Nikon D5000 official pics leak out
Well, well, what do we have here? It seems Nikon's still unannounced D5000 can't seem to wait for an official unveil. Israeli site DTown has published what appears to be legit press photos for the DSLR, with its articulating display vividly highlighted. Also take note the lens being shown is a 18-55mm VR, which is Nikon's term for image stabilization -- it looks like this might be what comes packaged in a bundle. Between this and the product page from earlier today, we think it's safe to conjecture this little guy might be making an appearance at tomorrow's Nikon press event. Check out another picture after the break, or hit up the read link for the full gallery.

Are you blind? There are buttons at the side, fool. If the hinge is on the side then there's nowhere to put the buttons. The buttons on the bottom would not be a good idea, since it does not speak true to Nikon's design language in their lineup.
Why did they place the articulating joint at the bottom of the camera? That's a stupid location for that - it should be located on the side. Part of the reason for having an articulating screen is so that you can see yourself in the screen when the camera lens is facing you.
So basically when the camera is on a tripod, facing you, along with the screen, the tripod will be blocking the view of the screen. Real smart. Duh.
Pass.
Oh, and the buttons to the left of the screen could be placed somewhere else. No one is so lazy that they couldn't operate those buttons if they were placed in another location.
Another problem with having the joint on the bottom, is that if the camera is facing you along with the screen, you could never set the camera on a table without a tripod, which I've often done with the current Canon I own that also has a rotatable screen.
I love Nikon, but if you're going to bother integrating an articulating screen, do it right.
Totally not a problem to change button placement for you.
Why not just make the LCD bigger and use a touchscreen?
Your bad.
@ko.melody

Uhhhh, OK. I didn't understand a single thing you said. What does a bigger LCD and a touchscreen have to do with anything I wrote? And why is it 'my bad'? Hard day at the office?
Perhaps the issue of me suggesting that Nikon redesign the camera and place buttons in different locations is too taxing of a discussion for you. Or maybe you mistakenly thought I was talking about switching button placement via magic. Either way, I would suggest lots of fresh air, and don't forget to breathe deeply.
the reason they don't move the buttons is that people who have been using Nikon's (like myself) will have to take that extra second to look for the actual buttons and possibly miss their shot.
@hoopspenguin
Hmmm... I'm not buyin' it, brother. I know some people say that, but seriously, how long could it take to get accustomed to buttons placed on another side of the screen? Five minutes?
I wish nikon would come up with better names. I bet a lot of people who don't know crap about cameras, and who may want to buy their first SLR, will think this is better than the D90 just because it's a D5000.
@ Saad Rabiesm, I think that a photographer who is worth his salt will do some research before buying a lens. I doubt the go to b&h, close their eyes and point to pick out a lens. I tried that once it didn't work out too well.
This or Canons t1i ?
I'm surprised there are this many people who think Canon=pro. I always thought Nikon was the snob's camera.
(Disclosure: My digital all-purpose is a Canon S80, my Photo I class camera is a Nikon FE2.)

It has a 230K pixel screen the rebel T1i (500D) has a 920k pixel screen. Bummer, I think the 920k screen much nicer then a swiveling screen. To each their own.
"Israeli site DTown has published what appears to be legit press photos"
at least give the credit to the right people...it was NIKON RUMORS who published those pictures first

If this is, in fact, a replacement for the D60, it'd be a very worthwhile upgrade.
That said, I'll continue to shoot Pentax. I still believe the K20D is much better value for money.
Oooh...smexy
I'd be willing to bet say $1000 that those who never used a flip screen are those who whine about it.
Used once, your hooked.
No more face plants in the dirt in prone sniper position.
Whether sloppy wet snow, mud, etc.
You got the killer view, and 'they' only wished it.
Who cares if I have 15k in Canon.
if I want a flip screen like my old G5, then dammit so be it.
Just make a kit with a 17 - 80mm fast f2.8 or better, then I'm in.
Video Too?, Cool.
I think Nikon just kicked a little Canon butt in this price range.
I see just a slight issue with bottom pivot vs side, being I have used the style for 6 years.
Now the screen is in the way under the camera if you want a behind you table view.
Those left body buttons could be added to the area gained moving screen over a tad.
Not a huge deal.
This next option might be pushing it a bit, but add built in stealth remote fob to make the adjustments by remote bluetooth.
Now the freaked out subjects like pets or mental humans who can't stand it when there is a big eye staring at them attached to your face that think they are being executed, then run a hide.
