HTC Touch Diamond2 hitting Taiwan this month
According to MobileTechReview the HTC Touch Diamond2 is due out this month in Taiwan. Local price is NT$21,900 (US$648.93) and it'll come with a 8GB memory card inside the box. Still no US release date, but with the UK version reportedly launching next week, we wouldn't be surprise if April was the lucky month for a stateside debut, as well.

Not if it's another idiotic phone with no headphone jack.
Mark Anderson @ Apr 10th 2009 2:14PM
No 3.5mm jack, no sale.
iphonerulez @ Apr 10th 2009 8:17PM
What the hell happened to the HTC Touch Diamond1? They sold a million and now they're on to version 2? WTF. This isn't the DeLorean of phones. This is more like the Edsel of phones.
Alex @ Apr 11th 2009 12:13AM
@iphonerulez The Diamond will be a year old in May.
Xoxidine @ Apr 10th 2009 4:15AM
Can't wait.
glenskey @ Apr 10th 2009 4:18AM
please dont encourage violance engadget, taiwan may have mixed feelings about the matter but it does mean you can encourage HTC.
robert76 @ Apr 10th 2009 4:21AM
yeah its awesome
KilgoreTrout @ Apr 10th 2009 6:44AM
No it's not awesome.
I look forward to replace my TouchHD but not with this thing.
Where is the fabled Thoth , HTC?
And the Super Star?
Gimme something serious HTC or I'm gonna grab an N97 as soon as I see one.
aceofspade19 @ Apr 10th 2009 4:23AM
hopefully they fixed that unresponsive interface.
Hamidxa @ Apr 10th 2009 4:24AM
It can be updated to WM 6.5, which is ultra responsive compared to WM 6.1, especially the Touch Flo.
Lundmark @ Apr 10th 2009 6:05AM
They won't. It still uses Windows Mobile, which is like having Windows 98 on your PC.
Hamidxa @ Apr 10th 2009 7:17AM
And the troll bait award of the thread goes to:
Lundmark
Congrats
deadpool @ Apr 10th 2009 10:27AM

That's the least attractive shot I've seen of the touch diamond 2! Post a few more and you may save me a few quid.
soundbbg @ Apr 10th 2009 5:31AM
that's very nice, i just want that phone
Kit @ Apr 10th 2009 4:53AM
Unlike USA, people in other countries generally do not have to buy locked phones...
Even if you contract with a network, the phone generally remain unlocked, that's why the price is significant expensiver when compared.
EI8HT @ Apr 10th 2009 5:33AM
expensiver??? wtf
VDKA @ Apr 10th 2009 5:38AM
Yes it's like how the Diamond 2 is "gooder" than the Diamond.
Alex @ Apr 11th 2009 12:12AM
I've never see an unlocked or unbranded HTC sold by a carrier. All mine have been CID clocked, though, it's easy to unlock.
digitallysick @ Apr 10th 2009 5:00AM
Its to bad it runs winmo
Information Central @ Apr 10th 2009 5:03AM
It's too bad you can't spell "too."
EI8HT @ Apr 10th 2009 5:35AM
or it's
munir @ Apr 10th 2009 5:24AM
i love the design of HTC phones, but cmon, where the hell is the 3.5mm headphone jack??
Mike Litoris @ Apr 10th 2009 9:02AM
Who listens to music on their cell phone? That's about the only good thing that apple makes (ipod classic).
Mikeweezer @ Apr 10th 2009 12:23PM
I don't listen to music on my phone, but then again I have a Touch Pro which makes it a royal pain in the *** to do so. Probably would if it were easier.
Should've waited for the Pre :(
Abuzar Baloach @ Apr 10th 2009 6:51PM
The Zune is definitely better than the iPod Classic. Just sayin.
Jon @ Apr 10th 2009 5:27AM
So verizon gets the touch the same month the touch2 comes out? Wow verizon, nothing says best network like being a generation behind in the hardware.
sean @ Apr 10th 2009 5:39AM
fantastic..and Verizon is getting the HTC Touch Diamond what today? While the HTC Touch Diamond 2 is coming out this month. Fantasssssstic 300 bucks for old hardware on contract.
