BakerTweet, the Arduino-based pastry early warning system

Usually when we cover the baked goods beat 'round here it's in the form of a gadget-themed confection, so anything that actually empowers our sweet tooth is not only brilliant, it's dangerous! That's why we were really excited (and a little scared) to come across BakerTweet, a WiFi-enabled, Arduino-based prototype that one mounts on the wall of their bakery. Items are added or removed via web interface, which you can later select by simply spinning the dial. When the sweets come out of the oven, press the button to Tweet your eager customers and await the stampede. The prototype unit is being used at Albion's Oven in London, but we're looking forward to seeing it hit the streets Stateside at some point in the near future (even if our waist isn't). Video after the break.

Presumably because they can

I bought some arduino crap, and know i dont know what to do with it.
Im thinking arduino shoes that enhance/monitor my dancing skills, they would feedback via wireless earphones, which i would subtly conceal with long disco hair.

I used my arduino to create a recording light (led) for my HTPC case. when media center is recording shows, it lights up.

I think this would be kind of frivolous, there'd be like a hundred tweets inbetween 3am and 5 am and then nothing till about 6 pm when they allert their followers to come and buy stale bread...they're tired of feeding the geese.
xhadow @ Apr 3rd 2009 9:48AM
Well Krispy Kreme may be all over this one... they may actually get a little business from tweeting when your local one's "light" is on!
Gregory Pius @ Apr 3rd 2009 12:13PM
There are still Krispy Kreme stores? They closed all the ones here in South Florida...
Trevor @ Apr 3rd 2009 4:51PM
Did they? I could've sworn there was still one in North Miami Beach or thereabouts...
IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII (BarCODE) @ Apr 4th 2009 2:38PM
We have them in central Florida, I stopped in 2 weeks ago for a hot one.
Zunavio @ Apr 3rd 2009 9:41AM

Yevon @ Apr 3rd 2009 10:46AM
"BakerTweet allows businesses to use Twitter to communicate in real-time about offers, pricing and stock from a device that can withstand kitchen peril and is much simpler to operate than a laptop or a mobile."
jason @ Apr 3rd 2009 9:48AM
Excellent! Now I'm going to think even more about opening a boulangerie ... (tech + carbs = drool)

Maybe Seinfeld wouldn't have had to steal the last marble rye if he had known when the batch came out of the oven...
Coredalae @ Apr 3rd 2009 11:41AM

Khalid Al-Amoudi @ Apr 3rd 2009 6:52PM
Don't you see? This is an attempt by the robots to rule the world! Not only that by they hide it in the french food "Pain au Chocolat". WHat you don't see is that they actually mean (in English) "Painful death in chocolate"
Then again, dying in chocolate might be interesting...
Anyway that's a quite interesting idea! =D
bartoron @ Apr 3rd 2009 11:17PM
Mmm... chocolate bread.
