Update: Based on discussions with sources, it's looking very likely that the device in these images is -- in fact -- a new Zune on its way to market.

I own a Z30, original, I honestly hope they start fixing the Zune software. I have yet to play with a Z80, but with my experience with the Z30, I'm saving up for an iPod Touch + JailBreaking it. If this is real, along with a software upgrade I'm *SO* getting it, otherwise, back to playing around with PMP until I get some freedom!

What's wrong with the software now? It runs better than iTunes in any given situation. If you don't like the Zune's software, you won't like iTunes at all.
Hmm, Zune HD Running WM (6.7?) with Zune software. Ill take one.
6.5 already has a zune-ish look, and the next service pack could very well introduce even more before 7. But too bad it is just a PMP and not a phone.
I hope it has a speaker for times when I don't want to use headphones.

You, sir, are an idiot. The Zune as always looked good, but this is just beyond words, more beautiful than an iPod Touch. So basically it is lipstick on an already beautiful thing.

Fly to Florida and by 10 or so and take them back for resell.The plane ticket is cheap enough and you will make a tidy profit in the end. =)

Quick Apple! Please make a deal with Netflix (before Microsoft expands their current Xbox deal to include the Zune HD) and add change the iPhone and iPod Touch displays to HD...
Glad to see that they are doing a complete refresh on the zune...I love my first generation zune, and I hope that at some point people would actually begin to respect it for what it is: an iPod killer.
And how many iPod killers have there been exactly?! I still haven't seen one yet, do your self a favour and stop using such redundant titles.
In a way, an HD media player makes little sense. The screen is too small for the human eye to discern too deep a variation in the resolution.

That's true. However, if Microsoft expanded the Zune Marketplace and integrated it into Media Center and merged it with the XBox Marketplace, it would be cool to be able to download one HD movie file that could be played on a number of devices including the Zune without the need to re-encode. Then the ability to play HD video on a Zune starts to make a lot more sense.

I'm curious about the prospects of such a holistic Microsoft media experience. I'm sort of living that dream right now, since I have an Apple TV, which works with iTunes video that can live on my PC, iPhone and iPod.
The potential advantage Microsoft would have is that computers with Windows Media Center already support some IPTV and DVR capabilities.
I'll stay tuned to see what Microsoft has up their sleeves.

Wow, if you have never owned a PMP up to now, I'm guessing nothing will change your mind. Do you use a Walkman cassette player? Or do you just prefer to hum your favorite tunes?
I've had to make do on a CD player and music-capable cell phone since my old Zune was stolen. You kind of get used to it. Not quite as bad as it sounds, but every once in a while I mess around with my girlfriend's Zune and reminisce...

A recent Ars Technica post seemed to point to a worldwide Zune release. Don't buy that iPod until this hardware refresh just to be sure.

It is good to know where I can buy an HD player in 3 months when they're marked down due to lack of public acceptance /sales. HD is nice but when you consider the sh_tty software that M$ uses I'm really not a buyer at any price.

Ehh.... they both have touchscreens, you mean? Now, comparisons to the HTC device were alright, but I don't see any relative resemblance to these phones.
This means one thing: The new iphone/ipod touch will be HD. otherwise Apple will blunder the next iteration, something they're not known for.... so, NEW IPHONE/IPOD - HD ! YES!

The device looks good, but its the software that kills it. My bet is that its gonna have a crippled version of WinMo, and I think games are gonna be a little tricky because of the grip, i dont see how sideways gaming would be good on it.
