Dream Cheeky's USS Enterprise webcam exudes charm and class
Now that it's legal for George Takei to get married in Iowa, what better way to celebrate than by letting your "Trek flag" fly in your home or office? The USS Enterprise-themed USB webcam features an adjustable focus, and the red engine lights (or whatever they are) actually, you know, light up. For maximum realism, we guess. And the cable is adorned with the Star Fleet Insignia although, sadly, it will not function as a communicator. It is just a TV series, you know. No word on release date or price, but we're keeping our eyes peeled.

my brother is totally going to get that
your right, I am totally going to get this.
Something tells me we're gonna see that on the tv show The Big Bang Theory. :)
crapgadget if i have ever seen one..awesome!
Seconded.
Crapgadget.
Thirded.
forthed
crapgadget and KIRF
It would've been more perfect if the Starfleet insignia acts as a mute toggle button.
And excludes accuracy, by the looks of it.
But I'm not a geek.
Don't know how to contact Engadget but "www.zunehd.net" is live.
Sorry for posting here.
Don't worry, I can still see the ZUNEHD on the top-right.
Ummm, you can't see the link saying "Tip us on news!" underneath the Search bar?
Tried days ago, but nothing happen.
maybe it doesn't have enough info for a blog post?
Maybe several dozen others have already tipped on this information. As a result, they're prolly taking their time writing the blurb for it. Or, maybe, it just isn't relevant.
Actually, more or less, I'm thinking you sent the tip, but are expecting a response. DON'T EXPECT ONE. They're not obligated to do that.
Microsoft said that the www.zunehd.net is not hosted by Microsoft.
What does this have to do with the article?
In TOS, the Starfleet insignia was nothing but an embroidered patch, so it is "true to form" that it NOT be a microphone/communicator. That didn't happen until TNG. However, I doubt that was actually taken into consideration in the design of this atrocity. I've outgrown my addiction to Trek, but something about this is pulling at me. Make it stop.
outgrown your trek addiction!? But how will your mom get the hot pockets & juice to you if you know longer live in her basement? Oh snap!
(the sisko 4EVA)
Giving yourself an "oh snap" is just...sad.
Also in TOS, the Starfleet insignia had no "halo." It was merely the stylized assymetrical arrowhead shield.
in that case we should also comment that the enterprise didn't have a giant camera with lights on the side
We have the other 3 USB gadgets here:
http://www.neonpunch.com/star-trek-usb-gadgets-final-frontier/
And posting an interview with their Marketing Director soon!
" live long and prosper"
"peace and long life."
Using the godlike speed of the USS Enterprise to its full advantage, you capture the 9 frames at the same time, this makes blurring and overexposure useless. This is the USS Enterprise's, webcam.
Finally, got what I was looking for!! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it.
Those "whatever they are" would be the warp drive engine nacelles.
But I'm not a Trekkie....
Thank you for imparting that - I was wondering if someone was going to help Engadget out.
(not being sarcastic either, honestly - I know sometimes things come across wrong over the internet.)
I'm surprised it took so long for someone to jump on that
He's dead Jim.
Even spock lifts both eyebrow to them...
At the risk of sounding like a star trek nerd.... Hell who am i kidding, I am one. Stricktly speaking the insignia on the cable/stand is from the TNG series, while the webcam part is from the Original 1960's series. Bit of a clash, but I needed to say something about it.
This and a USB hub Tardis.. nerdgasm
I am definitely getting this to go with my TARDIS USB HUB (and my Dalek webcam)!
err... why didn't they made it into a reading light? Couldn't they have made all those spotlights on the model, make it look like the ones in the movies, highlighting the Ship Registration Number
Man, you guys really missed a ship-load of opportunities on this one. I would have chuckled (rightly so, judging from the pic) if this had been listed under crapgadget, but calling it "just" a TV show is rather disappointing Engadget.
Fail. Get thrown in the brig for twenty light years (and yes, I realize that is a unit of distance, not time).
despite all the fanbois out there for Star Trek and all the other stuffs that ties into it, it is just another TV series, what is wrong with that?
As a long time fan all I have to say is OH NOES! :(
As if we don't all know they are Bussard Collectors!
Come on! We're all friends here...
Wow! And talk about timely!
Hell, the original Star Trek just came out—what?—barely 32 years ago?
With a brand new movie based on that series coming out in a few months. So yes, rather timely.
"It is just a TV series, you know. "
Heretic!
/S
Awww, this is adorable. Maybe a trekkie got the idea by thinking:
"Hmmm, if everyone on the Internet could watch my future hot girlfriend and I having relations in my bedroom, they would certainly stop calling me geek. Yeah, that should work. When she sees herself having such a good time with me she will definitely, without a doubt, become my girlfriend once and for all! But... that would rip apart the time-space continuum by creating a paradox. And that could... destroy the Universe! But I have to take a chance. I have to prove them wrong. I have to show them how not-geek I am! (and also not die a virgin.)
So, where should I hide the camera?"
Ewww.
Make it not so.
That communicator is from TNG while the ship is TOS
Just seeing this everytime I make a skype would piss me off so much
No one would ever skype with me again
LOL. In a heartbeat.
This would piss my family off every time they saw it.
And I'd be very pleased.
This is most illogical.
This reminds me of the Estes Enterprise model rocket. I know it's not logical, but that's what it reminded me of.
