Homemade NES purse is so voguish, so for sale
C'mon, don't even front here -- you can't deny the frisson in taking one look at the masterpiece above. We know, there's a never-ending stream of NES-related doodads flowing from every possible direction, but it's not everyday that you get the opportunity to actually purchase one of these amazingly beautiful creations. Designer inhope has clearly and definitively one-upped that other NES purse with the Nintendo Controller Purse, and you can be the proud owner of one for just $39.99. An irrefutable bargain, we say.

A little ugly; if you're making a NES controller purse, you might as well take the time to make it look FWAAAABULOUTH. Also, as a guy, I could totally see myself with a similar murse or traveling bag.
Soon to be at your nearest Hot Topic.
so that's why it's so poorly made
I guess the person who made this didn't have a ruler or any other straight edge, huh?
It's accenting the homemade-ness. But you're right, it just looks like shite.
that is really crappily constructed
It is because it is a fake Chinese 3rd party controller they modeled it after.
it's not industrially designed... and it must have been stitched by humans instead of robots that's why it looks poorly made and low quality for man bags
I'm sorry, its a good idea and all, but the stitching is terrible. Spend a little more time next go around and it'll be better I'm sure, but for now perhaps I'll throw the idea at my sister and see what she does with it.
Could they stitch that any worse?
wow they even have a wifi bar with the three lines
Wow, what a lame attempt to tap into retro culture. Mass produced garbage without any heart.
except this isn't mass produced
Oops, I should have read the full article :[
It's just too out of proportion though.
For all the people saying "could they stick it any worse"... It may only be my opinion, but I think that the eschewed nature of it was intentional. The stitches are steady and consistent in terms of spacing... a sort of consistent inconsistency if that makes any sense.
Either that or I am so bothered by the unnatural look of the d-pad that I am trying to justify the abomination with intent :P I cant be certain!
my first thought about seeing this post was "is someone's girlfriend at engadget making crappy NES bags?"

It seems to me that the erratic nature of the cuts of the material was intentional. All the stitches are spaced well and straight, it's the cuts of the material that makes it look all crazy, which looks pretty on purpose to me. I think it gives it more character then it would have if everything was perfectly straight and matching.
Yeah, you keep telling yourself that...
;)
Agreed. It's a pretty cute bag, especially for the price, and the "organic" stitching is obviously a result of the intended "homebrew" character. I think it's charming. If you want a bit more of the sterile, Hong Kong-factory-knock-off look, I'm sure there're a few dozen manufacturers who'll be happy to make your perfect circles. Orders of 1000+ only, please.
Except this thing actually looks like it was manufactured by an 8 year old.
People still have sewing machines y'know, you can see where the tracks end - so for all those people saying "the stitches are spaced well", that's why.
Oh and saying the stitches are straight is a redundant point, of course they're straight, it's a line between two points, they could be all over the place in the worst pattern - but they'd still be taut and straight.
I think the design is fine, but i have more of a problem with the material. The homemade-ness is nice, but it also looks like anyone with a sewing machine could knock it up with a few strips of felt and faux leather.
Pity it looks like crap, the circles are not quite circular and there are no straight lines at all.
Ugly and the stitching is bad:( they need someone to cut a circle for them
IT'S A BAG!!!!! CALM DOWN!!!!!!!!! LMAO.
Frisson? Nice word of the day thanks to my dictionary.com iPhone app.
Yea, no kidding. Looks like they spent a whole 12 seconds cutting & sewing to make that! Funny!
This purse is very beatiful ,and very interesting.
This is very good design.
Thank you for sharing!!

I would like to clarify for those of you that are not sewing savvy:
1. This is an extremely clever design. I sew a lot and would have never come up with using the different colors of PVC in layers like that. I admire the 3-D creativity here.
2. PVC is REALLY hard to work with. Stitching by hand will leave you with sore fingers, to say the least. This however, was done with a machine...so easy right? Not so much. The PVC sticks to the parts of the machine that other materials simply glide along. This causes the wobbly lines on the curved portions. In addition, the sticking of the PVC makes lock stitching (when you see the thread doubled up, it's from going backward over where you just sewed to make sure it doesn't come undone) REALLY hard. It also messes with the tensions on the machine (makes it look uneven).
3. I'd have to look closer, but it looks like they used standard thread. I always use either denim topstich thread or button/craft thread when working with PVC, ESPECIALLY if you're using a contrast like that.
All-in-all I think it's a great piece of work, and I might just make one for myself!!
um. i sew a lot myself, and i think the main issue here is not the stitching (which really isn't -too- bad) but the fact that the fabric was cut so laughably terribly. the pieces themselves are crooked, and that of course can easily be remedied by doing some quick hand stitches to make sure the pieces are in the proper positions before machine-sewing. not to mention the fact that it doesn't even look much like a real controller.
$40 for this trash? you've got to be kidding. besides, NES purses are a dime a dozen these days; here's something that's truly unique: http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2006/10/27/homemade-ds-case-brings-back-retro/
I'm partial to my Nintendo messenger bag that I got a few years back. It's black, has the Nintendo logo on a sliding shoulderpad on the strap, has little zipper pulls with the Nintendo logo, and a rubber NES controller sewn onto the front flap for a subtle, yet awesome gamer-girl touch.
I think the best part is it is really cool, for guys or girls. Any time I've been in public with it, I get a lot of compliments on it, and frankly I think it looks a lot cooler than the above purse. I mean, if you're going to do the NES controller at least make the pieces symmetrical and look real :(
Not to mention....that bag doesn't look very sturdy. I've had mine for going on three years now, and you'd never know it was over a few days old.
Oh, and I only paid 20 bucks for it, with shipping =P
