Palm Pre spotted just minding its own business in San Fran?
We can't vouch for the authenticity of these shots, but the fact that there's fully five of them posted certainly lends some element of legitimacy. What's more, the first half '09 window is still very much confirmed by Palm, so let's be honest: there pretty much have to be Pres floating around in some circles at this point. We didn't necessarily anticipate "some circles" to mean "two peeps chilling at San Francisco's Bring Your Own Wheel race," but hey, whatever works. Catch another glorious shot in the wild after the break.

OMG
Holy snap!
i know right?! disney hooked up frickin' zack n cody of all people wit a couple pres!
Do you think the guy in the white shirt is screaming cause he's about to die on a Big Wheel, or because he just saw the Pre in the wild?
Had my wifes blackberry curve fixed on Friday. Sprint employee was mad that he was next in line to get a free phone from Corporate to play with and train other employees on the use of during the launch. A 10 year veteran technician in the back room was ASSIGNED the phone. He has had it for 9 days counting today.
@Johnathan, I LOL'd. :-)
@ Jonathan
Hahahahahaha
What I want to know is, if you can get close enough to breathe down the back of their shirt, why wouldn't you just tap them on the shoulder and say, "hey man, can I get a look at your Pre?"
I just let them borrow mine.
You did no such thing because this is 'shopped!
Those kids look about thirteen, why do they get Pres? :(
Those aren't just any rich thirteen year old kids. Those are the only teenagers in North America who didn't want an iPhone. Palm took their one chance at making the Pre cool and ran with it...
Seriously?! Why do some loser teenagers get this beauty while the rest of us are patiently waiting the seccond coming of the cell phone? This sucks. I WANT!
Since when do 13 year olds define cool? Methinks you just jumped at the chance to shamelessly promote Apple's coolness. Very sad.
13 year olds in general? Not cool.
13 year olds who get their pictures posted all over the web? Very cool.
probably sons of corporate workers..
or sons of beaches...
Because they are prepubescents.
Thank you, thank you. I'm here all night....
so are probally some spoiled brats who have parents that work at Palm and are getting them for free or for testing
GTFO. How old are those dudes, they look 15.
WHY DO 15 YEAR OLDS HAVE PLAM PRE'S?
Who the fuck knows? Maybe their dad works for Palm.
I'm not sure, but more importantly WHY DO 15 YEAR OLDS HAVE PALM PRE'S?
I'm turning 15 tomorrow. I want one.
@sjs2626
i see what you did there sir.
@Frostblade10
Why does it always have to be "their dad". Is Palm known for not employing mothers?
@ sjs2626
PALM TREES ?
Just reinforces my dislike for teens......
if that includes legals then we have a problem.
Cause you were never one :)
@ipodrulz: To be fair, I hated teenagers when I was one, and that wasn't that long ago.
Thats not fare!
"FAIR"
@holycow
All hail Grammar Nazi!
...grammar? Do you even know what grammar is...?
Yeah, she's married to grampa.
To be fair, it's not a fare either.
Why do they have Palm Pres?
They have "monies".
They look 16. I'll admit it...I would have jumped them to have a Pre right now. Palm is driving me to violence.
I was thinking the same thing...
but not the violence definition..
Im sure its their parents that were given the Pre's early. Just means my new Pre is coming sooner then i thought..
KEEP BUILDING THE HYPE SPRINT/PALM im sure weve all learned what over the top HYPE can do for a product.
...says the guy who's avatar reminds me of "Assassin's Creed"
You know, RIM hyped the everloving shit out of the Blackberry Storm and its "click screen", how well did that work out for them? Here's a hint: Hype doesn't make a product good. A product doesn't get to be as popular as the iPhone simply because of hype. As the Storm was kind enough to show us, if a product sucks then people will stop buying it when the hype wears off.
The only way to be a continuing success like the iPhone is to have a product that doesn't suck. Hype has nothing to do with it. It remains to be seen if the Pre will outlast its initial hype like the iPhone did.
You know there are plenty of other products which are very sturdy which you could have used as an example and not betrayed yourself as an iPhone supremacist.
Oh, little defensive about the Storm, are we? Well suck it up junior, maybe next time you won't get emotionally involved with an inferior product. And no, the Storm sucking has nothing to do with the iPhone... aside from the fact that the Storm was trying to compete with it.
*GENERAL OUTRAGE*!!!1!!!!
i call 'shopped or fake
-unless they are beta testers for their age group or their parents are working on the palm pre's software/hardware
if i'm wrong, oh well
Maybe their parents were the ones taking the picture and wanted to get the hype going on the internet?
That's possible, it does look a little staged. I would say that those are the real deals though.
Why do they look like their off? Either the screen res and lighting are really shit or this is a non working product or just a fake. On the second pic you can clearly see the reflection on there.
They seem to be recording video on their Pre! YAAAAAYYY!
Of course it has vid rec.
Let me guess your phone has no video!
Its either 1991 or you have fruit!
I wanted to start that rumor. even if they are just taking pictures I hope you can do it without unfolding the keyboard. Since they changed the swipe up to card view you can use the button now.
@Sergio,
Wrong on both fronts. Its neither 1991 nor do I have the fruit (used to, but decided to upgrade). I am a proud owner of the G1 eagerly awaiting the cupcake for my pleasure. :)
The way they're holding it looks kinda strange.
Lucky bastards.
They are probably taking a recording of the event. That would make sense by the way they hold the phone, since it would be fairly precarious to try and hit the camera button like that.
Rest of the shots here --- http://bananachunks.com/drool-pre-in-the-wild
I hereby command, er, humbly request that the plural of "Pre" be officially spelled differently that "Pres" which will likely be pronounced like "press."
Options? (they all sound like "frees"), but don't really work grammatically.
