President Obama offers iPod to the Queen of England
No, this isn't an April Fool's joke. President Obama met today at Buckingham Palace with the Queen, and our forward thinking commander-in-chief brought along a little tech for gifting purposes. Obama presented Elizabeth II with an iPod containing video from her 2007 visit to the States. In return, the first family received what is apparently a standard present for visiting dignitaries to the Palace -- a silver-framed photo of the Queen and her husband. At a glance, it seems like Obama has a thing for gadgets (and related media); he recently handed off a set of DVDs featuring classic American films to Prime Minister Gordon Brown... who was unable to play them due to incorrect region encoding. Regardless, the Queen appears pleased with the music player, telling the President during their 25 minute tea that she "Finally has something to listen to [her] Pantera records on."

really dude was that completely necessary?,fucking move then. I am so tired of people bitching...if you hate it here leave, go somewhere else better
I though she'd be a classic Queen fan!
booo
The Queen has had iPods since at least 2005, a quick Google would've told President Obama's people that.
Polite of her not to mention it really.
"Thank you Mr President, do you have the receipt too?" (The Apple Store London isn't very far away from Buckingham Palace.)
Man, the Pantera comment in the article cracked me up :D
"She's had an iPod since 2005"
What iPod has a lifespan of 4 years? The battery's worn out, the casing is scratched to hell, or it has inexplicably died by now.
I've had my iPod since 2005, and it still works. The battery life isn't what it used to be and sometimes it won't turn off (literally), but it still works.
Also still have my video iPod from 2005.
Ouch...that was painful Joe!
I bet she'll REALLY enjoy it when she tries to get the content off the iPod with iTunes ;)
Hey 'Hey Apples', don't misquote me to make some lame point.
The British press report that Princes William and Harry do the Queen's iTunes/iPod management.
Which makes me wonder ... do the British royalty say "I'm a PC" or are they of the Mac persuasion?
ah video ipod of 2005 . . . you started burning in the car one day. nothing like spinning disks.
I'm sure it was love at first sight for her. Not with Obama, but with the iPod. If he'd presented her with a Zune, we'd be at war with England by now. I wish Obama would present Bill Gates with an iPod. I'd love to see BG try and refuse it.
My iPod Video from late 2005 still works well in it's dock, but the battery life is down to about 30 minutes. Not a scratch on it. It's been in a silicone case and screen protector since day one. It's had to be reset about seven times since I've had it. Excellent device.
Hes just trying to convert her into another engadget troll..
give that bitch a zune! its on!!
The gift was the video, not the ipod. thats how rich people do it.

y not a zune????????exactly fail
Just because the Queen's had an ipod since 05 doesn't mean she doesn't care for the upgrade, jeez.
I personally would welcome any free new gadgets anybody wants to send my way even if I already have older versions.
True true she needed a new one, and she couldn't afford to buy one and nobody since 2005 would give her one and she has nobody to go get one.
I guess the recession is biting pretty hard in the Whitehouse too.
If only the queen was actually a Pantera fan! ROCK OUT!!
@ Paul A. Chapel
If your an Apple hater you obviously can not afford to be a Republican. Not to mention that Apple creates a better product yet you still go for the insanely difficult/buggy OS because your blinded by your hatred.
Funny thing is, Chapel is an Apple lover.
i totally LOLed when i read that... oh Engadget...
Queen Mum + Pantera = Headbanging WIN!
Amazing scenes...nice bit of research by the administration, she already has one...
Now she has two... and she didn't have to pay VAT to get this one!
Guess what she didn't on her first one since that was also a gift, but from Prince Harry...
Pantera !
What the article fails to mention is that the other half of the hardrive was filled with Ja Rule, Puff Daddy, and a never before released album from Tupac.
The unreleased Tupac of course being the special album commemorating the inauguration of Obama.
Please. Is there ANYTHING by Tupac that hasn't been released yet?
trip.. that was brilliant lol
trip, you sir, are a genius. too funny
This reminds me of the Chappelle Tupac skit: http://www.comedycentral.com/videos/index.jhtml?videoId=71416
"And although it seems heaven sent, we ain't ready to see a black president"
I imagine Her Majesty would have said "Something on which to listen to my Pantera records."
Probably not, she would have used proper english:
"Something *with* which to listen to my Pantera records."
-Taylor
Taylor? Is that you? Taylor? I'm not sure.
She would never had said my. She would says ones.
You both fail
"Something *with* which to listen to *ones* Pantera records."
Followed by:
"Oh hellloooo..."
Try:
"Something with which to listen to one's Pantera records."
and watch as DRM somehow figures out that the music has "jumped the ocean and" disables it all... >.
LOLZ =)
Here's another funny bit:
«At a glance, it seems like Obama has a thing for gadgets (and related media); he recently handed off a set of DVDs featuring classic American films to Prime Minister Gordon Brown... who was unable to play them due to incorrect region encoding.»
Maybe Obama will be going back to the States and demand that the industry cease and desist this whole region code shenanigan? If only...
I wonder if the Queen getting an iPod from the US was part of that gigantic stimulus package?
While I applaud President Obama on keeping an eye on consumer technology, I do think that I'd rather my tax money go to a school in my area, or a road that I drive on, or to fund some sort of public works - not to buy the Queen an iPod.
Schools are managed by the school districts(I believe a function of the cities... might be the states but definitely NOT the federal govt), roads are managed by the states. No taxes that were used to buy the iPod for the Queen came from either of those, or probably anything else that actually has a direct impact on you.
A $249 school?
@Mark
Interstae roads are managed by the federal government. Other than that, you are correct.
*Interstate
Could Obama have bought the Ipod with his own money? I doubt it but, it could have. He does get a salary and I think he had a few bucks before he became pres. I mean it's only $300 at the most.
