while there might not have been special training for the user, i'm sure there was a TON of training for the algorithm (probably a support vector machine) that was doing the classification. the question is, how big is the 'vocabulary' on the SVM? if it only has to distinguish right hand from left hand, then it is going to be in trouble when it tries to distinguish between shake hands and punch.
anyone notice that that was a left hand but actually said "right"?

I think all robotic engineers in Japan are Gundam otakus. Almost everything they do is just another step in the creation of a real life mobile suit. Technology like this is obviously designed to perfect human control of a robot/mobile suit in battle. Anything else is just an excuse.
