Health Control Game Timer keeps your DS gaming in check

Video game timers of one sort or another are hardly anything new, but timers for handheld game consoles are a considerably rarer sight, especially ones as elaborate as this so-called Health Control Game Timer for the Nintendo DS. Apparently not content with simply shutting off the handheld after a predetermined period of time, this one also packs a built-in proximity sensor that'll set off an alarm if you're holding the DS too close to your face. Of course, considering that the device can simply be yanked from the DS at any time, this isn't exactly the most effective tool for parents looking to curb their kids' gaming habits but, if you lack a little self control yourself, you can grab one of these now for ¥ 3,990, or just about $40.

Personally, I find just nagging my kids to until they start crying works best.
..or taking them to a foreign country and beating them.:)
And if you wanna play a GBA game?
Just in time for the DSi...
i know, right?!
That's a good thing, if you ask me... I don't want this!
I know awesome how Nintendo removed this slot on hte newly released DSi meaning GBA games and DS add-ons like this, GH button's, web browser won't work.
Then charge you nearly half extra for the removed functionality n some crappy .3 megapixel camera's. Woot I'll buy 10.
This is a kinda silly implementation- but I wish more products warned you when they're being used dangerously or improperly- not like iPod volume limiting, more like a voice that says "hey dipshit, the guy 10ft away can hear your shitty reggaeton, please turn it down... For the sake of your ears."
I'm investing in hearing aids- it's gonna be the coolest thing when my generation (late 80s babies) are completely going completely deaf in ten years.
There's still time to care for your 'drums!
End rant.
Completely. Apparently.
The iPod shuffle does this, right? :D
Just glue it in.
After this thing shut down your DS, won't you be able to just turn it on again?
I could actually see this being used for "responsible adult use" instead of as a monitoring tool for kids.
Take this scenario for example, say you are a college student, or a professional who has to take work home: You want to relax and play a game for a little while after work/class but you don't want to get so sucked in that you lose track of time (because you have work to do). This could easily use this to play a game for 30 minutes, then it shuts off. Of course you have to have the self control to put it away.
I for one could have used this on my Wii yesterday evening when I played WindWaker for 2 hours when I intended on playing it for about half of that time.
I dont believe this will work for the DSI... There is no GBA slot...
How does this work when a game is in the middle of saving and this thing turns it off?
Not a good purchase if you play animal crossing a lot, turned it off once without quiting properly and Resetti had a go at me!
