Huawei to release T-mobile Android G3 in late 2009... probably

This is all starting to sound semi-official, but still a little vague. Huawei's mysterious Android device -- first spotted at MWC -- is apparently headed out on T-Mobile in late 2009, as reportedly confirmed by a Huawei spokesperson. The same details we've previously heard, including the 5 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headphone jack and WiFi -- are still on the list, though nothing new is emerging thus far. It also seems to be called the G3, but again, it's hard to say if that name is official or not. We'll let you know when we hear something more concrete, but until then... just keep marvelling at the buttonless wonder you see above.

Something something Hyundai something flattery.
"Something, something, something, dark side.
Something, something, something, complete."
well, TIM Brazil announced that they'll carry a Huawei Android phone. is this it?
(BTW, TIM BR also carries the iPhone, as well as competitors Claro and Vivo)
looks like an i-phone minus all the limitations apple imposes.
Count me in!
Yea it does look like an iphone but hey the iphone is a good looking device.. whats wrong with emulating goodness?
Iphone 4g
That won't happen until 2014
personally i doubt this is the new google phone! seriously its not!
I was hoping that the "G#" series would be limited to HTC's phones and would have some kind of continuity in their designs like the G1 and HTC Magic have. Throwing in a completely unrelated phone that just happens to run Android and calling it the G3 just kind of confuses the whole thing.
Not to mention, this design is just really bland and unoriginal compared to the G1 and the Magic. I'm not going to say why, but the dozens of people who said it before me had it right. These Huawei guys didn't even try to put their own spin on it, it's just a blatant carbon copy.
I like it.
So they're gonna skip the g2 and go straight to the g3?
yes cause 3G i mean G3 sounds really cool
Yes it looks a lot like an iphone because of one simple fact.. The iphone has virtually no physical features.. :|
So by stripping anything down to a square with a touchscreen, everything looks like an iphone.
The android heart will make it stand out tho
Those claiming that this looks like an Iphone:
Look closely. It looks like theres a battery cover on the back of the phone. Innovation!!!
Anyone else think that the ring on the front (assumedly the D-pad) looks a little Treo Pro -esque?
thin i like
This should mean bye bye to the Apple iPhone... The iPhones just a well hyped iPod and the iPods just a well advertised MP3 player, lol

Yes, the iPhone is going to just disappear any day now.
What is it with the Apple haters on the Engadget boards? Is the stupid contagious or something?
im going to wait for pre.
( i know off topic, but since everyone here was being off topic, i thought if i were on topic, it would make me even more offtopic.. (get it ) )
Boring looking phone
Please STOP this iPhone crap.
As it was already mentioned, the iPhone is a rectangular touchscreen phone devoid of physical features. Anything and everything can look like an iPhone, even this ashtray standing in front of me.
wtf, going up 2 generations in a year? seems a little unlikely to me...
Finally something that will get me away from the iPhone, don't get me wrong I do love it but starting to get a bit bored of it now, I've been craving basic functions! Aslong as idognbone 3 isn't something thats 110% spot on I'll be seriously considdering this
When will we start seeing phones that can do video calls here in the U.S.??? Seriously, we have 3G now so where's this function?
Anyways, I'd like to trade my G1 for that if and only if that has A2DP already.
Your G1 will have A2DP well before this phone ever comes out.
My G1 already has A2DP :)
what can i say ,incredibly iphonesque.
FUCK, I was hopin something a little sooner. Contract up in July, want the G1, not to much for the G2 but i like this, I hate technology at times, this phone looks hotttttt
How is it different from iPhone
1) Aspect ratio of screen, the iPhone has 1.5 screen aspect ratio (480/320), this device has a much more 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio
2) Much narrower non screen portions above and below the screen on the G3 vs. the iPhone (more screen real estate)
3) Bottom button is a raised chrome circle on the G3, on the iPhone it is a round depression with a chrome square in the middle
4) The iPhone has a chrome bezel lining all the egdges, this one has a smooth 90 degree matte finish
If you ask me touch screen phones are exactly what you see. If it had more buttons it wouldn't be much of a touch screen phone now would it? Its not the hardware that makes the phone. Its the OS and how its incorporated.
For all of you who don't have an iphone, you might want to make it clear to us that this ummm well somehow doesn't resemble an iphone (if you see it with your eyes closed somehow).. But for every other reasonable and rational person out there, this looks almost exactly like an iphone. For a moment i thought engadget put the wrong picture under this title... lol.. Sorry guys, i hate to dissappoint ya but stop kidding yourself, it looks like an iphone, its a clone, but a real good close since its T-mobile, we'd call it fake if some chinese company made it right ? . I understand that making any new touch screen device becomes a challenge as not to make it look like an iphone, but don't you have any creativity of your own, atleast change the color or something..... so anyway......aahem... Guys.... wake up and get real please !! it looks like an iphone .... :-)
I've pointed out 4 differences between the two phones, if you can't see them, then get new reading glasses.
The biggest difference, the G3 is widescreen, your iToy is not! If you still can't see it add a ruler to your Walmart shopping list.
I thought the G2 was the HTC Magic, not meant for US. So it wasn't skipped.
