Lenovo MRT800 touchscreen PMP unveiled, pities no fool
On the surface, Lenovo's MRT800 doesn't seem to have any surprises, but if you look closer... well, it's more or less the same. The touchscreen PMP's got a 4.3-inch TFT LCD with 480 x 272 resolution, a microSD expansion slot, FM tuner, and a voice recorder. Codec support includes RMVB, AVI, ASF, MP4, and FLV for video, and MP3, WMA, OGG, APE, FLAC, and WAV for audio. Mum's the word on pricing, release date, or if anyone else mispronounces its name and gets the urge to watch A-Team reruns.

(snaps in half with knee)
Eww.. 480 x 272!
My old Archos 605 does 800x480 on a 4.3" screen.
MRT800 is so 2006.
SHUT UP FOOO !
Uhhh...no.
Yes.
Could be cool, if the res had been a little higher. Maybe 640x or 720x is better suited to a 4.3" screen.
Still, looks like a neat little player, and knowing Lenovo, it should be well built and with good battery life.
my cowon q5w owns it
Drink the milk, B.A.
Lenovo used to make such nice machines......now, they are making silly things.
Lenovo never made nice machines. Sheesh, they've got this undeserved reputation these days simply because they *bought* the Thinkpad line from IBM a while back - true, they'd been manufacturing them before that, but to IBM's specs and designs. Their own computers were always much different.
What Lenovo-designed and built machine had you even heard of before that? And what Lenovo-designed and built machine *after* that would you describe as "nice"? All of their non-Thinkpad computers have always been run of the mill cheap Asian computers. Not much different than Acer or ASUS or whoever else. Not bad, but nothing special.
I don't know much about their media players, but based on this I'd say they're nothing special either, and I doubt they ever have been (assuming this isn't the first).
ha screwy res
why dont u just get a psp???
*yawn. It's China only. Also, no H.264 support? Next.
I think it's important to understand which market this is targeted towards.
Alot of media downloaded from chinese sites and bts (legal and otherwise) are in rmvb format and most western targeted players lacks rmvb support (i actually think there isnt one. archos 5s bought in taiwan comes with a rmvb plugin, but you cant get it on north american archos 5s).
So as north americans, the rmvb support is trivial, but to the chinese market, it's the bread and butter of codec support.
Thank you for your intelligent response.
Please understand that it will, in no way, deter us from ridiculing the device about the features you've addressed.
Respectfully,
Er'body else.
does anyone notice the UI janked from apple tv? lol.
Yes, of course Apple invent the white on black menu........
OWNED
No, Apple didn't invent the white on black UI, but the white on black with blue highlight and exact placement as any Apple TV or Front Row UI is definitely made by apple. And don't say shit about me being a fanboy, because if it looked like WMC, I would have caught it too. So therefore, think before you speak. and no, Mr. Moore, I am not OWNED. Slavery was abolished years ago.
Regardless of the argument in question - you're actually a moron. Sorry. *shrug*
As for the device, looks quite nice, despite that resolution being a little low.
@Smi and Qsat
Wait, um that is actually the Apple TV UI, so how come people are calling this kid a moron, I noticed it immediately as well, they took a screen shot of an Apple TV or Front Row menu and photoshopped it on to the screen. I don't really think he's a moron for pointing that out.
and it runs front row
Overpriced n subpar compared to touch,.
I mean who seriously believes it will kill n overtake the touch here in USA ,?
Who said it was supposed to?
Also, the price isn't announced - so how is it overpriced? Besides, in the UK the Touch works out at about £10 per GB - the Archos 5 represents a much /much/ better deal, even with all it's shortcomings.
I like Lenovo... this is low on my list of priorities though
My Archos 5 would be a better deal, if it was not for the fact that they did not deliver half of the features they promised at launch 9 month ago and that if they finally release them, the pmp will be almost at the end of it's practical life. My last Archos product, please Lenovo improve this PMP and launch it here.
aaaaagh the mysterious two tone gadget gloss strikes again!
This would be great IF someone would make one with a 9-10 inch screen. There are TONS of these things in the 3-5 and even 7 inch size. There is almost NO selection in the 9-10 market though. Just like there are tons of Netbooks with 7-10 in screens but almost NONE with any real power. Sigh. No one ever makes what you want, only whatever everyone else is marking.
MRT800?
Quick, somebody needs to photoshop an image of a cross between Mr T and Arnie! :D
Get the iPod touch. It's better and faster than this POS Lenovo. I have one and I love it.
i think it looks....sssssssexy! can someone post a sexy...er looking one?
