Vodafone's HTC Magic reportedly delayed until May

There's not exactly much in the way of details just yet, but Pocket-lint looks to have confirmed that Vodafone has pushed the release of the HTC Magic out of its promised April launch window, with the Android-powered handset now apparently set to launch on May 1st. That word comes from both HTC and Vodafone's sales reps, although neither seems to have elaborated much on the delay, with HTC only going so far as to say that it was "due to a last minute hardware change." No word if that change will also affect the launch of the phone on other carriers, although it's tough for it to be "delayed" when they've been even less specific about a launch than Vodafone.
Update: Chris wrote in to let us know this delay has been confirmed by Vodafone.

This phone is not that exciting anyways.
Any phone that doesn't have a headphone jack should be out of contention. Period.
Don't reward glaring design stupidity with cash.
Either the Magic is tiny or that guy has some monster hands...
I was expecting the Magic to be roughly the same size as the G1 only thinner because it doesn't have a keyboard.
Oh and I disagree with Faisal. I think the phone is very exciting as it uses a powerful operating system combined with the latest updates and a nice form factor.
Why do cellphone makers (htc in particular) think android-powered handsets don't have to look fancy? first the g1 and now this one... both are extremely hideous
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I for 1 think it looks rather nice. Not everything has to look like an iPhone.
yeah, I agree. i think the phone looks great. simple, and NOT black with chrome...that is getting old.
hopefully the "last minute hardware change" means they scrubbed that fugly chin
Or an upgrade to a 5mp camera?

so... um... what about the chins on the house phones we've been using for decades.... did anyone complain about those?
no because i didn't carry my household phone in my pocket
The chin serves a purpose, though. If you put the phone face-down on a table, the screen doesn't rest on the table and the trackball is free from getting pressed. It's a smart design, smarter than just recessing the trackball and making it a pain in the ass to use. The chin on the G1 sticks out a staggering 1/16th of an inch.
Waiting to do a global launch perhaps with T-Mobile USA??
That phone would look really nice in black. Also they should demo Android phones with a different wallpaper. They can do much better than the Mountains/lake picture.
Me want.
I'll pass....
It's tremendously inferior to the G1, except for the camera which is a mild improvement (3.2 --> 5), only in the US. And that doesn't make up for the lack of a physical keyboard...
I guess that means there will not be an update for the G1 until this phone comes out :(
THAT SUCKS!
che. probly cupcakes fault
perhaps a front facing camera?
hopefully is a button change. those buttons are an atrocious design flaw. Hopefully the in the wild shots start to coincide with the buttons that are shown on HTC's website. They are much better for human usage. Still no 3.5mm headphone jack either, get that and you will have a stellar phone.
dude, the 1st thing that HTC said when showing this phone is that this is a prototype model AND that those buttons are only placeholders for the production model buttons. Having said that, I do like the thin design of this phone :)
It'd be exiting if HTC switched entirely to Android and made it its home platform. As is right now the closest competitor Android has is WinMo in the sense that both OSs are not connected whit the hardware that runs them.
In the other hand, Nokia, RIM, Palm and Apple all engineer both the hardware and the software so they are able to tightly integrate and optimize both sides together. I think this is an advantage and that in the long run will serve to differentiate them in a distinct and positive way from Android and WinMo handsets.
As is right now it is hard to tell. The Smart Phone wars just barely got started and once Palm joins the rat race the group of major players will be complete. Things are going to get very exiting indeed!!
What the G2 should look like..
Man, I so want one...
not a polished enough product to challenge the big coming phones like the pre and the iphone.
it still needs that 3.5mm headphone jack
Excellent, I can still be the cool kid on the block with my g1 :)
spare us the heartache,. Fail.!zero sexiness . Remember sex sells.
Anyone noticed the buttons are different via HTC's official website?

Good. Maybe they'll get rid of the menu button.
The official launch of the HTC Magic in the UK is May 1st but pre-orders will start from April 17th.
Does it seriously matter about a headphone jack >.
The launch might be May 1st but its not going to be available to customers untill the 9th!
