ViewSonic ships 22-inch VT2230 1080p LCD monitor
Not ready to go big screen? Just need a medium sized set to handle your bedroom Xbox 360 addiction? ViewSonic's got a new one ready to splash down in your abode -- the 22-inch VT2230. Said panel checks in with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, VGA / HDMI inputs, a built-in ATSC / NTSC / QAM TV tuner and a relatively small price tag. Further specs include a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, five millisecond response time, 300 nits of brightness and twin 3-watt speakers. Sure, nothing mind-blowing or anything, but it's not half bad for $349.

.....however neither Xbox nor PS3 play at 1080P.....so there is no addiction , just more pixels for BD.
Loban @ Apr 1st 2009 4:40PM
You may want to check your facts.
Techie @ Apr 1st 2009 4:45PM
ViewSonic monitors keeps getting uglier and uglier. Man... what ever happened?
Shinigami @ Apr 1st 2009 4:46PM
Monitor = PC.
PC plays in 1080p as well as 1600p (2560x1600, XHD)
Andir3.0 @ Apr 1st 2009 5:10PM
I have a few games on my PS3 that are in 1080p...

LOL!
I'm guessing you never played on an Xbox360 or PS3 before.
Maybe a Wii!
LOL
Xbox360 has almost if not 99% of it's games in 1080P.
Look at the back of games.
Halo3, PGR4, COD4, COD5 ...
All in 1080P!
BURNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Nice.
mjg @ Apr 1st 2009 4:06PM
No speakers and no tuner... The one linked would be nice for a bedroom/spare room small tv, and give you the ability to plug in a computer should you so desire..
ZaxCG2 @ Apr 1st 2009 4:59PM
EEEEEEH. Nice computer monitor. But lack of A/V and Component cables is a deal breaker.
justin @ Apr 1st 2009 5:54PM
not true, the acer has speakers. No tuner, but speakers yes.
justin @ Apr 1st 2009 6:04PM
sorry, they make it really easy here... H233H b"m"id has speakers. $219 at best buy.

It is not 40 000:1 SCR. That is Dynamic contrast, and it is effectively a complete bullshit value and means nothing.
Leo161 @ Apr 1st 2009 9:21PM
Hahahah just got one of these on my doorstep today! I'm also typing on it! My Ps3 and PC are both outputting at 1080p and it looks like a window to heaven! Why Engadget? Why would I every even bother to look at this ViewSonic when it is clearly overpriced?!
superhobo @ Apr 1st 2009 3:56PM
Speakers ruin the otherwise pretty good bezel.
Chris @ Apr 1st 2009 3:58PM
I got basically the same thing from what I can tell, from ASUS, for $170 on sale (usually $190). The only major difference is the TV Tuner. In fact, it has a better contrast ratio and the same response time. So, if a TV tuner for your computer costs around $75-$100, then what makes this so fantastic for $349?
Cheami90 @ Apr 1st 2009 4:09PM
idiots and their contrast ratios...
Brian @ Apr 1st 2009 4:09PM
well for one almost all pc tv tuners look like ass.
Shinigami @ Apr 1st 2009 4:48PM
Response time? You believe what they write there?
Just you wait till OLED TVs start selling!
justin @ Apr 1st 2009 5:54PM
hmm... if you are concerned about pc tv tuners looking like ass, hook up your ASUS monitor to a tivo, cable box or sat. box and watch away. this tv is still not worth it.
derrick773 @ Apr 1st 2009 4:09PM
I have an earlier edition of this 22 incher by ViewSonic, picked it up for a mere 129.97 on clearance at RadioShack, pretty good grab.

I will tell u why viewsonic is the best I have a 24 inch lcd tv from them that I bought from new egg in 1999 for $789 and it still runs rdiculously bright, no dead pixels, and in mint condition. It has been my pc monitor from 1999 . Seeing this one I am goign to get just becuase of the 720p for my xbox 360 on my desk other then that. VIEWSONIC by a million miles when it comes to pc screens will always rule.

TN display, no thanks, definately going with IPS next time
Wish Dell didn't stop making them, if they did a better job advertising IPS vs TN, i'm sure more people would have ponied up
Mark M @ Apr 1st 2009 4:55PM
I own the 24" version (VT2430) which I use for a bedroom TV (DVD / VCR / OTA antenna) and its adequate, nothing spectacular, but it was cheap and has full inputs. And yes I can definitely tell the difference between 720 and 1080.
Guy @ Apr 1st 2009 8:01PM
Between basic res/size/price, I'd say this could be a real winner for the "we need a HDTV in our bedroom" crowd. Sign me up!
joaquindelgado @ Apr 1st 2009 8:39PM
meh.
viewsonic is kind of cheesy.
i'll take a sony or samsung over a viewsonic anyday.
Mark @ Apr 1st 2009 11:08PM
16:9 is SUCK.
Goddamn it I hate this tendency of computer monitors to go 16:9. 1920x1200 -> 1920x1080 is NOT an upgrade. Neither is 1024x600 -> 1024x576 in the case of netbooks.
FCat @ Apr 1st 2009 11:35PM
