Archos 2 and Archos 4 flash players leak out
We haven't heard anything official, but images of an Archos 2 flash player have turned up in a few places on the web today, along with word of an Archos 4. The 2's already listed on Amazon -- it's not going to rock worlds, but it's not bad for $60, with 8GB of storage and microSD expansion, a 1.8-inch 128 x 160 display and a voice recorder all in a .35-inch thick package. There's also a 16GB version on Amazon.de for €68 ($92), but that hasn't yet made it to the US Amazon site. The Archos 4 is a little more mysterious -- all we really know about it is that it'll have a four-inch screen and 16 to 32GB of flash. We're guessing these'll pop soon, we'll let you know.

It's got buttons -- how pre latest gen Apple iPod shuffle.
Yes, $60 for 8gb, microSD expansion, and novel things like buttons and a screen compared to $80 for 4gb and annoyance.
I mean, it even has a screen so that you can actually see what the buttons you are pressing are doing. Where's the challenge in that?
Yeah! I demand my drm headphones! NOW!
Looks nice, but their last attempt at a small flash player didn't turn out so well, mainly because of the sound quality so hopefully they've remedied that.
Wow. $60 for 8GB of storage and microSD expansion, a 1.8-inch 128 x 160 display and a voice recorder all in a .035-inch thick package. Yet when buying an 8GB Apple iPod Nano, it would cost about $150. $92 for the 16GB version while 16GB iPod Nanos would cost around $200. I wanna see what Archos 4 looks like.
I like the screen and the buttons on the Archos 2 and black color looks nice.
"all in a .035-inch thick package"
Either that's a typo or they found some new completely revolutionary manufacturing process.
Just so you know 9mm is actually 0.354330709"
Definitely a typo. Amazon lists it as 0.4"
But can it play flash?
ahhhh!
Thats cheap, and archos makes quality products, plus it has expandable memory. Worth it
i appreciate your ,empathy. Definitely not mentally challenged or disabled. My $82,000.00 base salary would beg to differ.
The Archos 4 is really looking interesting to me. Especially since the Cowon O2 was such a disappointment. Can't wait till the finished product becomes available, and it's more in my price range (since the Archos 5 is too damn expensive).
Exactly.
Still I wouldn't be in hurry if I were you...
And since Archos has such a poor communication strategy I wouldn't bet on new infos any soon..
They wouldn't want to make a buzz would they ..?
Damn and some guy is actually paid to organize this OMG !
I want one.
Why all of the shiny glossy gadgets have the same reflection?
Because lazy photoshoping.
Archos promised to produce an Archos 5 based smartphone in cooperation with Texas Instruments.
I have patiently wated for the last 6 months.
So?
Where is the Archos smartphone?
Just beside the Nuviphone in vaporware land?
No they said they would update in July due to getting all that power in a mobile device. and c'mon, you can wait for the most awesome device can't you? it has everything the iPhone has except it looks better, has a better screen, has 33x the storage of the 16gb and runs android.
yaawn.. looks like an mp3 player.
good price tho ;)
.035 inches?
Can I just crumple it up and put it in my pocket?
That's less than a single mm.

32GB, now your tempting me. I have a 50GB library and I HATE my iPod classic. More high capacity flash players!!
I just hope the MicroSD implementation on this 2 (and god willing, the 4) will work better than on the Creative players.
Having two libraries depending on where you put your files is just bad design.
When did Creative's PC handling come into the equation?
Evidently, people are still bitter about the ZEN.
oh boy, i cant wait to see when they come out with there Android device later this year with storage for all my songs!!
I got a cowon D2 and an Archos 605. I want something between those from one of those companies. Small but with a big hard drive. And lots of buttons with no stupid touch screens. Ughhh
It's got buttons
Maybe I'm not a mind reader, maybe I'm stupid...I don't know what the thing is for! A Flash player...it plays flash files? All the comments comparing it to iPods I wonder is it a MP3 player? Whatever it is, I won't be buying one
Ok you've proven your point : you're stupid at least enough not to know this is a mp3 player..
Flash refers to flash memmory..
Screw the 2 archos is no good for small flash, get a sansa clip
The 4 could be interesting though, finally their making something that fits compfortably in a pocket, the flash memory wouldn't hurt either
Archos 4 might be interesting.
Considering Archos already use Samsung screens extensively, wouldn't it be sweet if they put out a PMP using Saumsungs new 3.7" OLED display?. It would look amazing, and has a cool extra-wide 720x360 aspect ratio.
I might be missing something but could that Archos 4 be the very same Android device they've been talking about ?
Yawn, no match for iPod touch,.no wifi. Blows
I doubt that they're trying to compete with the iPod Touch using tiny flash players with buttons.
This is not meant to compete with the Touch, just look at the specs and the price range. This is meant to compete with the iPod Nano.
The Archos 605 and the Archos 5/7 are more in direct competition to the ipod touch, however, they are much more capable than the touch
It's not meant to match up with with the Touch, more like the Nanos, a 1/3 of the price, same capacity. It even takes over the shuffle, $20 less twice the capacity and a screen.
With Apple you do pay for Industrial Design, the Brand, and the Community. I am just surprised no one else has been able to match the design forms like Apple, the only one that came close IMO was the Toshiba Gigabeat. If anyone can tell me of any other nicely designed products please do.
Oh and btw, I like Apple a lot, but it's comments like this that make the rest of us regular Apple users look stupid.
I agree that archos mp3 player is the most completed and advanced device for to-day mp3 technology.
