I would so buy one if I had enough money :)
Totally. :(
I did buy one once. Great machine...until it crapped out 3 months outside of warranty. Back to thinkpads I went.
smokin deal
650 dolares?
Voy a comprar 2!
Por que no compras 4?
Because I'm Mexican.
:)
lol, go hector
Yo soy Joe!
l just got my x61 in the mail today... damn it.
no mames
Damn, not bad. I'd put up with how hot it gets and how poor the battery life is for that price.
Damn, my mom just bought a laptop with Similar Specs for 750!(It has a 9600 though)
with multitouch?
F*ck Me.. Ugh totally wish I had 450 in the bank.. =/ Think It will drop this low again anytime later?
You mean you wish you had $650 :) You get $450 OFF that gets you to $650, but it's one hell of a smokin' deal! That's 40% off!
Ha read it wrong/ Haha Guess Im a "selective reader"
@ OP
well, if you keep selling yourself with "F*uck me" on Engdaget, im sure you'd pick up some consumers willing to pay upwards of 100 dollars? any takers?
With a moniker like "jitters" the action is probably hot stuff. Either that or you've got Parkinson's. Regardless, it's probably worth a Benjamin. Lube up, Jitters!
[I'm going to regret clicking "Add Comment," aren't I??]
Not worth it at all. Get a refurbished Dell XT if you want multitouch, or an HP 2710p.
The tx2z is a consumer-class machine and it shows. If you're in the market for a tablet, I highly suggest sticking to the business-class machines.
Hmm, I think I'd have to agree overall. I have a tx2000z and it's a fairly nice machine, but the battery life is kind of suck and it does get a bit hot sometimes. I still like it for its portability and price though; you definitely pay for that business-class quality.
and you are qualified to comment on this how? This is an amazing deal for the laptop. I own the original tx1000 and the tx2 is 100% worth every penny, you couldn't get a multitouch laptop for any cheaper. The only thing the business laptops/tablets will give you is a higher price and more defined corners/edges...do your research first before ever commenting on anything you don't know about again.
This is a fantastic machine. I too have the older generation tx2117 (the tx2000 series) and it's fabulous with windows 7. it came with vista sp1 which wasn't a great experience. they made some nice tablet refinements for 7. yes, it does run hot at its vent on the right side. that's the negative.
the positives are great. the active digitizer screen is really nice. it can easily tell between fingers and stylus. you don't have to worry about resting your hand on the screen and accidentally moving the cursor. you can write with your fingers or with the stylus. you don't even have to press the stylus to the screen. you can hover it to write, or you can press down.
it's a fully spec'ed machine. mine came with a remote that's great for ppt presentations, media center 7, etc. the web cam is good. the fingerprint reader is not as easy as the one on the thinkpad. you have to be really disciplined in your swiping because they put it on the side of the screen rather than on main computer near the keyboard like a thinkpad.
i never got the the allure of a tablet until this machine. but now i get it. i see what tablet people see.
I agree with Joe. I currently have the this unit (well had, just sold it)...and it just wasnt worth it. Be VERY wary guys, HP seriously dropped the ball on quality control on this unit. it took me four units to get one that either wasnt defective, or that did not come with a very poorly made screen. There is a Matte and glossy screen, but the matte is done very poorly so even if you are a Matte screen fan you would really end up with a very low quality screen if you went it with...BUT GUESS WAT...some genius at HP forgot to make a differentiation between the glossy and matte screen( as in different model numbers or even something that states in on the box). So what does this mean? THERE IS NO WAY OF KNOWING IF YOU ARE GETTING A GLOSSY SCREEN OR MATTE SCREEN UNTIL YOU OPEN THE BOX. Interestingly enough most retailers are not even aware of this, they all have the glossy screen versions on display, but you cld very well end up with Matte screen once you get home and open the box....it took 3 units...and in my case it was the 4th that was spot on. The first unit had a HORRIBLE matte screen, The second unit was the Glossy version i wanted BUT once turned on had a busted right speaker that had a loud static sound coming from it, The third unit Another Matte Unit with a big dead pixel in the middle of the screen, and FINALLY the fourth was perfect. And this is not just an isolated issue because there is an entire forum about people that went thru the same problems, so if you are not the kind of person that has the patience to keep returning the unit you get the right one, dont bother...Of course that is not to say that the first one you get wont be fine. You would think that after about the second unit i would have just given up, yea maybe I should have. But you have to understand that at that time i did not realize that this was a Unit that HP cut alot of corners to introduce at that price point.
But I ended up selling mine on Ebay after 5 weeks. The quality was just terrible. I mean you look at this unit and it really is cheap even at the 1k price point compared to everything else out there, but dont think HP figured away to give you an excellent device at an affordable price. They DIDNT...wat they did was essentially give you a LOW QUALITY unit....with a touch screen. That is what it really boils down to. My advice is, if you are on the market for a new laptop dont see this and say for my 1k budget i can get a Tablet pc from HP...because for that same 1k you could get a very SOLID mid ranged laptop, as opposed to a low budget laptop with a touch screen (with is what this unit really is) If you feel the unit it feels as if they said..."whats the worst materials we could use to build the shell?" and some one said how about Tissue paper and card board and then said YEAH lets do it...lol. The only person i would recommend this too is a person whom is in ABSOLUTE need of a tablet pc..that is YOU REALLY REALLY NEED ONE..and that is what you are currently on the market for, but your money is REALLY REALLY TIGHT. Then and only then would i recommend this, and even then i would do what Joe H said up top and get a refurbished or used higher end tablet.
