Wii MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort (feat. Disc Dog) out in July

According to a source at Nintendo (the source being Nintendo's website) the company will include its long-awaited, not-yet-duplicated Wii MotionPlus with the upcoming Wii Sports Resort collection, to be bandied about at E3 this June. The sequel to the Wii Sports promises an even greater sense of submersion for games with titles like Sword Play, Power Cruising, and Disc Dog. Disc Dog! According to Tech Radar, the game -- and the device -- will be out in Japan in June, and will then go on to see the light of day in the rest of the world sometime in July. Pricing and specific release dates have yet to be announced, but you'll know as soon as we do -- promise.

Sword Play and Power Cruising? I guess the Wii is going after a different market now with their games.
Yeah, a much larger market than PS3 and XBox 360. So much so, XBox continues to run adds touting the family friendly and not typical gamer games they offer.
There's lots of money to be made in the non-traditional gamer market. Nintendo was smart to play the game of one-upmanship Sony and Microsoft did for most power machine, and instead made a machine that a larger group of people want.
Yeah, City of Portland, Oregon mayor Sam Adams is getting a new game I heard...
Mayor Sam Adams: Twilight Princess
Poink! Funny comment although I think most people missed the joke. In Power Cruising your Mii picks from various colored bandanas then cruises down to the Castro or Weho.
Be sure to wear your Wii-mote Jacket Accessory/Rubber when you sword play.
Does this also mean there's also going to be MySpace Channels available now where if you log in as a 45 year old male it automatically changes your age to 13?
Disk Dog? So now we get to make mii pets?
I doubt this. I think it would be fun and I would like it so Nintendo won't be doing it.
Really Nintendo?
I mean, I love Nintendo, and own a Wii...
But this sounds really lame. I guess they're just not aiming for my age group. I want a really good Wii game to come out...
This system was created and designed for people who DON'T play games. Unfortunately it has paid off incredibly well for Nintendo so there's no chance they will learn their lesson.
More advanced video game players will have to take a back seat this time around in the Nintendo world.
Exactly what lesson do they need to learn? Video games are about profit, like everything else. Microsoft and Sony are in the game for PROFIT. Nintendo is in the game for PROFIT. There's no standards or "lessons" in business. Nintendo has outdone themselves in mass marketing this device to the average consumer, and they should be applauded as long as they've done nothing illegal. I'm no fanboy, I own a 360, but it's silly to think that any corporation really cares about anything except PROFIT.
You can throw a disc and your virtual dog will grab it?
Wow Nintendo. You just keep coming up with crappier and crappier ideas.
You people do realize, this is only coming out to show examples of the Wii-Motion Plus right?
Just like the first Wii Sports demonstrated the Wii-Mote.
Nintendo doesn't need to go crazy with a "demonstration" game. All this game is, is a form of marketting.
I for one think this will be pretty cool, I'll have fun with the jet ski's.
@iamnotafish
Just because you can't headshot the dog, doesn't mean it's crappy. Feedback from E3 was great for this. Basicallly, it's shallow, sure, but surprisingly fun. This game will have HUGE appeal for the new expanded market Nintendo created with the Wii. The only thing Nintendo can really be accused of here is understanding the needs of their broad customer base at an aggregate level. This title will appeal to 1) Families that like to play together 2) Raisins that have worn out what's left of their hips playing Wii Sports bowling 3) Gamers (core included) who enjoy quick play games, and are interested in trying out what Nintendo's engineers have come up with as the next generation of motion-control.
Funny that all these crappy games seem to get more laughs and screams during family get together's than any hardcore games ever did.
Whenever we would play Halo people would scatter and make faces and comments about how much they hated video games.
Nintendo has done something...perhaps unintentionally but they definitely have broken the ice when it comes to the general public and electronic games. They broke that invisible barrier and for that I give them credit.
Future generations of video game consoles will never have to live with that stigma again. There could some day be console that looks decent on your entertainment center.
>Funny that all these crappy games seem to get more laughs and screams during family get together's than any hardcore games ever did.
Well, a loud fart at the family get-together also get a lot of laughs and screams, Should we start classify it as new wave in video game history???
I assume this means no new WaveRace and to a much lesser extent Nintendogs for Wii.
I don't know if it means that. I wouldn't be surprised if you are wrong though. The Wii has definitely been a machine they like to release rehashes instead of revolutions. Re-releasing those titles on the Wii seems like it would fit right along with their current business plan.
Wow...Just wow....
Those graphics....A Sega 32xCD could render. (Genesis with both a 32x and a Sega CD).
The XBoxes still have hardware flaws.
The PS3 is expensive.
And in the handhelds....its even worse. The DS has no real GPU, uses the 66mhz ARM CPU for all tasks. The PSP has very few games. The last console I bought was a DS, and I regret that. The original first gen. Yuck.
What is the point of this comment? Just to say that no console is perfect? Wow, what a discovery you've made. There has only been one perfect console to ever exist, and that was the Super Nintendo.
"The XBoxes still have hardware flaws."
The jury is still out on the latest version.
"The PS3 is expensive"
