NES Advantage joystick modded for Xbox 360 use
This mod won't exactly help you much with Street Fighter IV or other button intensive games, but those that prefer to pass the time with the likes of Galaga or Xevious may want to strongly consider following the lead of our friend Mr. Pepsi Pants, and breath some new life into that NES Advantage controller collecting dust in your closet. Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a complete how-to available just yet, but the video after the break does demonstrate that this bridging of consoles is indeed possible, and no doubt simple enough for anyone with the necessary skills. What's more, it looks like an SNES Advantage mod is already on tap as a followup project, which should offer a bit more practicality while still maintaining some retro flavor.

i want this!!!
The sweet Pepsi pants or just the Advantage?
Why not just mod the original controller if you're going for retro?
The old NES brick has more of the nostalgia factor, but that's it. The truth is that it was a horribly uncomfortable controller. The Advantage and Max were much better.
*IMO
I didn't care for either the Advantage or the Max. But you're right, the original controller, with its hard, blister-causing edges, was not the most comfortable. It did get the d-pad right, though.
I suppose a better question, then, is "Why not just mod the original SNES controller instead?"
It's cool because it's an official NES joystick, but I had that when I was 10 and let me tell you, it made NES games harder, not easier.
Dear Engadget,
Please fix the comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We can't whether they are high ranked, low ranked or whatever else. I know this is true because if you click on the comments date, the comments work again.

It might help if you actually made sense in your plea. Use the comment's Edit button and revise it to be more coherent.
Oh wait.
Brings back very fond memories of the best controller I've used on any system. Period. Back to the days of turbo and crazy button mashing cheat codes for Contra - Gold Star to anyone who remembers the Contra code...
up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A.
You must not have used very many controllers, that thing was a piece of shit and one of the worst first party controllers ever. Its giant buttons would always get stuck and were really hard to press, even the joystick was crap because it wasnt even a joystick, it was like a dpad with a rod sticking out of it. Console joysticks outside of japan were garbage up until around the dreamcast came out.
Now THERE'S an Advantage!
Pepsi Pants????
I want those fucking pants
breathe*
this is great, I knew u could re-arrange controllers to work in new systems!
how completely pointless...
You know, I've made adapters that let me use a Saturn controller on the GameCube, Wii, Xbox 360, 3DO, and Super NES. Where's my friggin' Engadget article?
You don't have the cool pants that really make this news worthy.
Yeah, RC Cola pants don't seem to cut it.
I agree totally pointless, now if someone could mod an xbox controller to work on the PS3 I would be interested
Totally been done. You should check out the Benheck.com web site.
The one on benheck is mine it's the same one.
That is XBox360 controller, I know some of you might have other silly ideas lol
I own one of these. It has a "slow-mo" button. It just rapidly pauses and unpauses the game.
Oh yeah.... I remember that working better in some games than others.
Meh... Everything seems to pale in comparison to the Statue of Liberty NES Advantage Mod.

(Full clip, terrible audio but better view of modded NES Advantage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RVQB8LKcmw )
I'm not sure if he used the original connection, but as far as I know, the NES and SNES controllers are compatible with each other.
The NES and SNES used completely different controller ports.
Shame it's not a Super Advantage...
Nevermind, sleepy brain didn't register last sentence...
Doing that one next.
Best controller ever!
HERESY!!!!
