Systemax snaps up Circuit City's brand and domain name
Just like it did in January of last year, Systemax is snapping up leftovers from a now-defunct national consumer electronics retailer. As part of the post-bankruptcy proceedings, Circuit City Stores Incorporated recently closed a deal that'll net it $6.5 million. The price for the coinage? Systemax taking control of its trademarks and internet domain names. Circuit City stated in the filing that the sale of its intellectual property and internet assets would bring "significant recovery for the sellers' estates and creditors," and we're also told that Circuit City would be able to snag an unspecified share of sales from the brand name. Look out, Best Buy -- we hear Systemax has eyes for you, too.

I actually think that it's not that bad. Now I will be able to get some computer hardware at a decent price and not have to wait a few days.
Time for rebirth. They should gut the stores, drop CompUSA and Circuit City names as no one trust them for good reason. Delete the CompUSA site. Rename the stores TigerDirect and become the international company they should be. The larger market and physical stores could give them much better market pentration and thus allow them to lower prices. Plus they could offer services like "buy online, pick up at store next day". This is a great opportunity for TigerDirect (those darn Canadians) to become something awesome.
Newegg.com for most everything I buy computer related, but TigerDirect.com has the best sales and barebones kits.
Its funny because there is an empty Circuit City and CompUSA (in the same parking lot) a block away from my work. I would love to see them do a retail store that was more computer centric like CompUSA was or like a MicroCenter. This economy totally wreaked havoc on electronics retailers. I live in the land of the "Big Blue Box" and I would love to see some one actually challenge them. Over priced PC components, underpaid employees, and so on.
thak you for calling GOING OUT OF BUSINESS, ZOHAN speaking........