Wii $250 Wii Fit $90 = $340
PS3 = $400
EVERYONE is going to buy Wii Fit and extra Wii-motes. I have and the ridiculously high sales of Wii Fit and Wii Play month after month seem to agree with my statement. A $60 difference is not that big a deal when you are looking at approaching nearly half a grand for entertainment.
A still valid point is the fact that you can do so much with the PS3. I use it to watch Blu-Ray movies, DVD movies, display sideshows and play music from my home server too. Unless you install home brew and risk voiding your warranty you can't even watch standard DVD's on the Wii.
I own all three systems and like them all for what they are.
As for your argument about the handhelds, you couldn't be more wrong.
Though I hate to admit it the DS has greatly innovated portable gaming. A graphics whore myself I was really disgusted at first by the terrible graphics but they do have some fantastic games on the device and that is ultimately what counts.
As for the PSP not having many games...??? What??? There are a $#!+load of great ones. From Bomberman to God of War and Megaman, Tekken, Crisis Core, Metal Gear, WipeOut, Twisted Metal, Midnight Club, Ridge Racer, Katamari Damaci, Loco Roco, Lumines, Patapon, Field Commander etc. etc.
I have in my long history purchased nearly EVERY single console and portable console and from this experience I can honestly say I have NEVER had such a vast selection of quality games and features. Even the Wii and DS with their inherent deficiencies have some fantastic first party titles that make them worth the expense.
I knew buying the Wii that I was buying a Mario player and that was OK.
I knew buying the 360 that Microsoft was rushing a product to stand by their claim that they would be first out the gate and I was prepared for the issues because I knew the original would be abandoned as they do with everything they (Microsoft) create that gets updated.
I knew buying the PS3 that I was paying more than I ever have for a game console but I also knew that I was not only buying a game console anymore.
It is a great time to be into video games right now.
You're just poor!
most hardware problems for the 360 are because people set them on a carpet floor or in a tv stand and they have no way of breathing
Oh, did you buy the optional x360 levitation pack? I'm pretty sure I've put everyone of my consoles (including the equally if not more powerful ps3) on the floor or in a tv stand. Where the hell are you supposed to put it?
My tower sits on a carpet floor and it's just dandy. My old roommates are on their 7th xbox 360, and they keep it on an open shelf. Why must you feel the need to
make excuses for MS, fanboy?
Well NoAndThen I do see his point. He just wasn't specific.
You are NOT supposed to set the 360 on a carpet. Your PC tower shouldn't either BUT PC Towers are much larger and case developers know this will happen so you can see the bottom of your computer case is pretty solid. No breathing holes.
The 360 has ventilation holes on the top and bottom. It has rubber feet that are supposed to be place on a hard surface so air could still travel into those breathing holes. On a carpet, the plush-ness may press against those holes and fill the system with not only static and lint but heat.
As for the TV stand since he mentioned there was no way for it to breath I think he meant a TV stand within a closed cabinet.
With that said though I still won't agree that MOST hardware problems were the consumers fault.
I for one took fantastic care of my equipment and I was still killed by the Crimson Triad, TWICE! I have an open entertainment center and it just died. I do remember reading before the system's release that it was designed to be liquid cooled. Then they stripped that technology to reduce the price or meet the release date. That is pure speculation but it made a lot of sense considering we were receiving a lot of "leaked" information about heat issues long before the systems release.
I bought Wii Play for the remote. I bought Wii Fit for the balance board. Now I follow with Wii Resorts. But now I will have to buy one or two more for my other Wii-motes. I will admit that I end up playing more WiiWare games then my Wii Games themselves. Guess I am too lazy to get up and change the disc. That is why I play Animal Crossing everyday
I was pretty dismayed that they didn't come through with some of the promises made for A.C. I was looking forward to watching my wife squeal in cuteness and joy when notes and gifts were left by people who came to visit.
Oh and friend codes are the work of the Devil I tell you!
wow i was thinking the motion thingy was vaporware since we hadnt heard anything about it since e3 looking forward to seeing it in action.
I think Nintendo just jumped the gun. They thought, like the rest of us, that Microsoft was going to announce some motion controller or peripheral so they tried to steal their thunder by announcing their new product early.
I think they jumped the shark.
SWORDS!!! With Wii MotionPlus!
I have a feeling that's the only game I'm gonna ever play in th Wii Sports Resort (much like I only play Tennis and Bowling in Wii Sports), but... SWORDS!!! With Wii MotionPlus!
Its kind of like sharks with freaking lasers on their heads but cooler.
NOTHING is cooler than sharks with frikkin' lasers on their heads.
But anyway lol I cannot wait for this. i really want to see the other games. I mean in game games like we have jetskiing frisbee catching and sword fighting. The others are what intrests me.
hahaha maybe now all those fad-chasers who bought a wii because it was "THE HOT NEW THIING!!!" will have a reason to dust off their worthless gamecube-repackage for a few more minutes before it returns to disuse.
So, it pretty much looks like win... Except for the dog...

There's good news for serious gamers--Red Steel 2 will feature the Motion Plus functionality as well as the next Legend of Zelda game. Beats tossing around a frisbee!
