Keepin' it real fake, part CXCVI: NOKLA 5800 XpressMusic is actually quite convincing on video
NOKLA strikes again! The Hong Kong-based doppelganger has concocted its own version of the 5800 XpressMusic, and it looks like they've spared no expense in copying the Finnish phonemaker's handiwork, from the apparent use of Symbian S60 5th Edition to the wavy line-infused screen film. Vietnamese retailer L. A. digital's selling it for 1,900,000 VND, or about $107 US. Peep the video after the break to see this grade-A KIRF unboxed and toyed with.

First!
Just kidding, I don't do that crap.
Wow, this looks really stupid. How many people actually buy these phones? Not many people like to by fakies.
At least they don't write NOKlA...
@Shinigami
Check what it says when you turn it on
It looks like the screen is leaking in that first photo...
Lol you're right!
IM ON A BOAT

I hear he fucked a mermaid.
he bought a mermaid
What do you mean "from the apparent use of symbian 5th edition" is this the actual symbian 5th edition, or some crap software made to look like it. Cuz you know, symbian aint no andriod.
It's not Symbian. It's a run-of-the-mill Nucleus/MTKOS firmware made to look like symbian.
It boots up faster than the real thing :P
Wow that's a pretty good copy..Though no accelerometer :( . Other than that, seems foolish to pay for the real thing as you can buy a few of these. It's not like they made this OS, they just copied the hardware and stole the OS, so it should be just fine software, not like that usual Chinese software. Idk, anyone else tempted by these knockoffs sometimes?
Wow that's amazing! The fake is faster and more responsive than the real thing!
Ugh... I need Dramamine after watching that.
These phones are actually from Mainland China, not Hong Kong
No web browser shots? damn seems ok though, hope its quad band
This uses the real S60? Heck, I'd buy it. Boots up faster, too.
Was that the girl from the movie "The Ring" in the reflection?
Actually, I am pretty sure I must be missing someting but what is with people trying to sell mobile phones for "music". Any smartphone plays music, and my XDA/HTC has a swell music player. And storage capacity just depends on the storage card anyway.
So why am is anyone going to buy a phone whose USP is supposed to be that it plays music?
I don't get the Nokla thing. They have pretty much ripped off every other piece of Nokia trademark and trade dress without any shame, I don't get why they would bother changing the one letter in the name on the phone or the packaging, they didn't even bother changing it in the startup screen.
because it is symbian software
You can imitate everything that is not patented, copyrighted or trademarked. In the case of mobile phones , its just the trademark is the problem , assuming (on shaky grounds), they licensed and properly bought all the internals from respective sources. Of course, the trademark is the most obvious part and changing it keeps them legally safe from derived attempts at further investigation.
@Nash
If anybody exported this phone outside of china they would be destroyed by the customs as a obvious trademark violation. This phone looks too similar to the Nokia one to be allowed for sale. For example there's been several cases where sneakers with 4 stripes on side have been destroyed becouse it's been considered a violation on adidas 3 stripes trademark.
Even the name Nokla wouldn't be alloved for a phone manufacturer for being too close to Nokia.
Ah, but that is in the end for the judge to decide. Changing it is a little better than being exactly the same.
seems like a sweetphone for $100
everyone got to be careful with this.... but its the greatest compliment ever for nokia.
Am I the only one who noticed that this and the one before it said IVOKLA, just stylized. So that may be their loophole. It just so happens to look like NOKIA.
It's "NOKLA." Everything else from the battery to the sides of the box say "NOKLA" in plain font.
WTH engadget you get it wrong...it's KIRF OS with some skinning to look like s60v5
Not that engadget would know the difference, with their level of "expertise" on s60 and especially v5...
Why do these KIRFs always have two slots for SIM cards?
Because they're dual sim, like some newer brand dumbphones, they can keep two sims online (even on different networks) at the same time. Both numbers reachable.
Says something about how fair Engadget's "review" on the *NOKIA* 5800 that they would mistake this POS OS for Symbian s60v5.
Anyway does anyone know if it's possible to order one of these, you know, outside of China? Would be fun to check it out for myself.
oh shit it's in Vietnamese i can read it
haha its a damn Nokia but in a different shell, I cant believe they dont have laws on this over seas or something.
Oh my god, I think I'm gonna puke....
