Samsung's 2009 Blu-ray player lineup officially priced
When Samsung's 2009 Blu-ray player lineup was outed at CES this year, all pricing and release date information was conveniently omitted. At long last, Sammy has pushed out the details we've been waiting for at its Spring Fever event in New York City. Granted, the BD-P3600 and BD-P1600 are already on store shelves for $399.99 and $299.99, respectively, but we figured it prudent to pass along those official numbers straight from the source. Of note, we're also told that the ultrathin BD-P4600 will indeed be coming in April for $499.99, and if Best Buy's website is to be believed, it'll be April 19th if we're talking specifics.

holy shit
give me a ps3 instead.
I currently use my PS3 for BluRay playback, but I'm still anxiously waiting the day that I treat myself to a brand new BD-P3600 with 7.1 analog outs. Mmmmm....
yeah seriously this makes me wanna buy a PS3 JUST for the blue-ray playback.
Note, to Samsung, TVs are about 5 inches thick nowadays and there is no way that you can put this pancake anywhere around a 40+ inch tv and have it all blend in.
@cg0def:
Its meant to be with the rest of your components....not blend in with a TV at all.
@cg0def: Samsungs new TV that this and the new soundbar match is about 1 inch thick... you have no idea what you are talking about.
Okay, back to the PS3 . . .
When all the PS3 bashing (in other recent posts) is done, it's still the best, most functional BD player out there, say what you want. We bought a PS3 about a year ago and have used it exclusively as a BD player . . . haven't bought a single game (though I've downloaded plenty of demos).
(So I guess you can blame us for Sony not dropping the price yet. Sorry, y'all . . . well, kinda sorry.)
I think they look pretty sweet.
Title should read "Samsung's 2009 Blu-ray player lineup officially OVER-priced"
I agree with this whole new line up being overpriced, but still, at least they are pleasing to look at.
hum there is no way that you can fit any of these in an already existing rack system since they all have top side controls. How does that deserve a $400+ price tag?
What is it with the peasants on here? I don't think $400 is a huge amount for a Blu-ray player, especially one that isn't a bland box to sit in my lounge.
If it doesn't suit YOUR needs that's fine, move along, nothing for you to see here.
it's not that it's over priced for that itself, but if you really want a blu-ray, you can go out and buy an external blu-ray drive for like half the price
rip - off
Pretty slick looking, but what's the deal with the one that looks like a half-sucked jolly rancher?
I will get excited when a BlyRay player comes out with Divx playback off of USB Mass Storage, CD, DVD, DVD-DL, and BluRay media, all for under $200.
(Yes I want BluRay media Divx support. I would like to put a whole TV series on a single disk.)
Yes the ps3 is cheaper but the ps3 does not offer analog outs. Which for many people is the only way to get the new audio formats into your surround sound receivers. Many hdmi receivers dont even decode the audio.
I for one am happy they have not bothered to clutter the backend, and potentially increase the size of the PS3 case and cost by adding a million RCA connectors to back of the thing. Simple HDMI or TOSLINK connectors are fine with me. I'd be happy to see companies begin to do the same to receivers.
why couldnt they have mad eit available through the special audio/video cable?
You cant get pcm 5.1 through optical and only the high end surround sound recievers process audio from the hdmi (alot just pass it on to the tv).
"Many hdmi receivers dont even decode the audio."
I thought the PS3 outputted UNCOMPRESSED PCM through HDMI, which means NO DECODER is needed for the receiver. Or am I wrong?
"why couldnt they have mad eit available through the special audio/video cable?"
I agree, if the AV Multi Out port on the back could support cables like this, it would be a nice addition.

True, but many without receiver-based HDMI decoding capabilities are quite happy with bitstream based 5.1 (http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=24132)
I would never purchase Samsung after using BDP1200. Extremely poor tech support.
Pretty little things.
Ripped the F Off!
Looks pretty sleek...but probably not worth money..!
Ok, what the hell am i looking at?
is that the remote? or is that the player? where's the disk go? in the Back? yea that's fun...
Or in the front, underneath... yea that's save for the disk
Seriously, i don;t get it, how big is it?
Get a photographer that can do a better job of illustrating your new product.
Everyone know Engadget can't photograph to save their lives.
I don't get it either. I guess there's pics of the two diff models, right? So that crazy thin red one...is that supposed to be mounted on the wall under the TV? Does the disc go in the side? Am I half way through designing the best BR DVD player evah?!?
Patent Pending! Patent Pending!
Give 'im a break! That's just Mr. Blurrycam trying out different styles.
Guess great looking Blu-Ray players under $170 aren't coming anytime soon.
where does the disc go?
pretty...
pay more get more!
I wish the touch of color was blue.
Blu-Ray has been out long enough now to be affordable. The prices on the players are still outrageous.
I'm all about blu-ray, but $29.99 for a stupid disc is preventing me from buying new ones in this economy.
WTF, this actually makes a PS3 look like a BARGAIN.
Fools.
