Samsung Mondi WiMAX hands-on with video

While we caught this at Mobile World Congress earlier this year, Samsung officially launched its WiMAX / WiFi Mondi at CTIA today. Samsung's SWD-M100 MID runs Windows Mobile -- and we have to say that it looks really polished -- with the transitions between homescreen panels being particularly stunning -- check the vid to see it in action. While thin, the popout lower lip keypad is a tough thing to use, the width of the keypad itself and the positioning of the d-pad make it all seem a bit awkward to use. We do like the 4.3-inch display, though suspect it may prove to be a tad power hungry once this gets a little more real on Clear's WiMAX network. Follow on for a short vid and a handful of pics of us playing with this big glossy thing.

Beatiful. Now only if WiMax could come to New York City.
don't worry.
wimax will be arriving soon.
i can't imagine it not being deployed in nyc.
i think the problem may be that deploying a wimax network in nyc would be really expensive, because in nyc the networks need to handle a high capacity of data.
same problem with los angeles.
Clearwire/Wimax announced the NYC launch would happen in 2010 but I would imagine if you've signed up in another city you'll be able to get spotty coverage as the build/test the network throughout this year (same thing has happened in Chicago for the last year).
er Clearwire/Sprint not Clearwire/Wimax :-P
I WANT A PANDORA.
It's a teeny tiny laptop. Do want.
Honestly, that's a pretty pretty device
Does it have the same processor as the Pandora, or the Archos 5.
Does anybody know which processor this device compares to??
CPU still unknown. Hopefully someone will find out soon because if it's a new ARMv7 core, it makes it pretty exciting.
i still hate winmobile interfaces- it just seems advert to touch this is 2009 i think it is time they move away from the start bar menu- just one complaint
the other special effects looked pretty awesome- I am surprised by how slow Wimax seemed
-also i do wish they would bring wimax to NYC
I think Microsoft realize this too. The drop down menu does look especially incongruous on this device. In WinMo 6.5 this has been replaced with the not-a-honeycomb launcher. The task bar on the top is also a notifications tray though, and I think that it is very useful in that sense.
Looks nice... but windows mobile? Does it also have Wifi 802.11b/g or just Wimax?
Yea right, a Mobile Internet Device that doesn't support Flash video....can this be true?
Archos rules MID's and Samsung, if you don't support Flash, why even bring it??
I refuse to belive that Samsung would try to push a mwdia oriented MID that does not support Flash.
Where did you hear this story? You just killed all my excitement at the possibility of finding a MID I could actually buy.
i don't really see a market for this.
i still love you samsung.
wimax, weak!foverpriced, fail!!!!ipod touch as low as $179,,be informed please, im here for the consumer.
You dumb person. Learn how to spell! I love my iPod touch, but your reasoning is idiotic. How can WiMax be weak? It's 4G and sometimes faster than WiFi (not free though)! How can it be overpriced if we don't know the price yet? And the screen is over an inch bigger, not to mention a front-facing camera, physical keypad and buttons, and an actually workable size (for a mobile internet device)! Go away, fanboy! The iPod touch and Samsung Mondi aren't even in the same category!
don't feed the trolls
Looks like a mondo huge HTC Touch Pro
bs
Amazingly attractive phone.