Even at $650 it would be hard to recommend. It really is that bad....it gets HOT like crazy. And man o man the fan in that thing is just INSANE. I tried to lie to my self for 3 weeks saying it didnt bother me, what a fool i was. Imagine having a blow dryer sound fluctuating between low medium and high speed essentially non stop form your laptop. If you are using it while watching tv or listening to music its manageable, but if you are in a quit location or in your room trying to be productive or just browsing the net...the noise is just insane. The viewing angle on it is pretty bad toooo....when in tablet mode you really can only use it in one orientation, anything else and if you are not looking dead on at the screen it will look like hell. Man I know that no device is really ever perfect...i know there is always something to complain about with things, but this one device has ALOT to comlain about. Yea it has 4gb or ram (which is great) a bit hard drive, and some nice options like the web cam (which does work pretty good) and the finger print reader, but everything aside from that is just HORRIBLE.
Right now im using a Unibody 13 inch mac book..the pro was to big for me..so i just got the highest end macbook..(NO I AM NOT A MAC HEAD lol), and my Dell Xps 1730. I had purchased this cause i wanted something smaller (The Xps 1730 is a behemoth...all round. Its not something that you sit on your bed and put on your laps) and I also wanted to be able to directly input things on the screen, sign documents and do some photo editing. I bought both the Wacom Bamboo and the Intuos 4, just to see if i can get by with the Bamboo and if there is really any need for me to have the professional level intuos. $69 vs $299
I wanted to like it, i really just could not. No offense to anyone that has this already and likes it.
I have to agree! My unit was perfect out of the box, no problems works great. It does get hot and that fan is really annoying. The tab key came loose. I loved having the integrated Lightscribe dvd burner. I hate the glossy screen. But it seems like alll consumer models come with them now. My daughters 15" Dell XPS has the glossy screen also and I cant stand the glare. I now have the business class Lenovo thinkad X61. It is great solid and much better quality. BUT no integrated cd/dvd, no touch pad( not so bad I like the touch stick better anyway), NO MULTI-TOUCH which I really liked SO I am either geting a x200 or Dell XT. BTW I get more and more tempted by MACS, one of these days I will try one.
currently have a tx2525z
what many people overlook is that this is also a wacom, its not clique replacement but its well under 600 price point and quite an attractive buy for someone looking for a tablet with a screen that is presure sensitive and wacom driver support
I totally passed on this computer like a month ago and bought something else instead because this was too expensive.
Awesome deal.
Whats the best tablet if I wanted to do Illustrator and Flash?
A cheap dual2core desktop, a good quality monitor and a wacom tablet would do the job way better.
Oh, maybe you already have that... Then I guess any tablet would be ok because illustrator and flash are not very heavy to handle unlike photoshop or after effects... 4gb of ram look like a nice deal but I guess 2gb is enough.
Agreed. Get a big, high resolution monitor and a Wacom tablet to replace your mouse.
I think the fujitsu T1010 and T5010 tablets are good since you can spec them quite highly compared to other tablets (in fact Im not sure any other tablets are as powerful) which will be useful if your doing graphics type work ;) They also have 13" screens compared to the 12" that seems to be the norm for other tablets so even though the resolution might be the same you wont need to squint as much! Read some reviews first though - sites such as tabletpcbuzz ad tabletocreview should be of some help.
However unless you really really really need to be mobile then a decent monitor and an wacom intuos tablet would be a much better investment. You could probably bag an entry level Eizo screen (which are still awesome compared to most consumer displays) and an Intuos for less money than a decently specced tablet pc.
Hope that helps :)
Not this one since this piece of trash doesnt support pressure sensitivity in illustration programs
NOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
The week I forgot to turn in my time sheet this AMAZING DEAL HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't get paid till like NEXT NEXT NEXT week. And my credit card is holding me alive.
I assume that wallpaper is one that comes with new HPs... so...
I will award 4 Internets to whatever kind-hearted commenter uploads or finds a copy of the above wallpaper... because I dig it hard.
here you go, my good friend. why not just have them all *throws every hp wallpaper conceived at jack*
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=309237
They even throw in a free printer...
If I wasn't saving up the Adamo I'd hit this.
I'd rather buy a MacBook Air instead of the Adamo. I'm not a mac fan but the Air is cheaper and faster than the Adamo.
Screw the Adamo the MSI is prolly going to be way better of a deal/Nicer, and sleeker looking (unless you lick that Square look)
http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/02/msi-x-slim-x340-photographed-benchmarked-in-mysterious-hotel-ro/
Adamo is a waste of time, get an Envy 133. That notebook is sexy.
Get the MacBook Air instead. The Air is cheaper, much faster, lighter and probably even better built.
oh geez... thats the exact same thing im typing on... what the hell... i want 450. now.
I know that feeling.. Sucks Bawlss
This is alarmingly close to what I would consider an impulse buy.
I don't even need a tablet...do I?
The reviews almost unanimously state that the performance isn't up to par...that would be a deal-breaker. I'd want a snappy touchscreen.
What to do...what to do...
I just bought it - this is an amazing deal...I'll trade-in my old laptop that is falling apart and needs a $100 battery replacement - so I'll get this for even less - $549
Thanks for the tip Engadget!!!
its all good... my hdx18t's already shipped and on its way :)
I just bought One, Great Deal. $897.38