"Prees"
Preeze
Preez
So, I suggest, simply,
Pre (serving as both the singular and plural of "Pre"
(I like this option best)
SO what if they aren't real words! pffft! Can we do something about this? Pretty Preeze?
THe next step is to describe a group of Pre together........A "gaggle" Pre --- A "brood" of Pre --- A "cry" of Pre -- A "mute" of Pre -- or, my favorite..a "smack" of Pre (like a smack of jellyfish)... more are here: http://www.rinkworks.com/words/collective.shtml
afaik, 'Pre phones' will be the official term for plural form of Pre. =P
I agree...I kept reading it as 'press'.
My vote goes to 'Prees."
even though it's not grammatically correct either, what about Pre's?
I hereby u stfu
i read it like "preys"
What about a "school" of Prees. Or, if you prefer, Pre-school.
Man...where did they get it from? I want one, too! :(
Zero to 1 million in 72 hours
Can it ever be done,?
Will any cell carrier ever repeat such a feat?
Will people lust after it as much as iPhone on July 11 2008?
Or is this just overhype,.??
Well here is the thing, hype can only get you so far initially. Hype is aimed at us, the people who keep up with this stuff. We nab it day one and run it into the ground. If the hardware can deliver, we go all over the internetz and rave about it. Then everyone else picks it up. That is how the iPhone took off.
No cell carrier ever performed such a feat. The one million iPhones in 72 hours is counting worldwide sales, not just AT&T's
I find it odd that Apple will not release the figures of returned iphones, particularly in the US. ;)
AT&T sold 1 million 2G units in just under 3 months. You're numbers are for Apple sales globally of the 3G unit. If Sprint can sell 1 million of these during their 6 month exclusivity, which I'm hoping includes the holidays (look for a June 25th release date folks), then this could turn Sprint around. I'm pulling for Sprint on this so we can keep the compition alive between these carriers. Then we all win.
@Eric
exactly. I would buy a Pre just to keep them alive even though I'm not with Sprint or have any plans to sign with them anytime soon
You know what will really blow your mind? These shots were taken with a... wait for it... Palm Pre!
Not really, I've no clue, but man! do I need to get my hands on these bad boys (erm... the phones I mean of course) like NOW!
They were taken with a Nokia E71.
Why not? That age group is an increasingly important demographic. Kids are getting cell phones at an early age now.... not only do you want feedback from them on what does/doesn't work on the phone, but you want it to appeal to them to build future brand loyalty.
they probably don't put a dent in any business class applications the Pre has. But if Palm could convince 16 year olds that the Pre was the 'it' phone to have that would be worth its weight in gold.
Minor quibble, but please stop referring to our fair city as "San Fran."
Use SF, and no, don't use "Frisco" either.
Respectfully, no.
San Fran? Could be annoying, but it's not so bad comparatively. Frisco I can see as annoying, but it's still got charm.
SF? Unless everyone in the city wears a green beret, you don't get to use that one, sorry buddy.
The most important detail is, is Rice-a-Roni still your favorite treat?
We can come up with much more derogatory things to call your city. The second word beginning with 'Fa' and the city's reputation would make that VERY easy for us.
The only time I was in San Fran was a 2 hour layover in the airport. Pretty nice airport, I rather liked it....going to go through there again the next time I go international instead of LAX...god that place is awful.
... the second word of our city doesn't start with 'Fa', it starts with 'Fr'
Does that mean you (bible hating hellbound heretic bleeding liberals) citizens are called SFians?
Beau,
Let them call it whatever they want. It just points them out as bleedin' tourists anyway (would have said "effin' tourists", but the possible pun almost made my head asplode).
Also, another minor quibble: it was not "Bring Your Own Wheel". It was "Bring Your Own BIG Wheel", and is made of pure awesome.
@CraigJ
F'n hilarious
@Kamokazi
San Jose is a better airport I am told. I flew in the San Fransico last March and the place was a little run down in some places, like baggage claim.
Uh. Seriously. No. I'm born and raised there and I'm saying Frisco, San Fran, they Yay, the Town whenever i please.
Hah, and they said that the iPhone was for kids.
Who's laughing now?
I've seen 10 year olds with iPhones.
Yeah, my niece has a blast with the iFart app on her mom's phone.
BALLS, man :(
Man I can't wait to see the "FCC Friday" posting this week. Hopefully there will be a green light from the FCC followed by a Sprint release on Sunday.
*Cough cough*Sprint/Palm get on it!*Couch Cough*
excuse you.
I have got to say... the Pre's screen looks a lot bigger than it did in promo shots... I love how it looks in their hands...
For some reason I read your comment like you're a creepy pedophile:
"You like how it looks in their hands? Or do you like the way their hand looks ;)"
Well then I can only imagine your outrage at the comment right after mine...
Me has an errection!!!
We already know from your name.
I guess I am the only one that thinks the one on the left looks 10x bigger than the one on the right even though they are not that far apart? Anyone else see that?
yea i see what ur saying. And come to take a closer look at it, why are their screens only showing home screens instead of what they're recording? Way to pull a fast one, this one's going to the crapgadget collection of "proof".
-BOIOOOOIOOOOOIOOIOOOOIOOOOIOIOOOOONG
ya...i agree with you, the one on the left looks way bigger, and not as good as the one on the right.
i see the camera http://files.posterous.com/bananachunks/N7b1EOeNLe9MPmDjNnEKnpVtjCuJm7GBWee8TGCXJTeh9map2Mqujy5yRpts/200904121732.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=1C9REJR1EMRZ83Q7QRG2&Expires=1239650436&Signature=uHn%2F4Dv7bmqv%2Fv001v2RrBsZ%2BpI%3D
Umm, this is nuts, I bet you this is set up to start a buzz. It obviously is working. I think I want one, pretty Pre's.
