BlackBerry App World now live
As expected, the BlackBerry App World has just launched for US, Canada and the UK. If your software's updated to 4.2 and you've got a trackball / touch screen and PayPal account, head on over to RIM's website to download. Tell us, is it everything you thought it would be?

@ Cabbie: I have the same problem too, appworld is stuck in the downloads folder, and the BB button which would allow me to 'move folder' doesn't work when appworld is highlighted. what gives?
I have a Blackberry 8330 through work and never use it other than work-related things. I also own an iPhone 3G.
Now obviously this app store can't really hold a candle to the iPhone's app store, but it doesn't have to. I mean people that own Blackberries are usually business users, so they either have an iPhone (like me) for their personal cell phone, or just have no use for an entertainment-like phone.
Anyway, what I'm really trying to say is that compared to the old way of getting apps onto a Blackberry, this absolutely blows it away. Very well done RIM. You are making Crackberry addicts extremely happy!
I'm sorry. Maybe I've been using the Apple App Store too long, but it just seems to me that the apps offered in App World are insufficient in functionality and refinement. I have 99 cent apps on my Ipod Touch that have much more depth than apps I just purchased for my Bold today that cost me over 20 dollars. I really want this store to work because I don't want to have to buy an iPhone, but I'd be lying if I said this store offered apps even half as good as the Apple App Store.
Works great for anyone with a newer blackberry, but I have an older 8703e from bell. I have only had the blackberry for a year but because it has a trackwheel apparetly I can't use it.
I'm on a Bold. Downloaded the app and it just hangs there loading, eventually giving the error message "Local connection timed out after ~ 130000."
Not sure what the problem is. Tried it on wifi and straight 3G connection. Any ideas?
App World is great! I'm so glad to finally have it in my Storm!
Been waiting YEARS for this - no longer do I have to consider getting an iPhone this summer when they release the 'new' version that still doesn't have push email. Simply perfect so far, Bloomberg, Shazam etc... Well done Rim. Makes my .113 Storm the perfect device.
Too bad I have to use PayPal. No thanks.
Wow it's about time RIM!!! The features are great, even though I wished it would have been easier to navigate. iheartradio was a great app to find on their, plus it was FREE!!!! they had a couple of good ones
no doubt apple app store is better now. Probably will still be better in the future. Apple focus all the resources on 1 phone... I'm a Bold user... but looking at how fast iPhone updates I'd thinking of switching to next generation iPhone :( Tho BB Bold is amazing, just not as fun.
its gonna be hard to beat the apple app store
the Blackberry Appworld is definitely a dissapointment as compared to what i was expected, but hell, it just launched, it'll take them a while to get some pretty badass apps on there. It definitely does make it a lot easier to find everything now that all the apps are in the same place.
I have a work issued Storm and a Curve and a personal iPhone. If you want apps, don't bother with the BB...any of them. The app world isn't just overpriced, clunky and boring, it's also like a bare closet. None of the business apps that I have on my iPhone are available. In fact, my iPhone is way more of a business tool than either of my BB's. I'm excited for the new OS to come out for the iPhone adding a search feature that will blow away the BB search. This is going to really sum up the fact that there's absolutely no competition. Sorry BB lovers, it's just not there yet, and probably never will be......thank goodness the BB fanboys now have a fart app though! That's just great.
This sums it up. Totally:

The application is not bad.
I just cannot seem to find all the software that is in the app world. I would write Netflix in the search field and I get back no results found!
I think there is still to work on!!!! so far not that bad!
