't matter how "wonderfully crafted" it is when you can get more function from a Blackberry or something at a fraction of the cost. Or when you drop it. If you AREN'T a Ulysse Nardin employee and are actually considering buying this phone, do yourself a favor: just buy a normal smartphone, donate the difference in cost to a charity, and quit frontin', fool.
Just another overpriced trinket for the super-rich. I can't say I even find it attractive with all the gold, and the winding internals on display, like that.
I actually called in to ask for the price, you can order the Chairman now with a 1k deposit.
The official price is in Euro, depends on different model it range from EUR 15k ~ 25k...
Some richie can go for it.... do the math for their revenue.....
1800 * 20k (average) = 36000000 * 4 (for the 4 different models) = 144000000
EUR 144 million.... = 191 million USD (with March 27 exchange rate)........
I would love to know how much it actually costs them to make the total run
The Walrus,
They will be making big money on these phones. Luxury goods have a typical markup of >= 500%. Even if it cost them $3K to make each phone, which I doubt, they would still be making a huge profit.
To, Smart People play Tuba
I quite liked the phone - who said I wanted to buy one - I am sorry I am not an employee either but I have seen a Vertu. This phone is for accessorising yourself. The functional features aren't that great. I would rather have a Symbian S60 5th edition Nokia smartphone ( I am more of a Nokia fan) but as a collectors item I would splurge on something like the Ulysse - Its beautiful. Going by edward Si's price points - I'd say save money and start with changing your dirty old socks :-)

It's not too hygienic to use same phone for over 2 years. What is the point to waste money on branded phone to throw it away after few months of usage?
(unlike watches which may be used during few generations and kept in ass during hard times - just like in "Pulp Fiction")
I prefer Vertu if I choose something really pretty and expensive...
What would Frank have done?
Probably lightly butter a bagel (Low fat butter of course), take a lightly salted latte, but only drink it when it reaches 94 degrees, drop his poodle off at the parlour for a manecure, take the porsche to the bikini car wash before dissapearing up his own Vertu!
Pics don't do it justice. The gold one is so pretty. Kidney anyone?
