Samsung's new SyncMaster 70 displays consume 33% less energy, 0% less pizzazz

Taking global climate change as seriously as anyone is these days, Samsung has trotted out a pair of new SyncMaster 70 series monitors, on the green tip. Coming in at your choice of either 20- or 23-inches, the displays sport a 50000:1 contrast ration, 2ms response time, and consume thirty-three percent less energy than previous Sammy outings. No word yet on screen resolution, release date, or price. Don't tell us that you're not a little bit excited. Just a little?

Hey! She's not that good looking...
@iLoveApple:
Dude, the Apple fanboys are often accused of being fans of shit, but you've gone too far.
@the non-scat freaks still reading:
Does anybody else think that the display within a display on the fake(?) screen image looks like it has a huge crack across the LCD? Poor choice of graphics, Samsung.
looks more like a treebranch to me,
@Giga; Welcome to Endgadet, Samsung is notorious for picking the worse korean models out there. Go for Sharp, Panasonic, or Sony if you want some Asian electronics model hotness
Agreed. Not so goodlooking girls = not enough enthusiasm for the company to launch product.
What is "contrast ration"??
"Consume"
"Contrast Ration"
"Pizzazz"
Is this article about food? :-P
i'd do her
yep, she made me slightly more excited than I was before the post.
why can't you just stick to the topic.
wow how immature.
We know you would. Any normal male, given the proper circumstances would.
As in all cases where some dude posts "I'd do her" or "I'd hit it" the real question is, would she do you? The answer to that question is universally "no"
he's probably on the opposite team... hence
I'm actually 23% more excited ...
i'd do him. wait, that's a woman?
Why are all the moronic comments about the girl in the picture that are about to be made considered cool here on engadget....?
I don't know why American doesn't have more slutty models in adverts. Like if say Dell had a hot Asian lady next to one of their Studio laptops I'd be like, "Wow that doesn't suck as bad now because she's hot and is standing next to it with this weird look on her face like I just told her I wanted to take a dump on her chest."
Because she's cool with it because I'm paying. (for the steamer)
Please notice, this woman is fully and modestly clothed. If Americans were to do it, she'd be in a bikini with huge jugs hanging over the screen, completely blocking the view of it.
On a side note, she's a very un-Asian looking Asian woman.
"hot asian" is an oxymoron, except here where she doesn't look like one.
That is a very mature and classy looking lady, my good man.
She is classy and modestly clothed...but I'm willing to bet she's been paid to give a hand job before.
She is actually normal looking instead of the Bug Eyed Anime freeks haha.
I think the next "green" electronics I'm going to be excited about is when it's so green it gives back to the power grid when idle. OR I'd be excited if Samsung gave you an asian girl with every monitor purchase. Hey, population control AND going green, it's a win win. I want an asian with my monitor!
I'm not paying shipping though, or at least maybe work something out where they pay half....shipping would be waaay too much.
I want a 50" screen for $200, IDK about the energy consumption . My screen works even without "the enviroment" (my car also)
33% less energy is nice, but at a price of probably $300+, I'll pass.
I believe these are at BestBuy already...
I'm 33% unsure about the durability of that neck.
Oh Engadget, you know I am more than a 'little excited'. I could careless about the monitor though.
Uh, what else is there to comment about? The fact that it's just another 'green' LCD monitor isn't all that exciting. And two, most high/ highly ranked comments around here are those which are more funny then informative. You have a better chance of getting positive ratings for sarcastic remarks or for saying what we're all thinking.
The funny thing is, the other 'glamour shots' in the read link are more about the reasonably hot asian model than about the monitors. The monitor is there, sure, but the angle of view (all showing the front panel of the monitor) is basically the same thing in all four gallery photos. The model changes poses and you even get to see more of the kitchen, but it's like they're using the monitor as a backdrop rather than trying to showcase the new product itself.
So it's not just engadget readers who are thinking that.
A little bit more informations from Korean sites.
Price: ($1.00 = 1300 Won)
P2070G: 358,000 Won = about $280
P2370G: 427,000 Won = about $330
Thickness is 300mm ( = 1.2")
They say you can save 120W / day (8hr of usage, 16hr stand-by)
P2370G supports Full-HD.
Looks like no height/tilt/swivel. If that's true then I wouldn't even consider this.
seriously, i don't understand what the big deal is about height, tilt, or swivel. seriously, swivel is useless, as you can just turn the monitor, and you really only need height or tilt. i would assume the monitor will tilt, and not have height adjustment, as my current syncmaster does. But whatever. I will probably replace my 940MW with this, or something like this, soon.
Most monitors 22" and over are not height adjustable. and swivel is completely useless.
what's with that crazy contrast ratio? Seriously! My first lcd had 700:1. Then I got excited to hear 1,000:1. Next thing i know, it's 8,000:1 this, 10,000:1 that. Now I see crazy s!!t like 50,000:1 (50 thousend? what's the basis for that? it's just another TN panel from sammy. Nothing to get excited over besides looks. Are they just making crap up or something? Jeez!)
I'd be more excited for a good looking sammy monitor that had 176x176 viewing angles, a quality colour rep, LED backlit, and reslutions to fit everyone's budget.
hell yes. I loved the samsung styling, but the viewing angles on all these TN panels are disgusting. give me an LED display that i don't have to pay $800 for!
I second that.
TN panels should start being phased out. P-MVA, S-PVA or S-IPS panel LCDs should really start taking over. All the news about these '50,000:1' contrast ratio monitors does NOT impress me at all.
I'm still rocking my 24" LG L246WP P-MVA panel. Absolutely stunning monitor and dead perfect colour rendition. No way I'm ever going back to TN panels.
I don't ever believe anything Samsung says about their specs ever since the response time debacle a few years ago. The 50,000:1 contrast Ratio is probably the Dynamic contrast ratio, which equates to meaning almost nothing on a TN screen.
the other flavors of LCDs are nice...though I would just prefer for larger cheaper OLED screens, I saw the Sony one IRL and for once my jaw dropped.
Also I'm tired of all affordable computer LCDs having 60hertz refresh times....why can TVs have 120 (which I hate because it makes all film look like video) but not PC monitors were it actually helps (well...with gaming hahaha :-D )
I really do get excited when companies start making more and more energy efficient products!
My SyncMaster 906BW is one of the older, not-as-efficient models and it only has a 2000:1 contrast ratio vs. these with their 50000:1!
I'll be especially excited when OLED becomes viable at a reasonable proce point. Those have something like a 1000000:1 contrast ratio while consuming around 80% less power.
1,000,000:1 true contrast raitio....not all this "dynamic" contrast ratio shit.
"I'd let you watch, I would invite you but the [screens] we use would not excite you..."
She looks like an Asian Vanessa Carlton.
At my local best buy... looks like every other display...
she must be tiny if that is a 23" monitor
Excited? No, not even a little bit. I purchased a larger (24") TN screen last June, and while the fast response is excellent for games, and even the color representation isn't bad (despite the poorer technology), it was the viewing angle that makes it awful. When viewing dark images/videos/text/anything, you're constantly having to sit up and stoop down because when you're looking at the top of the screen, the bottom is unreadable, and vice versa.
NO MORE TN PANELS.
I can get one of the old ones for £140 though!
Am I the only person who finds Samsung TV and Monitor Bezel's to be really ugly?
I would think so. I think they look great.
