Rumor mill says Sony Ericsson Idou might be coming this October

It's all a tiny bit hazy, but it sounds like a Sony Ericsson PR rep in Germany has confirmed that the 12 megapixel camera-boasting Idou will be hitting the streets in October. Gustaf Brusewitz of Sony Ericsson Sweden didn't have too much to say about that statement, and only repeated what he'd said in the past -- that the Idou will be shipping "sometime in the second half of the year." Come on Gustaf, throw us a hint!

Unfortunately they're gonna mess this up like they did with the Xperia.
how are they going to ruin it like the Xperia? the xperia was in production for like three years and then was released in a recession asshole its not there fault.
Also, October? that's more a let down i was expecting earlier Q3 so it could come out around about the time as Omnia HD/Huawei iphone/LG Arena and a whole bunch of HTC's etc.

I’m an iPhone fan and developer, and the P910 that I carried for a couple of years makes me ponder the past. But, that does not look like an iPhone. Also, an iPhone is just a screen with a nice package. It is a successful black box. What separates it is the OS. Others may dis the thing, but I have really come to respect the decisions made through developing.\

Wow, and I was screamed at for pointing out how this stuff goes on, and told who this stuff never happens, on another thread.
And yet here it is.
It's not 640 x 320.... it's 640 x 360, even better!!
But copies it badly. 12 MPs??? Give me a break. It's a cellphone. Features for feature's sake. They're just doing this for one-upmanship over the rest of the smartphone crowd. That camera must eat up memory like crazy.

The other day they said on gsmarena.com that iPhone has received "the best cameraphone ever" award, so maybe 2mp isn't that bad. Check it out!
Ahh Sony, didn't you guys learn ANYTHING from the xperia- if you're gonna showcase a device that will create hype, make sure you know when it will be released!!! the X1 was before MWC 08, and wasn't released until October, by which time there was the iphone 3G, HTC touch pro, nokia E71 and the blackberry storm and bold to contend with!!!
Although this device looks great, i worry that SE will fail again and release it too late, when other products are already in the market.
Yup. Just this summer we have Nokia N97, Samsung Omnia HD, (probably) the next Apple iPhone... others? Oh, and the Pre, obviously. So that's the summer, no telling what will be out in the fall before SE finally ships it's big gun.
I was saying something similar in an unrelated thread, yesterday. Sony has just been late to the ball too many times, and then shows up in a disappointing outfit. 12MP is great, but if is even close to the joke that the x1 is in terms of usability, this baby is going down like Chinatown.
Say what you want about the iPhone, but there has yet to be a device as usable that you can make calls from too - and if you don't like having to take that, then influence SE, Nokia, BBerry, etc to change it and stop crying (I had the 1st gen iPhone and currently have an n85 so easy up sport)
I think that they should use the first batch of these as severance pay for the SE execs that have been running the show for the last few years...
Umm.. they only showed it because they didn't have any other product to create any kind of hype for the company.
SE isn't anything better than a failing company who thinks they rule the world.

I read "12 megapixel camera-boasting" an immediately entered smirk-mode. That's more megapixel than my DSLR (actually, it's more than quite a lot of DSLRs) but yet I highly doubt that it is going to produce images to compare. But I suppose this is going to be a product introduced because people still associated more megapixels with better image quality. It would be nice to be proven wrong but on this occasion I don't think it is likely.
what exactly do you look for then? I don't know too much about cameras
Well, it has to be said that a higher number of megapixels are desirable (more detail and an ability to crop in while still retaining sufficent resolution to print at a decent size) but you typically need a larger sensor in order to make use of the higher sensor density without suffering from excessive noise when you start pushing the ISO. Because ISO control is one of the fundamentals of photography I tend to look for a camera that will produce noise-free images at high ISO values, which is pretty important when taking pictures indoors or in low light, which I suspect is something that you'd do quite often with a camera phone. Unless there has recently been some sort of breakthrough, I strongly suspect that a 12-megapixel camera phone with a very small sensor will produce awful pictures at anything above ISO 400.
Don't forget that the Experia X1 was made by HTC for Sony Ericsson. I don't know why, maybe they had no idea how to made a phone with a slide out qwerty keyboard.
I just hope that the new Symbian OS is a lot better than the one on the Nokia 5800.
Personally, I don't like the big sticking out part on the back, surely a camera lens cover can be much smaller than that un-pocket friendly thing they have.
It's interesting the photo seems to be a real photo of a plastic mock-up with a pre-printed screen (look at the curvature in the reflection from the spot-lighting).

by apple blackberry htc etc, im sorry but october is way to late. u moan about getting no money when u waste all ur time shipping 2mp crappy low end phones ? sort it out and actully make some decent phones. i waited a whole year for my c905 wasnt worth it.

I really wish they put the 5D Jog Dial and removable flip from the P-series phones. The latter was great for one-handed use while the latter gives those who want them the physical phone buttons.