Kaitian @ Apr 10th 2009 5:48AM
I'm more interested in knowing when the Touch Pro2 is coming to the US rather than this phone :)
Lundmark @ Apr 10th 2009 6:07AM
Yet another sucky iPhone clone
EI8HT @ Apr 10th 2009 6:17AM
i have an iphone, and this looks nothing like it fucktard
Vince @ Apr 10th 2009 6:36AM
Listed on play.com (uk) that it's shipping next friday. :D
Down @ Apr 10th 2009 6:30AM
The Diamond looked better.
MaxSMoke @ Apr 10th 2009 8:39AM
Let me know when they're going to put back the flipp'n camera button from the original Touch! I absolutely HATE fishing through menus just to take a picture. They can keep the Back and Home keys, none of which I ever use on the Diamond or Touch Pro. Just give me a camera button!
Semler @ Apr 10th 2009 8:47AM
Where do you insert the cassette?
Mike Litoris @ Apr 10th 2009 9:00AM
I think it looks good. A full touch screen that doesn't look like a piece of crap iPhone. Why not Android though?
tristan88 @ Apr 10th 2009 9:00AM
i actually like the looks of the first one better. this one reminds me of a car from the 1980s, all boxy.
oversteer325 @ Apr 10th 2009 9:40AM
Introducing the HTC TouchDiamond2, "The Delorean of phones!".
I'll wait till WM7 is released.
Shank @ Apr 10th 2009 10:17AM
Wow such a feature rich winmo smartphone, should
Have no problem killing the iPhone right,?
NOT!!!!!!keep wishing ,no iphonekiller here.!
Shank @ Apr 10th 2009 10:21AM
So close to iPhone 3.0, is there someone out there that really
Aspire to own this over iPhone 3,.?
Sluggish winmo loaded, pathetic.
Kennyb123 @ Apr 10th 2009 11:28AM
I'll never go with an Iphone over WinMo... I really like having background applications. In fact, it's been a deal-breaker from the start. I want an OS that let's me do what I want to do, not what THEY want me to do. I also don't like the fact that the UI is just a glorified app loader.
The fact that the Iphone is JUST getting cut/copy/paste and MMS this summer with the 3.0 is just comical...but at least you apple fans can finally stop hearing about it from those of us who have used it for years.
Apple needs to release a phone with a higher resolution, a removable battery, and a fully-functional bluetooth stack. (The better bluetooth is apparently becoming available to the Iphone 3G only, with the firmware update. Why they COULD have done it, and didn't until this point, is beyond me. )
boe @ Apr 10th 2009 11:16AM
It sure is clunky!
Why the hell can't they make a nice slim phone like the Toshiba TG01?
http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/17/toshiba-tg01-hands-on-and-video-walkthrough/
Does the battery on this Diamond last more than a few hours? THe last one died mid day even without making any calls.
Does the Bluetooth on the Diamond 2 actually work well? The Diamond and just about every HTC phone has crappy BT - the touch was one of the better BT units - but still not as good on the BT on most free phones.
How is the radio on this one? The Diamond CDMA version sucked big moose you could go from 3 bars to disconnected while sitting at your desk.
Epsilon-Not @ Apr 10th 2009 1:53PM
What I don't understand about this phone is, why did they get rid of the D-pad?
Alex @ Apr 11th 2009 12:20AM
To fit the screen on :(
Using the Diamond I miss the softkeys and Mail/Web keys on the Hermes.
mattemer @ Apr 11th 2009 9:54AM
This phone is going to effin rock. Right out of the box, the only complaint i had about my diamond is the battery, then a not so much complaint, but hinderance (sp?) was the lack of expandable memory. Now i'm running a custom ROM on there, and the batter lasts from 7:00am until i put it on the charger, anywhere from 11pm-2am. I will talk on it, listen to music (who uses 3.5mm audiojacks??? BT headphones, welcome to the land of wireless connectivity - and they sound SO much better than they did even a year ago!), check my email, do a few dozen texts, and run around on the net using opera. People only complain about the diamond when they don't know how to use one, and if you don't know how to use one (or any wm phone for that matter) you shouldn't have one. My phone's destroyed any side by side comparison to the iphone me and my friends have done, and it fits in my front pocket! DIAMOND2?!?!?!?! come on folks, you have got to be kidding me! if the iphone is the Jesus phone, then the diamond 2 is the the JUDAS PHONE! (diamond1 already was IMO). happy easter! :)
jeproqs @ Apr 10th 2009 3:34PM
Man, if only the G1 looked like that...
