WSJ: Android being considered for HP netbook, Dell MID and smartphone
Sure, we've already seen Android pop up on the HP 2133 Mini-Note thanks to some intrepid DIYers, but now comes word from The Wall Street Journal that HP's got programmers looking into using the Google OS officially for an upcoming netbook. VP of the PC division Satjiv Chahil's quoted as saying they're in the process of assessing its capabilities, so don't get your hopes up anytime soon. Also mentioned is Asus, which we already knew about from back in February. Interestingly, the report states that Dell's been tweaking the software for use in multiple devices due out this year, including a MID and one of those long-rumored smartphones -- that is, assuming they make one that can tickle the carrier's fancy.
Update: HP confirms that it is testing Android but "has made no decision yet whether to offer Android in products."

April Fools
But would it kill them to add hardware aceelerated composting?
I don't see how it relates to april fool.
some one had put it on Thinkpad already.
Technically it is possible
damn..they coulda come up with something better than this couldn't they?
Are we going to be calling all news that comes up today April fools?
Anyway, Android needs a MAJOR overhaul to be a good netbook OS... there are already many more worthy Linux-based OSes on the market.
I would have been more excited about the Dell Android smartphone, if it hadn't been turned down due to some boring design issues.
If the news is as ridiculous as this, then yes, yes we are.
I don't think it's all that ridiculous. Asus is already working on Android-based netbooks, so why not HP?
Besides, the story broke on the 31th of March. Wouldn't that kind of defeat the point of an April fools?
Maybe have a dual boot beta. Still leave your sounds OS intact, but let people play around w/ Android - hell it would sell more cell phones
Hey, I'm going to bed but if someone could continue to call out April Fools for me on any further news items that'd be great.
Thanks.
Android is the Bigfoot of our time - everyone hears about it, but hardly anyone sees it.
Dell would do right to use Android in their smart phone, which would pretty much mean that Palm is fail for not seeing this opportunity, and ending up going alone with WebOS and Pre.
But before anyone with a netbook gets onboard, they have to get Adobe off their rear ends to support flash. Without flash support, netbooks are near-worthless (you can't watch those flash-embedded videos or play flash-based games).
There is no April Fool's joke that HP sucks. They still sell "high end" (not netbook) machines that are crippled with only 1 GB of RAM, but have a fast CPU .. which is pointless.
You could do that, but the question is.. Why would you do that? What advantages can it have over any other Linux distros (like gOS)
If this is an April fool it cames directly from the Wall Street Journal, and I don't think so...

there's anyone even choosing android for a phone. hell there only is one phone.
Android makes sense, perhaps, for a large tablet of some sort. I can see that and it would be cool. For a netbook though... netbooks are simply small, relatively inexpensive laptops in my opinion and that means a desktop OS is preferable.
this is an APRIL FOOLS!
looking at the above artwork just made me realise, is the google android canadian?
